How about that houston. my faith was never shaken that yao and mcgrady could put together something special, i'm glad we'll get the chance to see. made mincemeat out of the hornets tonite. 10 game winning streak, 10 game road winning streak.

how will you feel when your rockets go up against your lakers?
― Dimension 5ive, Saturday, 23 February 2008 13:52 (seventeen years ago)
youll notice it was "that houston" and "my lakers"
big question here is why isnt yao having a much better season? he looked all set to have a career year and crush all in path? he could tho catch fire at any time.
west playoffs: so crazy this year OMG !
― jhøshea, Saturday, 23 February 2008 14:01 (seventeen years ago)
I always feel like the Rockets could get scary good really fast, but are pretty much always held back by injuries to Yao and McGrady. Especially with McGrady's back and various nagging injuries, he's usually playing below 100 percent and he often tries to come back too soon and ends up playing hurt.
Maybe he's just permanently lost a gear that he used to have, but I keep thinking about 02-03 in Orlando when he was just completely unguardable and knew it.

big q: can t-mac stay healthy? i mean if he misses like 6 games and they go 1-5 they're looking at no playoffs or facing the suns in the first round, no? just saying
i like these dudes a lot though. i still don't think they can make it past the 2nd round but if they got a good matchup-- basically if they avoided the warriors or the suns-- i think they could be sneaky. i wouldn't sleep on a healthy tmac-yao-battier combo

so true. i remember i time when it was actually a question whether you'd want kobe or tmac on your team
― carne asada, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 19:30 (seventeen years ago)
I remember it spawning that old Ralph Wiley (RIP) column about how he was the Kwisatz Haderach himself.
I'd kind of forgotten that McGrady's big playoff fall was also an important part of the Piston's ascent.

i remember i time when it was actually a question whether you'd want kobe or tmac on your team
i thought this until maybe last year! (injuries notwithstanding). in orlando and the early houston period he made it (offense) look easier than i've ever seen anyone make it look. then his head was out of it last season + injuries to him and yao and yao and him and yao and eh, get well soon some more.
― tremendoid, Thursday, 28 February 2008 04:16 (seventeen years ago)
still love McGrady though. it's hard to root against him. yao too for that matter.
― carne asada, Thursday, 28 February 2008 05:06 (seventeen years ago)
rolling right along minus yao

18 in a row and counting. I thought hiring Adelman was a very smart move back when they announced it. He's a deceptively excellent coach.

"The Rockets have won 20 games straight," Dikembe Mutombo sang to nobody in particular. "All the critics can kiss my black a--."

laker game is an ABC game on sunday!
― carne asada, Thursday, 13 March 2008 16:17 (seventeen years ago)
dikembe swatted two dunk attempts yesterday. i probably won't know who to root for tomorrow until my laker lizard brain kicks in sometime after the half
― tremendoid, Sunday, 16 March 2008 01:51 (seventeen years ago)
good job houston on game 22. I was disappointed (by the lakers defense mostly, sasha wake the fuck up!) but Houston earned it, scrappy d, big shots, swagger. Still, I'm less than sanguine about their playoff chances.
― tremendoid, Sunday, 16 March 2008 22:33 (seventeen years ago)
Everybody is hot on the Lakers, but I think they will fold up in the playoffs if they have to play a team with some ball buster defense like SA.
The think I like about Houston is that they are getting that pressure the ball defense and have players that are comfortable in their roles on a team. So many of these pro teams cannot get people to do just that, so when it happens like in Detroit for the past few years, it is quite striking.

peaking too early?
― carne asada, Monday, 17 March 2008 18:26 (seventeen years ago)
They had to peak to get back into the playoff picture!
― David R., Monday, 17 March 2008 18:38 (seventeen years ago)
the lineup on the floor that blew the game open yesterday:
T-mac Shane Battier Luis Scola Bobby Jackson Rafer Alston
also worth mentioning: points in first half = 59 T-mac points in first half = 0
I love this team...
― ryan, Monday, 17 March 2008 18:49 (seventeen years ago)
yah i watched that game houston is riding some crazy wave just clicking like crazy
― jhøshea, Monday, 17 March 2008 19:05 (seventeen years ago)
crazy
― jhøshea, Monday, 17 March 2008 19:19 (seventeen years ago)
it helps that the laker defense is so adept at making most opposing point guards look like hall of famers.
― carne asada, Monday, 17 March 2008 19:25 (seventeen years ago)
sick run by these guys though. there's no taking away from that.
boston will be on the second game of a road back to back and ray allen might sit out when they play in houston tomorrow - so their chances of stopping the streak might not be sooo good
― jhøshea, Monday, 17 March 2008 19:28 (seventeen years ago)
Celtics used up a ton of energy coming back against the Spurs last night. Ray Allen definitely not playing until at least Dallas. Doc kept Powe and Davis fresh for tonight but had to burn up Cassell when Rondo gimped his ankle. Pierce and Garnett played hard most of the game as well.

More like "... had to burn up Cassell when Rondo took an upright siesta during the first 6 minutes of the game while at the same time tried taking the game to Tony Parker by hoisting ill-advised jumpers."
And don't forget about Tony Allen! Tho I try to!

CELTICS R SERIOUS !!! SPURS & ROCKETS SLAIN BACK2BACK !!!
YAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
― jhøshea, Wednesday, 19 March 2008 12:43 (seventeen years ago)
Yeppers. The Celtics could take the title this year. They're one of about six teams with a legitimate shot. They'll have the advantage of coasting in the first round, too, so they'll be a bit fresher if they reach the Finals.
