The hand switching was nice. Looked to me like two-and-a-half steps after the ball was clutched and immobile, but that's just me.

travels are def called a lot loser now but whats interesting is from a formal perspective theyre not actually being called differently (tho the rules have actually been changed somewhat over the years) its all to do with players stretching the definitions by doing stuff like picking the ball up super early in the gather step or taking huge steps and changing direction ie the euro step, like you can go back to basketballs early days and find footage of guys taking two and half steps going into a layup no problem but theyre naturally looking steps and theyre picking the ball up at the end of the gather

its just a different rule that hinges on whether the player has come to a stop and established their pivot foot

Idk if it was always different between NBA and amateur ranks, but I remember my youth coach showing us all the rulebook section which specified we get 1.5 steps. Def frustrates me to play with a generation who grew up getting 2.5 steps, plus gathers and hop steps and God knows what else.

idk about youth rules but my understanding is at the pro level the half step wasnt mentioned in the rules it was a colloquialism the rules just said two full steps after picking up the ball and then a while ago they put a reference in there to the gather step where it had only been replied before

one and a half steps doesnt make any sense to me just rhythmically, that would be like an off foot layup or something

Felt like most people thought the Wolves were fucking up by selecting Ant over LaMelo

feel like there was no consensus number one, what people generally did get wrong was thinking that draft was at the top, dubs had the #2 pick up for sale and no one wanted it, turned out to be very strong at the top ant and melo both easily have #1 pick talent

yeah i think there were as many people who thought wiseman should go no 1. there was def lots of skepticism of ant as the no 1 pick bcuz of the rawness of his game and the fact that he had put up a non-dominant season for a bad college team

the aspect of those three players that was hardest for anyone on the outside to know at the time but which imo has contributed the most to their relative places in the league are their personalities. ant just has "it" in all the ways that "it" exists; lamelo meanwhile does not really seem mature enough to be the leader of a franchise, and wiseman was put into a bad situation but didn't have the kinda personality that would have helped him stay afloat in an intense veteran heavy environment

i don't think i'm a believer in lamelo anymore. watched him play a full game vs the heat this year and he got his guys so many open shots but also did so much dumb shit: horrible deep and/or step back threes after making a few in the first quarter, multiple frustration fouls in the backcourt etc. and i think it trickles down to the rest of the team -- miles bridges takes tons of awful shots early in the shot clock for them but how is anybody going to tell him not to do that when the guy the entire franchise revolves around is lamelo ball. oh and last year before he got hurt i went to see hornets-nets and lamelo got benched for most of the second half and all of crunch time for playing like a huge jackass basically. i'm really skeptical that this will ever change as long as he's in charlotte

well there was that whole thing about how ant really wanted to be a football player. maybe the wolves had the same concerns as everyone and just picked him bcuz he was the best athlete of the three but maybe they understood that he was a driven athlete who was going to excel at his chosen sport even if he had other interests
