they call me melo gelo (Spottie), Wednesday, 7 March 2018 21:25 (seven years ago)

Think Harden has this wrapped but if Brow stays hot like this and they wrap like the 3rd seed he could make a case. Curry has a long shot if he turns it up just a hair more and they re-take the one seed, think harden would have to regress a bit and/or get injured tho too. Dont think any of the others have a real chance at this point and curry/brow is more of a long shot.

MVP - JH
DPOY - this one is hard, embiid i guess? draymond could take it again if he wants it
ROY - mitchell (if they make the playoffs)
6MOY - lou
MIP - no idea
COY - casey

they call me melo gelo (Spottie), Wednesday, 7 March 2018 21:30 (seven years ago)

oladipo's gonna get MIP

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 7 March 2018 21:39 (seven years ago)

oh yeah forgot about him

they call me melo gelo (Spottie), Wednesday, 7 March 2018 21:46 (seven years ago)

MVP - harden, though I think davis and even curry could make a run at it
DPOY - no real opinion on this one, almost want to give it to roberson
RPY - only two acceptable choices here, I favor simmons
6MOY - lou will made it
MIP - oladipo
COY - casey will win, but I don't have a strong opinion

k3vin k., Wednesday, 7 March 2018 22:01 (seven years ago)

roberson would probably have won it but seeing how bad they are w out him has upped his stock a ton. im not even sure who else is in the hunt?

gobert missed too much time prob.
Jrue holiday has been on a tear but idk
Pg13? idk theyve been so bad
giannis?
brow?
marcus smart or horford?
durant had some traction to start the year but he's been on cruise control in 4th gear for a while now.

they call me melo gelo (Spottie), Wednesday, 7 March 2018 22:21 (seven years ago)

i stan for roberson but i think he will miss too many games this year to get the award.

micah, Thursday, 8 March 2018 03:19 (seven years ago)

gobert should be on the dpoy list imo. dray is probs the frontrunner atm tho he has regresed across the board and gsw defence has been inconsistent

micah, Thursday, 8 March 2018 03:20 (seven years ago)

i def have heard a lot of buzz around embiid for dpoy, seems early but whatcha gonna do he's a dang beast

MVP - harden
DPOY - gobert? horford?
ROY - mitchell
6MOY - lou
MIP - dipo
COY - brother brad

lag∞n, Thursday, 15 March 2018 00:16 (seven years ago)

i pretty much agree with the above but have no idea how DPOY shakes out and figure d'antoni has a shot at COY

Clay, Thursday, 15 March 2018 00:47 (seven years ago)

coy - erik spoelstra

MVP - harden will take it tho i find his flopping ahorrent and would happily vote elsewhere

DPOY - gobert, i think 50 games is enough
ROY - mitchell (i hope)
6MOY - lou
MIP - dipo
COY - casey, though he will be exposed again in the playoffs

micah, Thursday, 15 March 2018 02:08 (seven years ago)

Kinda hearing some mcmillan talk for coy, not like he should be #1 but may be worth a few top 3 votes. He’s def surprised me.

they call me melo gelo (Spottie), Thursday, 15 March 2018 02:18 (seven years ago)

yeah he changed his style along with the times, impressive for sure

lag∞n, Thursday, 15 March 2018 02:22 (seven years ago)

i think the pacers team talent is being used about as well as you could hope for yeah

micah, Thursday, 15 March 2018 02:56 (seven years ago)

I voted Harden MVP. He's been a bridesmaid several times now and set himself up to win this time. Brow ought to pick up a few votes from Harden haters. LeBron will get his votes from his devotees, but... (shrug) nah.

MVP - LaMarcus Aldridge and Kawhi Leonard (tie 1st)
DPOY - Kyle Anderson
6th - Manu Ginobili
COY - Gregg Popovich
MIP - Dejounte Murray
ROY - Derrick White

spursfan69, Friday, 16 March 2018 00:16 (seven years ago)

kyle anderson is a steals maniac, good shot blocker too. wonder what kind of defensive numbers he would put up if he played starter minutes.

they call me melo gelo (Spottie), Friday, 16 March 2018 00:18 (seven years ago)

kyle has started 54 of the 60 games he's played fyi

a guy who should get 6MOY votes but might not: nick vanvleet

was thinking today about how guys like macmillan and scotty brooks don't get the COY buzz mainly because of their bad reputations lol

k3vin k., Friday, 16 March 2018 02:57 (seven years ago)

lol fred* vanvleet

van vleet should be in the 6man running altho i don't think he has the raw stats for it. he plays in crunch time for the 3rd best team in the league and that should count.

lag∞n, Saturday, 7 April 2018 02:07 (seven years ago)

seeing lots of parallels between the michell ROY push and derrick rose's MVP tbh

k3vin k., Monday, 9 April 2018 19:29 (seven years ago)

there's this guy who's clearly the superior player on both offense and defense, but let's vote for the inefficient high volume scorer on a dominant defensive team

k3vin k., Monday, 9 April 2018 19:30 (seven years ago)

wuut mitchell has been absolutely amazing the leading scorer on a team thats won like 30 of 34 or something its crazy, wldnt be surprised if simmons wins tho as philly has gone on a run of their own w embiid out and he obvs has the higher ceiling, theyve both had in some ways unpresidented seasons, in most years what tatums done wld be enough to win it and no ones even talking abt him, fwiw its morally and logically correct to dock simmons points for red shirting

lag∞n, Monday, 9 April 2018 19:36 (seven years ago)

simmons has prob caught up to how he wld be playing if he played last year at this point

lag∞n, Monday, 9 April 2018 19:52 (seven years ago)

it’s true mitchell has been the leading scorer on a really good team whose biggest strength is their defense, this was essentially the argument for d rose iirc — but simmons has just clearly been better. I’m not a huge fan of the “imagine if these two players switched teams” voting tactic because so much of production is situation dependent, but I mean if these two switched teams I think it’s pretty clear that the sixers would suffer more

pretty much all the stats suggest mitchell is a...nice 21 year old player while simmons is a legit star btw

k3vin k., Monday, 9 April 2018 19:56 (seven years ago)

i'd prob vote simmons but that's an undersell of mitchell. if he gets to the line a bit more and gets a little more accurate from 3 he's going to be as good at scoring as any guard in the nba outside the top 4 or so.

call all destroyer, Monday, 9 April 2018 19:59 (seven years ago)

in general and in conjunction with the point I was making about jokic in the reg season thread earlier we are just not very great at using the eye test to weight different basketball skills in assessing a players overall value, players who get buckets are always going to be overvalued and people who do little things and play defense are always going to be relatively undervalued. I think the eye test happens to support simmons anyway and the stats suggest it's not close but things like he's the leading scorer on a good team that sound so intuitively right are hard to people to shake loose

k3vin k., Monday, 9 April 2018 20:03 (seven years ago)

mitchell def has the potential to be a star, tho tbh simmons is already there and his ceiling seems to be MVP candidate and in the not too distant future, anyway the discussion is about this year and simmons is the better player

k3vin k., Monday, 9 April 2018 20:04 (seven years ago)

creating shots is the single most valuable nba skill u need to put those old musty nerd opinions in storage

lag∞n, Monday, 9 April 2018 20:07 (seven years ago)

I agree it's important but being better at it does not mean the player is necessarily better, hence my point about weighting and how we are bad at it

k3vin k., Monday, 9 April 2018 20:10 (seven years ago)

hitting home runs is the best thing a baseball player can do but it does not necessarily mean that the guy who hits the most home runs is the best player or even the best hitter, makes u think

k3vin k., Monday, 9 April 2018 20:12 (seven years ago)

none of this is to say mitchell hasn't had a sick year, he has, but simmons is way better and we should give the award to the better dude imo

k3vin k., Monday, 9 April 2018 20:16 (seven years ago)

i agree that hes been better and will prob win but i think mitchell has been great and also i think simmons shd be disqualified for redshirting

they call me melo gelo (Spottie), Wednesday, 11 April 2018 18:29 (seven years ago)

My defense of a lebron vote would be solely that he is still great and it would be a make up award for some previous years

I wouldn’t actually vote for him though with harden existing this year

gis for westbrook shark jump (agent hibachi), Wednesday, 11 April 2018 18:31 (seven years ago)

Having to completely remake lebrons custom built team around him midstream is also a serious strike against any real mvp candidacy too as lowe goes into extensively
