Don't get hurt, Baron!!

GET READY FOR IT

YOU KNOW IT'S COMING

"OUT 2-4 MONTHS"

Its morph 'em to pun cute (Matt Chesnut), Thursday, 3 November 2005 03:00 (nineteen years ago)

IT HAPPENED! :(

Leeeeeeeeeee (Leee), Thursday, 3 November 2005 05:36 (nineteen years ago)

Psst Matt, we're supposed to be cruel to the MAVS and ROCKETS fans. Didn't you get the memo?

This Field Left Blank (Dee the Lurker), Thursday, 3 November 2005 06:10 (nineteen years ago)

Poor Leeeeee.

This Field Left Blank (Dee the Lurker), Thursday, 3 November 2005 06:10 (nineteen years ago)

Warriors turned it on late.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Thursday, 3 November 2005 08:28 (nineteen years ago)

Dee, I don't think I was cruel, Baron's one of my favorite non-Spurs. But broken clocks tell the correct time twice a day. And given the frequency with which which Baron gets injured, it was just a matter of time before that prophecy came true.

x-post

Its morph 'em to pun cute (Matt Chesnut), Thursday, 3 November 2005 14:19 (nineteen years ago)

fell asleep with the Hawks winning by 9, wake up and they lost by 25 - now that's more like it.

Josh Love (screamapillar), Thursday, 3 November 2005 14:20 (nineteen years ago)

i am sincerely rooting for the warriors, or at least for adonal foyle

The Obligatory Sourpuss (Begs2Differ), Thursday, 3 November 2005 14:41 (nineteen years ago)

Why are you rooting for Adonal Foyle? He gets paid, like, a hundred grand per rebound. That contract infuriates me.

Jeff Reguilon (Talent Explosion), Friday, 4 November 2005 16:32 (nineteen years ago)

He's a good guy who has had a weird and charmed life, and still has the potential to do something big. The contract is not his fault. Plus if you were a fan you'd want him to do WELL for his money instead of root for him to fail.

Furthermore, until this morning he was on my fantasy team. However, I have dropped him. Leee, he's all yours.

The Obligatory Sourpuss (Begs2Differ), Friday, 4 November 2005 17:06 (nineteen years ago)

True. Most of my anger is guided towards Mullin anyway. He almost won me back with a great draft, then he gave Lil' Dunleavey another dumb contract. I'm pretty sure he's trying to make me cry at this point.

I'm excited for the Ike Diogu era, though.

Jeff Reguilon (Talent Explosion), Friday, 4 November 2005 17:10 (nineteen years ago)

No dissing our flat-topped GM! Though I admit I was similarly dumbfounded with the Dunleavy signing.

Leeeeeeeeeee (Leee), Friday, 4 November 2005 19:08 (nineteen years ago)

re: fantasy + Adonal, I think I'm going to wait for Biedrins to get more PT!

MAYBE I SHOULD QUIT TALKING TRASH ABOUT THE TEAMS THEY ARE PLAYING.

Obsessing over the unobtainable and nonexistent. (Leee), Saturday, 10 December 2005 20:04 (nineteen years ago)

That was a pretty close game. Really poor shot selection down the stretch by the Warriors, though. Granted, Detroit was completely taking away the middle and begging them to shoot 3s, which sadly they enjoy doing despite being horrible at it.

Hey dudes, showed up to my first game of the season last night and lucky for me, the Warriors decided to show up as well. Still a pretty sloppy game.

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Wednesday, 18 January 2006 00:05 (nineteen years ago)

I'm glad that someone else is bumping this thread. Almost as glad that the W's broke that ugly streak.

c(''c) (Leee), Wednesday, 18 January 2006 00:45 (nineteen years ago)

Baron may not be injured but hes not gonna be playing much if he keeps punching useless players like Luke Ridenor (or however you spell that bastard's name)

J. Lamphere (WatchMeJumpStart), Friday, 20 January 2006 03:24 (nineteen years ago)

Luke Ridnour isn't useless. Twerpy, yes, but not useless. He's a very creative passer.

And I REALLY don't understand not making the Artest trade. Like, at all.

Don Nelson is back in town! Bye, Monty.

Bye defense!

c('°c) (Leee), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 16:16 (eighteen years ago)

The Montgomery era ends in Golden State. That dude should've stayed at Stanford, although he's a lot richer for jumping to the Association. So can anyone name a coach who ever made a successful transition from college to the NBA? The best answer I could come up with (after consulting Basketball Reference) is Bill Fitch, and even that is a stretch. And lots of big name flame outs come to mind (Calipari, Floyd, PITINO!).

Aaron W (Aaron W), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 19:31 (eighteen years ago)

Pitino did a good job with the Knicks, if memory serves. Or am I thinking of someone else?

polyphonic (polyphonic), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 19:51 (eighteen years ago)

Have Nelson and Tim Hardaway ever reconciled? We could have the front-office/coaching version of Run TMC!

c('°c) (Leee), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 19:57 (eighteen years ago)

Whatever success that Pitino had with the Knicks (making the playoffs both years) is totally outweighed by the total mess he made out of the Celtics. I really think that the Celtics are just now recovering from that debacle.

Jeff Reguil0n (Talent Explosion), Friday, 15 September 2006 20:21 (eighteen years ago)

Good question. I mean, he almost got the coaching gig before they went with Monty.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Friday, 15 September 2006 20:58 (eighteen years ago)

He won't be the bench coach anymore. Seems peeved, with good reason, but might finish out his contract w/ GSW Hoops in some other capacity.

Nelson on Biedrins, < 31% FT last season and 1 for 7 this preseason: "That's going to definitely hold him back from being a terrific player. I can drop-kick in free throws better than he can."

LOL Nelly it's been too long!

c('°c) (Leee), Monday, 23 October 2006 03:50 (eighteen years ago)

If I'm reading this right, Mr. Diogu took a swipe at Lil' Duns! Have I mentioned how much I love Ike?

Jeff Reguil0n (Talent Explosion), Monday, 23 October 2006 16:08 (eighteen years ago)

As with every year, I am cautiously psyched about the Warriors chances this year. If Nelson can get Baron to pass the ball and not take stupid 3s they will be much improved.

cankles, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 16:43 (eighteen years ago)

jessica alba and the possibility of the warriors beating the mavs both such burning sweetness - carlos suntanama not so much. actually quite happy the mavs prolonged the series long enough for me to get back to a place where they show something thats not the world cup of cricket (congrats or whatever australia). that being said they better fucking take care of the business tonite.

Panning through the crowd, there was this lone Mavs fan in a sea of yellow. He must've been the saddest dude in Oakland. lol too badz

m bison, Friday, 4 May 2007 05:20 (eighteen years ago)

Also how does Baron's game rank among all-time hampered ballers in the playoffs? Willis Reed, Jordan with the flu?

m bison, Friday, 4 May 2007 05:21 (eighteen years ago)

hghaha i noticed that shot too m bison, everyone around him was going crazy and he was just standing still with his arms at his side

that was the most satisfying NBA game i've seen in my entire life. i was so giddy throughout the second half when they just kept kicking the mavs in their fucking commie balls

cankles, Friday, 4 May 2007 05:26 (eighteen years ago)

i kept making all this probably embarrassing fist pumps while 'watching' the game on yahoo.com in this coffeeshop, these douches have obv no interest in sports, they're busy talking about their shifting sexual boundaries or whatever.

félix pié, Friday, 4 May 2007 05:28 (eighteen years ago)

that off balance three point prayer Baron chucked up... wow.
So you've kinda gotta think they're going to the western conference finals right? I sure hope so; a warriors/suns matchup would be fuckin' awesome.

haha when Baron hit that three trying to draw a foul, I think that proved that there is a god and that he just loves Baron Davis more than the rest of us.

Best moment for me was when he fronted austin chroche after he was clotheslined by him.

m bison, Friday, 4 May 2007 05:48 (eighteen years ago)

haha man i was doing so much fist-pumping (n/h), i was so stoked i wanted to go out there and beat up some germans

my fear right now is that GS ends up playing the spurs and are ground into the dirt by them :'( i can even live with the suns winning the west as long as the fucking spurs eat shit

cankles, Friday, 4 May 2007 06:11 (eighteen years ago)

i'm totally stunned over here guys - like how did this utter ownage come to pass? i don't think i've really ever seen a team hold such kryptonite over one so clearly superior. so sweet really just couldn't believe how easy it was. right before the game me and a friend were joking all lol what if the warriors just demolished the mavs by like 25 points or something lol.

David R., Friday, 4 May 2007 15:14 (eighteen years ago)

True anecdote!

After Game 5 in Dallas, a bunch of diners at some restaurant saw Stephen Jackson walking outside and thus began to jeer at him. Jax PULLS OUT: A money clip that's 6 large, and waves it at them. Cheers, "big" D!

[i]i'm totally stunned over here guys - like how did this utter ownage come to pass? i don't think i've really ever seen a team hold such kryptonite over one so clearly superior.[i]

You have to think Don Nelson is a main factor here (the other big one being Baron Davis actually, y'know, trying hard). Not only because Nellieball is very difficult to coach and strategize against, but because he more or less built the foundation of the Mavericks and mentored Avery and thus they're an open-book to him...a book that he wrote. The way GS defensed Dirk and basically made their whole team uncomfortable in running its offense will undoubtedly become the model for all other teams.

Hey, good deal for everyone. Celtics need a big man, and can afford to have a non-scoring, defense-first center for 15-20 minutes a game. Warriors get some cap space.

I wish Adonyl had basketball skills to go along with being a cool person.

Leee, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 21:50 (seventeen years ago)

If the Warriors sign Elton Brand, they're going to be pretty damned good.

If Brand stays with the Clips, they are beyond fucked.

polyphonic, Thursday, 3 July 2008 17:19 (seventeen years ago)

Only for '08-'09, surely; not sure how the cap dynamics work with Birded Monta and Andris, but with the big FA class the year after plus another potential lottery pick, '09-'10 might be return to status if the world doesn't end.

Leee, Thursday, 3 July 2008 18:01 (seventeen years ago)

What free agents will want to come here? Monta and Biedrins are nice, the youngsters have yet to perform, and Jackson is more of a role player than a building block. Monta isn't much of a PG, and a little undersized to be the focal point of the offense at SG, as great as he is. Baron's offensive ability opened a lot of lanes to the basket for Monta.

They'd be smart to use Jackson as a 6th man and try to use Randolph at the SF ... Jackson settles for threes too much ... they need post scoring threats and rebounding at SF/PF to draw attention away from Monta, who ideally should flow from empty spot to empty spot a la Chris Paul or Steve Nash, not setting up at the perimeter and letting the shooters space the floor like Davis often did.

Plus, with Nelson probably on the way out, they'll likely have a new coach, and most of the good teams in the west are also relatively young: Utah, Houston, LA, Clips, Portland... San Antonio, Dallas, and Phoenix are older, but I don't see the Warriors being very competitive with them.

With Brand, I think you can get by with Jackson at SF. He gives the team a perimeter threat and great defense. Also, he makes for a nice counterpart to Biedrins.

The Warriors as presently constituted strike me as part of the next group of teams with Sacramento etc.

polyphonic, Thursday, 3 July 2008 19:32 (seventeen years ago)
