the lebrons
kobe
brandon roy
steve nash
dwight howard
amaré
chris paul
deron williams
jose calderon
AI
Rasheed when he's not sitting at the perimeter for 34 minutes.
Dirk when he's on. Dirk when he's off is a self-pitying nightmare.

I guess I mostly like point guards!

I'd like to say Dwyade but the way his game is built to basically draw fouls and not do a whole lot else kinda drives me nuts. And I love ginobili's game by and large by the consta-flops are a big turn-off.

Clay, Thursday, 27 March 2008 00:20 (seventeen years ago)

Active (not seen many games this year so I've only seen a bit of Paul and Howard):

Kobe
McGrady
Ginobli (who I hate actually)
KG
Dirk
Nash
Lebron
Marion (I like a LOT more than Amare)

Ever (started watching in early 80s):

Magic Magic Magic
Bird
Malone
Walton
Akeem
Rodman
Michael
Bulls-era Pippen

Alex in SF, Thursday, 27 March 2008 18:19 (seventeen years ago)

chris paul
deron williams
jr smith
MONTA ELLIS
brandon roy
carlos boozer (left hand finishes)
tj ford (kind of like a nascar thing, he goes super fast, you pray he doesn't die)
sam cassell
kenyon martin

yeah, healthy d-wade (when he's finishing everything and not flopping) used to be great, but that guy might be gone.

hytop, Thursday, 27 March 2008 18:21 (seventeen years ago)

I remember being a kid being really into watching Bill Laimbeer play, big ugly mean white dude with this goofy fucking thing on his face, fucking shit up and getting boards.

flip murray

I called him Michael.

Alex in SF, Friday, 28 March 2008 16:49 (seventeen years ago)

Because we are close like that.

Alex in SF, Friday, 28 March 2008 16:50 (seventeen years ago)

Anyway anyone who sez Jordan isn't one of their favorite players for watching is either a liar or secretly hates basketball.

Alex in SF, Friday, 28 March 2008 16:51 (seventeen years ago)

LeBron is much more fun to watch than Kobe. Kobe is just a bit more graceful than Norman Bates during the shower scene in Psycho. LeBron is more a work of art, somewhat reminiscent of M. Jordan in his prime.

As a Portlander, I loved watching Clyde Drexler, Terry Porter and Jerome Kersey running the break. Bill Walton at his peak was a thing of beauty. Outlet passes!!!

As I said in another thread, I will always have a soft spot for 'Downtown' Freddie Brown. That man had no conscience. His stroke didn't look all that lovely, like for example Jerry West or Rick Barry. All he could do was nail it from 40 feet out and run back down the court grinning while the arena went apeshit.

Aimless, Friday, 28 March 2008 17:50 (seventeen years ago)

lebron and baron are probably my 1-2

J0rdan S., Friday, 28 March 2008 17:51 (seventeen years ago)

von wafer (is this dude still in the league? if so someone give him some minutes)

He's riding the pine for the blazers right now. At the trading deadline taurean green was inexplicably shipped off for this guy. With Roy likely shut down for the rest of the season maybe he'll actually get some burn.

Clay, Friday, 28 March 2008 19:02 (seventeen years ago)

You keep calling Olajuwon "Akeem," so you must be a lot older than I realized.

I'ma rep for a couple white boys, "Thunder" Dan Majerle, and all-time favorite Christopher "Chris" Mullin!!

Leee, Friday, 28 March 2008 21:18 (seventeen years ago)

chris mullen was great to watch

tremendoid, Friday, 28 March 2008 22:58 (seventeen years ago)

now i would love to say that i love to watch lebron because he always does something amazing but but im not sure if its his shitty ill-matched teams fault or his shitty ill-matched teams fault and his fault but wtf all that standing around surveying the defense walking the ball up the court drives me bonkers - someone get this man the ball on the move in the open court off a screen rolling to the hoop something plz fuck

jhøshea, Friday, 28 March 2008 23:28 (seventeen years ago)

im really starting to warm to the charms of rondo - he still makes me cringe way too much - but kid gets major points for originality

jhøshea, Friday, 28 March 2008 23:29 (seventeen years ago)

i agree with you on lebron, that offense is so ugly and tentative no wonder their best option is to have bron blow through the lane like a bull, which is ugly itself most of the time. also re: kobe v. lebron aimless is smoking crack.

u guys dont like the birdman?

birdman is hilarious!

jhøshea, Saturday, 29 March 2008 04:08 (seventeen years ago)

wtf @ von wafer mention?! lol!
dude was like a.i.'s little brother on the nuggs--first off the bench for a chest bump @ tv timeout--but he'd always get the yips in garbage time and clang jumpers.
consistently kills the d-league, though

hytop, Tuesday, 1 April 2008 22:11 (seventeen years ago)

birdman was all around denver the last two years til he just got signed by n.o. great dude, loves to talk about himself to anyone. if you yell 'birdman!' at him, he will turn and do the hand symbol any place any time guaranteed

everything he does has a unique kyrieness to it like hell hold the ball a fraction of a beat longer than normal on a shot and then it just pops out and splashes the bottom of the net

lag∞n, Friday, 10 November 2017 22:12 (eight years ago)

also something abt the way he moves constantly untucks his jersey

lag∞n, Friday, 10 November 2017 22:13 (eight years ago)

the funnest team in the league.

I don't know. I guess I don't like blowouts that much? I root for them but I don't love watching them pick apart lottery teams.

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Friday, 10 November 2017 22:20 (eight years ago)

now that theyre not playing D they might be kinda cool, a 135-137 game v the rockets sounds ok

lag∞n, Friday, 10 November 2017 22:22 (eight years ago)

no they are playing d now. for one half a game at least. just enough to blow teams out.

yeahi hear you. i was kinda excited when they were losing this year cos they had some fun close games.

Spottie, Friday, 10 November 2017 22:36 (eight years ago)

kyrie has been an interesting case study this year in at least as far as the stats/eye test divide goes, seems like he’s very comfortable being the primary guy and people are really fixating on his positive attributes, yet his numbers are more or less the same iirc. otoh the celtics are winning and sources say he’s trying on defense, so maybe there is something going on there

k3vin k., Monday, 13 November 2017 18:26 (eight years ago)

his raw boxscore numbers are actually down i think

Spottie, Monday, 13 November 2017 18:31 (eight years ago)

his numbers are worse! (cause hes not hitting his 3s) but defensive effort is def way better

i wld say he looked wildly uncomfortable in his role to start the season but has started to find his groove as wld be expected w adjusting to a new team/system but isnt nearly totally integrated yet, still has tons of awful offensive possessions mostly to do w playing way too much iso, he waves off screens all the time which seems dumb to me just use the screen its easier, and hes been great in the pnr

lag∞n, Monday, 13 November 2017 18:32 (eight years ago)

walks the ball up the court too much burns clock w pointless dribbling etc

lag∞n, Monday, 13 November 2017 18:34 (eight years ago)

tho sometimes he does that let the ball roll all the way up the court before touching it thing to save the shot clock thing which is p cool, theres really no reason just to use it on a short clock i mean picking the ball up past half court with a full 24 is a pretty huge advantage

lag∞n, Monday, 13 November 2017 18:36 (eight years ago)

Kyrie definitely has flaws but he is so damn fun to watch, his handles and some of the shots that he pulls off are just absolutely beautiful. Cavs are significantly less fun so far and I blame dudes like Derrick Rose but most of it is because Kyrie is gone

― marcos, Friday, November 10, 2017 2:08 PM (three days ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

i used to love watching peak-era D-Rose but i'm pretty sure he's in the top 3 most painful NBA players to watch now.

for this seasons holdovers I'd go:

Covington
Jokic
Giannis
Embiid

and then add:

Montrezl (classic hustle guy)
Sabonis (love a big that can dish)
De'aron Fox (push push push)
Shai GA (love how calmly and in control he plays)
Luka (fun to see all the ways he can create_

Spottie, Wednesday, 5 December 2018 18:06 (six years ago)

montrezl is playing like crazy this year not sure what go into him, he does really skilled powerful moves as the roll man on the reg now

giannis and kawhi have this horrifying force of nature thing going where you want to look away but cant

lag∞n, Wednesday, 5 December 2018 18:22 (six years ago)

Haven't watched Brow yet this year. It felt like coming into this season he was the frontrunner for MVP but the Pels aren't looking too hot yet. Has Jokic fully taken over in that race?

Fetchboy, Wednesday, 5 December 2018 18:22 (six years ago)

I think jokic is a little further down in the power rankings now. feel like the consensus contenders at this point are giannis/embiid/brow/kawhi/bron/curry

very legal and very cool (k3vin k.), Wednesday, 5 December 2018 18:25 (six years ago)

brow is putting up super mvp numbers but yeah maybe not quite super enough to get it on a 500 team, tho i think that —needs to be a winner— conventional wisdom has shifted somewhat, dont see them giving it to jokic as generally a player has to be an established superstar for a least a year to be admitted as a finalist, giannis prob the front runner now

lag∞n, Wednesday, 5 December 2018 18:26 (six years ago)

i think the pels record hurts brow for sure. everyone says that roster is a dumpster fire but i think they have some good players, the top 5 at least. the elfrid payton injury hurt them quite a bit which is weird.

Spottie, Wednesday, 5 December 2018 19:09 (six years ago)

jokic has too many weird games still.

Spottie, Wednesday, 5 December 2018 19:10 (six years ago)
