taking less was offset by the chance to win a fifth championship with the Mavs as well as the difference in state taxes.
players really hate state taxes lol

a completed concept
The sign-and-trade framework that will ultimately send Klay Thompson to Dallas has a completed concept that would send Josh Green to Charlotte, sources said, but what goes back to the Warriors has not yet been finalized. Three years, $50 million was most Mavericks could offer.— Jake Fischer (@JakeLFischer) July 1, 2024

I'm guessing it's Davis Bertans and a second rounder lol

if the warriors dont get a first out of this whats even the point of doing it
Warriors and Mavericks still working through details of sign-and-trade, which includes Hornets sending the Mavericks two second-round picks for Josh Green, sources tell ESPN. One of those picks could end up in Golden State. Thompson will land in Dallas on the three-year deal.— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) July 1, 2024

yeah, no sense in helping a rival like this if they are really trying to win something this year

LeBron is supposedly going to take less money so the Lakers can get a midlevel free agent but who's going to be left?
― Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 1 July 2024 19:34 (four months ago) link
apparently hes not going to do that anymore since there arent any FAs good enough to merit that
― polyamerie "it's more than this 1 thing" (m bison), Monday, 1 July 2024 19:38 (four months ago) link
lol
that was the only way the bronny thing made sense, if you were essentially burning a low draft pick in exchange for cap flexibility

demar i guess
Add DeMar DeRozan to the list of players whom LeBron James wants the Los Angeles Lakers to target in free agency.
ESPN's Brian Windhorst reported DeRozan is also among the players whom James would take a pay cut to play with.
"I think there's more than three," Windhorst said on the Hoop Collective podcast. "I think DeMar DeRozan is on that list as well. And there may be another one or so."
Dave McMenamin of ESPN previously reported James would take a pay cut if it meant the Lakers could land James Harden, Klay Thompson or Jonas Valančiūnas. Harden (Los Angeles Clippers) and Valančiūnas (Washington Wizards) have already agreed to sign elsewhere, while Thompson could command more than the $12.9 million non-taxpayer mid-level exception.

dont understand why he says the warriors need this deal to happen, unless dallas makes it worth their while by sending value back seems like itd be better for them to let klay walk and clear his salary
― lag∞n, Monday, 1 July 2024 20:07 (four months ago) link
i guess theyre still going to be able to clear his salary, getting this deal done just assures that they get some picks as compensation, especially if they are going hord in the paint for lauri
― polyamerie "it's more than this 1 thing" (m bison), Monday, 1 July 2024 20:09 (four months ago) link
they have to take salary back if they trade him, regardless they dont need to get the deal done
― lag∞n, Monday, 1 July 2024 20:14 (four months ago) link
maybe thats where charlotte comes in they just take the salary into their cap space
― lag∞n, Monday, 1 July 2024 20:19 (four months ago) link
warriors really want to back up the truck for lauri idk
― lag∞n, Monday, 1 July 2024 20:21 (four months ago) link
on the one hand they will be better with lauri (and melton!) over klay, on the other hand how good is that and how barren will they be after dealing with ainge

farewell poku
This is up in the air pending structure, but I've got the Charlotte Hornets likely creating about $19M in cap space to take in Josh Green and Reggie Jackson. This would involve waiving Aleksej Pokusevski, while keeping Miles Bridges' cap hold.<$1M in cap space after trades.— Keith Smith (@KeithSmithNBA) July 1, 2024

PG to philly is the perfect sixers era morey move in that people can talk about how he flipped this asset for that asset and then got this other asset meanwhile the pot at the end of the rainbow is a 34 year old with a checkered playoff history and nobody seems convinced that they're even that much closer to a title, relatively speaking
― slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 2 July 2024 17:12 (four months ago) link
knicks roster still feels pretty incomplete to me w/ hartenstein leaving. they're gonna need to find a starting center by the trade deadline imo, i think this past year showed that even when robinson is healthy you want another borderline starter behind him. right now i think they could fall into the t wolves trap of building a team specifically to win one match up but then running into a different match up that they can't counter
― slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 2 July 2024 17:17 (four months ago) link
that might be true, but I don’t think the east is deep enough for it to matter like it may have for the wolves
― brony james (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 2 July 2024 17:43 (four months ago) link
knicks can always play small re matchups both randle and og are pretty hefty dudes, robinsons health is obvs a concern but carrying two starting quality centers isnt really a thing in todays nba, regardless the knicks dont have the resources to do it, robinson and sims seems fine + they can pick up a cheap third/second string guy

philly has the same high-risk high-reward issues they’ve always had, as you correctly pointed out earlier. I don’t think it’s worth fretting about matchups with a team as unproven and liable to fall apart as they are.
milwaukee…yeah I just don’t see it. I think their run as serious contenders is probably over. they’re so old and rickety.
cleveland and orlando are the teams that normally you’d think are next up, but I think the talent gulf between the celtics/knicks/healthy sixers is so wide that I doubt it’ll matter.
that said the knicks obviously are going to look to shore up their big rotation in some way between now and the buyout deadline next year. I just don’t see how you can look at the trajectory of this team and not feel encouraged. then again, maybe they just get steamrolled by the celtics, no shame in that
― brony james (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 2 July 2024 18:49 (four months ago) link
thing id be worried about were i the knicks is not having an legit second option/enough on ball juice, theyve got brunson who is great obvs but after that its kinda dicey, feel like the best version of this team is elite defense and really good team offense/ball movement, think even then theyd have to get lucky to beat the celtics
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 2 July 2024 19:06 (four months ago) link
knicks reportedly looking into walker kessler, which means mitch rob would likely be on the way out? (also deuce mcbride, probably)
― the defenestration of prog (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 2 July 2024 19:11 (four months ago) link
i don't think philly or milwaukee need to be contenders to present issues for the knicks. very possible they see one of those teams in round 1. i'm not saying that it's some no doubt fatal flaw for the knics but in a 7 game series giannis, lopez, and portis would have some advantages over the knicks current bigs
― slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 2 July 2024 19:26 (four months ago) link
do the knicks have anything left to trade for kessler
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 2 July 2024 19:32 (four months ago) link
my overall point is just that if we are entering a parity driven era where the playoffs are decided as much by match ups as they are by pure talent than gearing yourself up to beat one certain type of team potentially leaves you vulnerable to being deficient in a different, unforeseen match up. we just saw this play out very visibly
