my main takeaway from last night is that if tim connelly is trading a 2031 unprotected first for rob dillingham, he really is not planning on being around when the bill on all these trades comes due

my favorite pick was topic to OKC, it’s the exact skill set (driving the ball) that they need. guess it will be a while til we actually see that come to fruition but nonetheless

memphis taking edey is the most interesting development to me, that just feels like a big overhaul of that team again a year after already doing it. i don’t think edey can jump? i don’t see how his skill set matches with ja’s

as a result we have to induct jarren jackson jr into the Hall of Karl Anthony Towns … a 5 who can’t play 5 so now we gotta go find someone to play your position for you

the ryan dunn pick by phoenix is also somewhat interesting to me -- they need the ability to play small w/o putting KD at the 5 and he can give them that while also being able to guard probably up to the 1. for what they probably need to do (find a killer small line up) he may really work, he seems like the best switch defender in the draft. it will all obviously fall apart if he is a sub 30% shooter but he will at least be shooting tons of wide open ones, you have to figure. the upside of herb jones but even better is there -- if he went to a bad team in the top of the second round i would've been pessimistic, but he'll have the one crucial thing (tons of floor spacing) that players like this don't get on shitty teams.

i could be wrong but it seems like sam hauser will eventually be a cap casualty in boston & scheierman from what i've read seems like a pretty close approximation to that skillset but w/ possibly more upside bcuz of the ball handling/scoring capability. just feels like a really good developmental pick for them given his skillset and their roster

i'm pretty shocked filipowski fell out of the first round. i saw hollinger mention a medical issue w/ his hip, he also has a negative wingspan. that said i thought he looked like a really solid offensive bench big in the olynyk role at duke. feel like every team needs that player these days if even just for certain match ups

people really seem to like the wolves getting dillingham... all the stuff i've read about him has compared him to guys like lou williams, malik monk etc. he is super tiny, less than 175 pounds. i just think the history of guards of that type holding up in the playoffs is really checkered, and the wolves really need players who can clear that bar. i'm sure the thought is that their defense can support one player of that caliber -- i question that thesis

the deandre ayton aspect of it all is funny, but the blazers actually resemble a real roster now w/ clingan, deni, grant in the frountcourt to go w/ their young guards. they're still a very long way from being competitive in the west, but at least their roster actually kinda fits together now. and if clingan really is a kessler level rim protector, then you can see the bones of a team w/ good spacing and shooting at all 4 positions around a defensive anchor at center. we know that you can't completely forfeit perimeter defense so they'd still have to do more stuff down the road but that's at least a logical path forward identity wise to start

Supposedly Jared McCain plays defense but Sixers drafting another 6'2" guard is really relying on Nick Nurse to cover up a lot with scheme. I would say he probably won't play much, but they don't have anyone else.

the heat/sixers ware/mccain thing gives me really bad precious/maxey flashbacks. another small guard to go with maxey doesn’t make tons of sense but feel like daryl is always gonna take the talent

Sixers need 3 and D in the worst way. Former sounds great, we will see about the latter.

There are still so many dominos to fall - hearing they are bringing back Batum, Lowery, and Oubre - even if they get a borderline star in trade/FA that feels so thin now compared to BOS/NY. I think they will be lucky to be in the second tier with IND/CLE barring Embiid's first truly healthy season.

ware on talent athletic shot blocking 7 footer who can hit threes wouldve gone higher but there are motor/feel concerns, maybe miami can train him up

in general a shocking number of 6’2 guards got picked considering that’s almost a mendoza line for are you unplayable in the postseason

my issue with the ware pick is just that it takes real projection to the point of him looking/playing like a unicorn esque porzingis type player in order for him, as a 7 footer, to play meaningful minutes next to bam. any big they take has to be scrutinized thru that lens. a lot of those same exact kinda minutes need to go to jovic. i think he’s ultimately a back up 5 on this team for the next 2-3 seasons and tho they have badly needed a stable back up 5 for years now it feels rich if that’s all this ends up being. but i trust they’ll put him in a position to succeed, they do well with stretch bigs
