according to this data, 10% of the nba are the worst. who do u think is out there plotting against most of their teammates?

cam'ron winter (m bison), Wednesday, 21 January 2026 02:53 (three weeks ago)

bonus open parenthesis 4 u punctuation fans

cam'ron winter (m bison), Wednesday, 21 January 2026 02:54 (three weeks ago)

you know there have to be some players who are just interested in staying as rich as possible and that makes them obvious GOP material

theres a few fundamentalist weirdos like j isaac, too

cam'ron winter (m bison), Wednesday, 21 January 2026 05:25 (three weeks ago)

53.7% seems low for MLB ngl

Let’s get the list going here (purely speculative - some have hints in their past or out there on the interwebs, some just have off vibez…)

1. Jonathan Isaac
2. Michael Porter Jr
3. Christian Braun
4. Mitchell Robinson
5. Kevin Durant
6. Kyle Kuzma

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Wednesday, 21 January 2026 12:04 (three weeks ago)

7. Zach Collins

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Wednesday, 21 January 2026 12:06 (three weeks ago)

Feels like we’re at a low point for high profile ones… at various points in the last decade you’d have Meyers Leonard, Spencer Hawes, Andrew Bogut, uuhhhh Royce White

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Wednesday, 21 January 2026 12:07 (three weeks ago)

luke kornet is super catholic, but he gets along well with teammates that leads me to think hes not a judgmental freak about it

cam'ron winter (m bison), Wednesday, 21 January 2026 12:49 (three weeks ago)

kyrie is politically incoherent, hes probably cool w rfk jr tho

cam'ron winter (m bison), Wednesday, 21 January 2026 12:51 (three weeks ago)

gotta think cooper and kon, too. i mean at what point does the question become "which white nba'ers are NOT republican", harder to tell with the players who started their careers after the blm message jerseys

I would have said Chris Paul but he's not an NBA player anymore

frogbs, Wednesday, 21 January 2026 14:35 (three weeks ago)

🙄 I know ilxors are very sophisticated political thinkers, but Chris Paul has done stuff with Michelle Obama

I’m having major emotions looking back at this list, and just feeling perversely nostalgic. can you imagine what it would take right now for a major sports league to engage with politics like this today. Have the wolves done anything to address what’s happening in Minneapolis?

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Wednesday, 21 January 2026 15:29 (three weeks ago)

lol i forgot about 'education reform'

ciderpress, Wednesday, 21 January 2026 15:32 (three weeks ago)

Anyone who had ‘education reform’ is at best highly suspicious to belong on this list. The Morris twins? Makes sense!

I’m a little confused by Garrett Temple tho, since he must be some amazing locker room guy to have hung on in the league for so long (he’s still an nba player!). but he’s on team education refo. A conundrum.

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Wednesday, 21 January 2026 15:40 (three weeks ago)

the Wolves held a moment of silence for Renee Good

Wolves hold moment of silence for woman killed by ICE officer - ESPN https://share.google/hvT7kWrvTJVcnQHpG

they are wearing some kind of "positive message" shirts I'm spacing on what the say, kind of the classic vague message thing

they did tell a fan to remove an ICE OUT shirt but then the fandom was so pissed they issued a public apology

Finch said this
“As we all know, our community has suffered yet another unspeakable tragedy,” Finch said ahead of the game. “We want to just convey our condolences and heartfelt wishes and prayers and thoughts to the families and loved ones and all of those that are greatly affected by what happened.”

so about par for the course for pro sports I guess

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 21 January 2026 16:34 (three weeks ago)

condolences and heartfelt wishes and prayers

sounds straight out of the _mass shooting response handbook_

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Wednesday, 21 January 2026 17:08 (three weeks ago)

hmm par for the course i suppose but that is a pretty lame "republicans buy sneakers too" statement by Finch

sadly compared to some of the other inflection point moments they don't have nearly the same leverage to do anything right now. those BLM jerseys were like a perfect storm because it was peak COVID and the players had a unique say in whether they would play and under what conditions. that said, i had sort of forgotten about this:

On Aug. 26, the Milwaukee Bucks made the biggest statement by opting not to play in a playoff game against the Orlando Magic in protest of the shooting of Jacob Blake in Wisconsin. The rest of the NBA teams still participating followed suit – as did teams and players in other sports – and no NBA games were played for three days. After a tense meeting involving players and coaches, the majority vote was to resume play with a renewed focus on voting and pushing NBA governors to use arenas as polling sites for the Nov. 3 presidential election.

very difficult to now how you would translate that to the current moment though, in large part bc there is 0 chance anyone at ICE or in Washington would even listen or compromise. you might find some hills worth dying on, but just know you're gonna die on them

[i'm aware this is all my own fanfic... just feeling mighty depressed about our failed country atm]

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Wednesday, 21 January 2026 22:20 (three weeks ago)

I guess I meant par for the course for pro sports as mediocre at best

also just living in Minneapolis right now the Timberwolves response to this is like 10,000 on my list of things to worry about

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 21 January 2026 22:28 (three weeks ago)

tryin to remember when exactly it was but one of the Bucks players got roughed up by a cop in a Walgreens parking lot who obviously didn't know who he was

frogbs, Wednesday, 21 January 2026 22:29 (three weeks ago)

yeah i totally get it ums, that makes sense.

one of the great puns of the 21st century. if levert never contributes to a championship team he can take solace in the knowledge his name inspired that pun

great graph, my takeaway is that people should watch women's sports instead of men's sports

Kate (rushomancy), Monday, 26 January 2026 16:45 (two weeks ago)

also i wonder if there are stats for MLS players

Kate (rushomancy), Monday, 26 January 2026 16:45 (two weeks ago)

i suspect mls is p conservative, at least the us-based players. not quite mlb levels, but def more than the nfl.

there is a long-standing rumor (which, tbf, might hold as much weight as JD Vance couch-fucking, i.e. a joke), but people keep suggesting Matt Miazga was at Jan 6th

Bertolt Blecch (Neanderthal), Monday, 26 January 2026 17:17 (two weeks ago)

i believe that if he was not there physically, he was probably there spiritually which is a crime in the biso administration

*bison, goddamnit

cam'ron winter (m bison), Monday, 26 January 2026 18:02 (two weeks ago)

I know that actually expecting 0% GOPs in the WNBA is far-fetched, but I'm still a little surprised that there's any red in that chart.

Major Kirascuro (Leee), Monday, 26 January 2026 19:34 (two weeks ago)

a thing about pro athletes is they're young, you might be a 5-star recruit but if you grew up in a MAGA home and then went to a big fratty red state school where practicing for your sport is basically your whole life, you might not have had much opportunity to develop any individual political beliefs. not trying to make excuses for anyone, but i can see where even a wnba-er with that background is gonna identify with what they grew up with. also many register to vote when they turn 18, still at home under parents' roof, it must be a seriously transgressive act not to register as an R for some

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Monday, 26 January 2026 19:55 (two weeks ago)

i dont really care if a athlete is maga, i mean i could see getting kind of riled up about it if they made some dickhead post or whatever but if they keep to themselves and keep the dunks coming who really gives a shit theyre just some guys who happen to be famous because theyre tall

lag∞n, Monday, 26 January 2026 20:02 (two weeks ago)

im down w that, i think the question is what environment are they most likely to shut up and dribble and i'd say it's when most of you co-workers would give you shit for saying something

cam'ron winter (m bison), Monday, 26 January 2026 20:06 (two weeks ago)

i wonder if the nba is at that point remember years ago there was a story of some clippers going to spencer hawes house and he had obama face toilet paper and they were just like ok wow but i dont think they were really mad at him generally it seem like with sports teams theres an agreement to leave that stuff at the door, but things are more serious now so idk

lag∞n, Monday, 26 January 2026 20:10 (two weeks ago)

which isnt to say im not interested in investigating which ones they are, kon babylon bee instagram tip was top notch stuff

lag∞n, Monday, 26 January 2026 20:11 (two weeks ago)

I randomly saw an instagram reel about which nba players were republicans like a day before this thread was created and they pointed out that kon had some dubious follows. Figured I'd give it a once over to see if anything caught my eye. If these fellas are to be believed he used to follow Candace Owens but I didn't see anyone on that level in there. Mostly just barstool people, Rogan, Theo, etc.

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Monday, 26 January 2026 21:06 (two weeks ago)
