nash or dirk?

Nashty. Headed for 60 wins without Amare is an amazing feat.

Dirk's great, but I think he's really suffering without Howard in the lineup to pick up some of the energy, and these days he never seems to completely take over games like he used to. That's the downside to playing him as more of a traditional big man, I guess.

Erick Dampier is better than Shaq (miloaukerman), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 05:26 (nineteen years ago)

Bill Walton still says Shaq is the greatest player in the game right now, and he sure knows his stuff! So I'll go w/ Nash.

What about Shawn Marion? Anyone want to argue for the Matrix?

Jeff Reguil0n (Talent Explosion), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 16:46 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, Nash or Marion.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 17:06 (nineteen years ago)

Chauncey Billups! But Nash is going to win. I wonder how many votes Kobe is going to get?

Aaron W (Aaron W), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 18:34 (nineteen years ago)

Too many.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 19:05 (nineteen years ago)

I love Chauncey, but Nash's season is more impressive (higher FG%, more rebounds, more assists) and Detroit's been way healthier.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 19:07 (nineteen years ago)

Even after watching the Lakers lose, I'm still convinced the MVP is Kobe. Phil Jackson might as well be playing Kobe and some freakishly tall YMCA kids cos it wouldn't make a bit of difference if their center was Chris Mihm or Chris Evert. This all predicates on the Lakers making the playoffs tho. If not, I gotta say Nash again, for the same reasons as Milo. If Dirk is even being considered, Elton Brand should get some attention too.

Pwnjabi MC (Matt Chesnut), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 19:26 (nineteen years ago)

I think I'd go with the Matrix. Nash to me is still too much of a liability on defense to be considered for the MVP.

LeBron?

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Friday, 10 March 2006 00:44 (nineteen years ago)

i can't imagine he won't win it at some point, but right now, lebron is probably in the back half of the possible mvp pack with kobe, iverson, etc...the cavs just aren't good enough yet, and if he really was playing at mvp level he would either be making them better or winning games single-handed. in a weaker year he'd win it but right now it's dirk vs steve.

Tommy Heinsohn's top 3 for MVP:

1) Kevin Garnett
2) Paul Pierce
3) Ray Allen

I shit you not, he actually spent 5-10 minutes talking about this during a game last month, and after he finished Mike Gorman (his play-by-play partner) just let that spiel hang in the air for a few seconds like a rank fart during church before going back to live action.

It's going to be Kobe. Even if there might be a marginal statistical argument in favor of Paul or James, most people are going to look at the fact that the Lakers won the West despite injuries to 2 of their 3 best non-Kobe players at various points and then at Kobe's still great stats and likely All-Defensive team status (even if maybe he should be 2nd or 3rd according to some complicated metric) and clutch "bonafides" and give it to him.

Alex in SF, Wednesday, 16 April 2008 21:00 (seventeen years ago)

As long as it isn't Steve Nash, I'm fine with it.

polyphonic, Wednesday, 16 April 2008 22:23 (seventeen years ago)

I think Kobe is the least deserving of the 3, though I wouldn't be up in arms if he did get the nod (Lebron and Paul will get theirs eventually, anyway). Both the Cavs and the Hornets would be absolutely terrible without LBJ and CP3, respectively. Cavs would not make the playoffs--even in anemic East-- without LBJ, and the Hornets would still be the Hornets of old. CP3 made West and all-star, and made Chandler a legitimate NBA starting center. Pau, Fisher, and Odom were all pretty damn good players without Kobe. I still think Kobe is the best all-around player in the world, just not the most valuable to his team.

yeah this award is all about paying your dues and getting yours eventually. kind of lame, but you can't stop now...
and this year is kobe's eventually

(even tho the lakers have the most talent in the league. odom as third or fourth option is crazy)

hytop, Thursday, 17 April 2008 20:49 (seventeen years ago)

odom as second option deserves a beating. what a headcase

tremendoid, Thursday, 17 April 2008 21:25 (seventeen years ago)

and i mean before he lost his son too before someone starts blubbering

tremendoid, Thursday, 17 April 2008 21:26 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, much much better when the pressure is off

carne asada, Thursday, 17 April 2008 21:27 (seventeen years ago)

at least the tail end of the heat season disproved the matrix = hidden mvp talk from a couple of yrs back

agent hibachi, Friday, 18 April 2008 00:21 (seventeen years ago)

i think it's kind of bs to make it lifetime achievement but i'm legitimately fine with kobe getting his this year; cp and bron will seriously be stacking them things by the time they're old dudes

agent hibachi, Friday, 18 April 2008 00:22 (seventeen years ago)

also kobe playing with the busted finger is legitimately awesome, it hardly even gets mentioned anymore...that finger would have made vince carter retire

agent hibachi, Friday, 18 April 2008 00:23 (seventeen years ago)

ok, that was cheap, sorry
