luke kornet 3 fouls, one of them flagrant, in his first 4

Thunder 1st team ever to open the season with b2b 2OT games

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Friday, 24 October 2025 03:01 (two months ago)

I was wondering how often any teams has played b2b multiple OT games...Spurs somehow played two triple OT games in a row in Dec 2014, which was the only time that happened since the Baltimore Bullets of 1951

symsymsym, Friday, 24 October 2025 03:51 (two months ago)

aaron gordon 7/7 from three in the first half, tying the all time record for most 3s in the first half without a miss

jokic 33-15-16-3

Tonight was Nikola Jokic’s 78th career game leading BOTH teams in points, rebounds and assists.

That’s the most such games by any player since the 1976 NBA-ABA merger, 10 more than the next closest player (LeBron James - 68).

crazy

Timberwolves Defensive ratings stats on/off for Gobert are crazy, either second best in the league or so far beyond the worst you need the hubble telescope to see it

With Gobert (247 min): 118.1 ORTG, 109.4 DRTG, 8.7 net rating
Without Gobert (107 mins): 120.1 ORTG, 144.2 DRTG, -24.2 net rating

comrade jhøsh (k3vin k.), Friday, 7 November 2025 19:12 (two months ago)

it's been interesting, watching Rudy Gobert 100x more than I ever would have in a lifetime. He's a singularly weird and great and terrible and frustrating player. And almost everything he really does well are the types of things that are not suited to be appreciated in the social media highlights era, and everything he's terrible at sticks out like a sore thumb.

like a combination of a defensive savant and a guy that seems like he's seeing a basketball for the first time in his life.

i think ive said this before but best seats i ever had at a game was like 8th row and suns were playing jazz. seeing gobert at like eye level was so shocking. on tv he looks like a normal skinny tall nba player but he would barely be bending over and his hands we're like at his shins, shoulders way more broad than it seems, then he'd put his arms out wide and i have no idea how anyone completes a pass or gets a shot off in his vicinity. ive seen shaq with pretty good seats, and it was even more alien than that somehow. but i do remember how clunky he was on offense, just no feel or touch. i still think the most unlikely shot in nba history is that game 7 shot clock running down fadeaway to help put the nuggets away a couple years back.

Spottie, Friday, 7 November 2025 21:07 (two months ago)

zach lowe, nate duncan et al have been noting that it looks like he’s slowing down in terms of being able to move his feet and contest shots at the rim

slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Friday, 7 November 2025 21:10 (two months ago)

yeah I mean he's at the age where he's not going to get better

he also had that one bizarre outburst against the Lakers in the playoffs last year where he scored 27 points and looked incredible on offense for one day

even tho he was a role player for the suns i feel like there has to be some adjustment involved when moving from "you're one of the top scorers on a horrible team and you can do whatever you want out there and literally nobody cares" to coming into a system like denver's w/ an established hierarchy and shots for role players coming in distinct ways, having actual responsibility, having to play serious basketball etc

I've always wondered how it is that more guys like curry or nash or korver didn't just randomly get hot one year and shoot >>95% from the line, just one of those weird invisible barriers that seems like it's on the border of human possibility in a game setting. the record is 98% from jose calderon who went 151/154 in 2009, but no other qualifier has broken 96%

lag∞n, Friday, 2 January 2026 18:55 (five days ago)

the lakers without reaves have to have one of the worst rosters in the NBA, and in particular it's hideously constructed around luka specifically. we know from dallas that luka is good at playing with 3 point shooters, rim runners, and secondary ball handlers. well, the lakers last night played the following guys: lebron, jake laravia, smart, ayton (starters) + vanderbilt, jaxson hayes, and nick smith jr. the best shooter is laravia? the best rim runner is hayes? the best secondary ball handler is old lebron? it's horrific and a massive downgrade from dallas

slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Friday, 2 January 2026 19:07 (five days ago)

too bad reaves cant defend at all because otherwise hes a great fit with luka

lag∞n, Friday, 2 January 2026 19:09 (five days ago)

prob a better fit than kyrie or brunson in the #2 spot because hes better off ball, tho prob not actually better better since theyre better players, but tbf he is having an insane season currently

lag∞n, Friday, 2 January 2026 19:15 (five days ago)

kyrie and brunson are bad defenders too and they worked but its still just not ideal to have two bad defenders in the mix

lag∞n, Friday, 2 January 2026 19:17 (five days ago)

with the right mix of supporting players it can at least get you to the finals, tho i'm not sure i'd say reaves is better than kyrie. the thing w/ the lakers is that the new ownership group *should* make them a lot better but for the foreseeable future they're stuck in this cockamamie scheme where jeanie buss is still running the team

slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Friday, 2 January 2026 19:21 (five days ago)

meant to post the other day that the highlights of kawhi scoring 55 in essentially three quarters are amazing. he scores like four points at the rim, otherwise it's pure midrange hooping, breaking dudes down and then pulling up with metronomic jumper form, and also shooting three pointers like steph. he shot 12-16 on twos in this game while making, by my count, two shots at the rim the entire night while going 16-17 from the line, he was legitimately treating an NBA game like pop a shot. at one point the clippers' announcer says that kawhi "is one with the basketball gods tonight" and it would be hard to argue otherwise.

gonna assume this is just some nonsense and the new owner will do as he pleases but who knows

lag∞n, Friday, 2 January 2026 19:36 (five days ago)

yea that tends to be what happens cf the cuban situation

comrade jhøsh (k3vin k.), Friday, 2 January 2026 19:37 (five days ago)

kawhi gotta have the most workmanlike 55 in the history of the league there

lag∞n, Friday, 2 January 2026 19:41 (five days ago)

no, it's not the same. sam amick reported that jeanie is written into the sale agreement as governor of the team for the next five years. now, whether they um, empower her to change things... i guess we'll see but the cuban thing was not written into the sale agreement of the team and was not real and thus he got pushed out instantaneously. they have talked about this on the hoop collective podcast

Per a team source, Buss’ agreement with Walter and the NBA stipulates that she’ll remain the team’s governor for at least the next five seasons.

slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Friday, 2 January 2026 19:44 (five days ago)

new guy can just appoint someone super governor

lag∞n, Friday, 2 January 2026 19:46 (five days ago)

in all seriousness if hes signing the checks he untimely he can do as he pleases as to whether he wants to have a big fight over it or if she wants to have a big fight over it or what there agreement really is who knows

lag∞n, Friday, 2 January 2026 19:50 (five days ago)

totally speculation but letting her be the figurehead go to the league meetings and so forth while he incrementally builds basketball operations out in his vision would make a lot of sense as far as doing a gradual handover, one thing that could tell us which was the wind is blowing is pelinkas status does he stay is someone installed over him etc

lag∞n, Friday, 2 January 2026 19:56 (five days ago)

my point is just that there is some sort of awkward/messy/abnormal transfer of power of the organization happening that is going to coincide with, at the very least, one crucial offseason when it comes to building out the roster around luka, and could last as long as the rest of his contract there, which is effectively this season and the two after that. or, we take the lakers at their word, and this same front office is going to be running the team for the rest of luka's prime

slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Friday, 2 January 2026 19:58 (five days ago)

yeah true

lag∞n, Friday, 2 January 2026 19:59 (five days ago)

maybe they can just get pelinka to scam them some more players, he should be kept on for scamming purposes

lag∞n, Friday, 2 January 2026 20:01 (five days ago)

i agree w/ you about pelinka. but he signed a contract extension in april, so unless this season just completely collapses, like not making the play in or something, i'd have to believe that it's still gonna be this jeanie/pelinka group running things this offseason

slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Friday, 2 January 2026 20:01 (five days ago)

yeah prob unless i guess there is some understanding otherwise with the new guy, must say that jeanie firing her brothers on day one was incredible stuff, the league will miss the buss family when theyre gone last of a dying breed

lag∞n, Friday, 2 January 2026 20:03 (five days ago)

cuban made himself the face of the mavs in a way that was unusual, but he only owned the team for like 20 years. the buss family and the lakers are a much different thing. i could definitely envision a scenario where jeanie was like "we will only sell the team if i can run it for five more years" and mark walter decided that the lakers were such a valuable property that he would go along w/ it even under those terms. i mean, that's the subtext of jeanie's governance being written into the agreement, imo. you're right obviously that we'll see whether he decides to effectively shank her or whatever two years in if the team stinks

slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Friday, 2 January 2026 20:06 (five days ago)

i personally would not pay ten billion dollars for a toy i was not allowed to play with for five years but then again i dont have ten billion dollars i only have nine

lag∞n, Friday, 2 January 2026 20:09 (five days ago)

if im jeanie do i really need to be running day to day operations or do i just want to go to the office sometimes hang around the lakers and fire my brothers

Fun fact: 421 NBA teams have gone 20-11 or better in their first 31 games over the past 30 seasons.

This season’s 20-11 Lakers are the ONLY team on that list to post a negative net rating (-0.6) in those 31 games.

lag∞n, Friday, 2 January 2026 21:01 (five days ago)

you really shouldn't be employed by an nba GM if you've gone into the season with deandre ayton and jaxson hayes as your centers. immediate disqualification

slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Friday, 2 January 2026 21:11 (five days ago)

comrade jhøsh (k3vin k.), Friday, 2 January 2026 21:13 (five days ago)

i do think the unplanned acquisition of luka for AD probably threw a wrench in their roster-building plans but you can't excuse the overall number of bad players in their rotation.
