xp probably was - the alamodome was the first of those cavernous arenas that swallow up the sound wasn't it? always seemed way huge. robinson was real cool in my book. still remember that 71 pt. mockery that clinched his scoring title, hilarious. shaq was pissed

to ehhhhhhrrrrrr (tremendoid), Saturday, 12 September 2009 04:25 (sixteen years ago)

y'know, that was the knock about the alamodome cos it was the city's attempt to attract a football team and they were just like, fuck, spurs can play there i guess. but they sold enough inexpensive tickets so that everyday fans could go, and especially when they expanded the seating you could pack nearly 40,000 in there. i probably went to at least a dozen games there and nearly that at the at&t center and it's never been as rowdy at the new venue than it was at the alamodome. i don't know if it's because new arena attracts the johnny-come-latelies who hardly gave a shit about the team save for the last 10 years. kinda dudes who dress business casual to a fucking ballgame bring their wives who could be their daughters and their daughters who could be their wives, gtfo.

watching this now. he actually says this about his own brother - "small things come in small packages"

am0n, Sunday, 13 September 2009 06:25 (sixteen years ago)

i think that yahoo writer is blowing the speech out of proportion tho, it seems more like the ball-busting humor typically found in speeches but comes out awkward/dickish cuz it's mj

am0n, Sunday, 13 September 2009 06:38 (sixteen years ago)

lots of writers are trying to latch on to it being "bitter" and another example of his near maniacal competitiveness. loosen up, people.

haven't watched speech yet, is this just another case of nerd projection by sports writer?

i read that article before watching and was cringing like o man do i even want to see this and then watched it and it was not a big deal at all. until they invent a laughter-sincerity barometer i'm gonna guess this writer is full of shit and the audience did enjoy the speech. hell they were probably just glad to be in the room with him

am0n, Sunday, 13 September 2009 17:55 (sixteen years ago)

is it on youtube?

dorroughmac (k3vin k.), Sunday, 13 September 2009 17:56 (sixteen years ago)

loool speaking of athletes lacking public grace

Bryon Russell has challenged Michael Jordan to a pickup game in California.

"I'll play his ass right now," Russell told Yahoo! Sports. "This is a call-out for him to come play me. He can come out here in his private jet and come play. He's got millions of dollars. He can pay for the jet. He can meet me at the Recreation Center in Calabasas.

"We can have Mark Jackson do the commentating. We can have Mitch Richmond do the officiating. We can put it on TV and see if Michael's still got it."

"loool speaking of athletes lacking public grace"

But read the rest of the piece! Russell's totally having fun with it.

pretty funny that insanely competitive athlete making an induction speech that showcases what motivated him got this reaction. but after further thought, really Michael, LET IT GO. You're the best, you've won it all, hardly anyone disputes this. You are not going to play at 50. The young bucks would run circles around you. Your time is done. Time to focus on your front office career successes. Oh wait.
