From my youth for the former category:

World B. Free
Joe Barry Carroll

Guys from the latter category who leap immediately to mind:

Bernard King

Zack Randolph is totally king of meaningless numbers on bad teams.

I'm just going to say World B. Free's name again cuz it always tickled me that he renamed himself World B. Free.

The entirety of the Knicks and the Warriors? Where do we put David Lee? I've always been curious to see how Jamal Crawford would be on a good team. For the former: Al Harrington, Ricky Davis, Flip Murray, Antawn Jamison, Ramon Sessions (possibly as I've never seen him play.)

Also: Kevin Martin, John Salmons.

i dunno, i might put antawn in the latter category? except for one season with dallas, the dude has played for the warriors and the wizards. he always seemed pretty solid, like an antoine (lol) walker type. maybe i'm wrong though, i didn't see him play a whole lot because of his boring teams.

I don't think Jamison is that good, but compared to some of these dudes he's a freakin' all star.

this meme is imo out of control - a lot of people thought paul pierce was one of these guys - necessitating the need when he took finals mvp for the new counter meme paul pierce really matured and toned down his game when garnett y allen arrived - bitch paul pierce was always the fucking truth

if yr the only good player on yr team yr fg% and turnovers are gonna take a hit and youre going to have to conserve energy on d - 25-6-4 is simply not poopooable

I don't think it is, I just think that too many players get stuck with the "numbers" tag. But Zach Randolph alone is proof that this concept exists for a reason.

I think this guy could be an important part of a contender. I think the idea is more along the lines of if you have Zach Randolph playing big minutes on your team you are most likely not going to be playing winning basketball.

I bristle when people say that because he is a fellow Cal alum, but it's probably true.

what about arenas for the first category

Dr. Phil, Friday, 24 April 2009 03:35 (sixteen years ago)

2nd category rather

Dr. Phil, Friday, 24 April 2009 03:35 (sixteen years ago)

I would put him in the "guys on bad teams who are actually good but are way overpaid" category.

Jamison's got a decent inside-outside game, but it's been a minute since he actually did something worthwhile besides putting up stats- playing on early 00's Warriors teams is a nice way to get great career averages. It'll be interesting to see how the new Arenas/Jamison/Butler does next season - Arenas seemed to have a pass-first mentality in the two games he played this year, and they have very promising big men in JaVale McGee and Andray Blatche, and if they can get Flip...

Was pretty great when the Wizards ran a DeShawn Stevenson and Mike James backcourt earlier in the season, they shoulda handed out refunds at the arena entrance.

Arenas is good, but yeah there's no way someone whose main offensive weapon is to jack three's uncontrollably should be getting max figures. But it was probably a good financial move with regards to fan appeal and draw, what with all the Gilbertology and buzzer-beaters he's hit.
