Durant still in his demi-god phase. Should be fun to watch, but OKC will go down against LAL, assuming the refs still have whistles they can blow at odd moments, just to keep things going the right way.

that series could easily go 6 or 7
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 14 April 2010 17:24 (fifteen years ago)
lakers are 3-1 vs okc this year -- blew okc out once, got blown out once, and then beat them by 2 points twice -- okc could easily steal 2 games
neither team is playing well going into the playoffs. OKC was in the 6th spot not long ago but tanked going down the stretch.
lack of experience and added playoff pressure will kick OKC in the ass
― Aerosol, Wednesday, 14 April 2010 17:32 (fifteen years ago)
sweet series - could fall anywhere between la winning easily or a dogfight - la could even lose omg
― ice cr?m, Wednesday, 14 April 2010 17:43 (fifteen years ago)
i mean what if durant just goes OFF that could get kinda nuts rite
Durant is very likely to "just go OFF" against LA, but in the playoffs that can screw up a team pretty badly. No one can play one-on-five in the playoffs and win a seven game series. High entertainment value, though.
― Aimless, Wednesday, 14 April 2010 17:48 (fifteen years ago)
okc could beat the lakers straight up twice, i think that's p obvious -- if they get durant on a hot night vs kobe on an off night or something...

http://img372.imageshack.us/img372/5360/2010playoffscenarios2.jpg
the playoff scenarios are dizzying imo, but the most likely scenario has the spurs and mavs fighting first round. i want 2 believe we can beat them, we def have the talent and i think we matchup better than we have in the past (certainly last year). parker can lite up kidd p badly, manu is healthy *knocks on wood*, mcdyess is as good a cover for nowitzki as we've ever had, but the mavs have a lot of weapons
― acoustic bugaloo (m bison), Wednesday, 14 April 2010 18:00 (fifteen years ago)
the recipe for ok citys success would seem to be bonkers durant + sik D - id feel a lot better abt their chances if westbrook hadnt been playing like ass for the last 2 months - pg is where they can and must dominate - generally if la losses before the finals people are gonna be pointing and loling at fisher et al
and aimless tell it to the 01 76ers - im sure there are tons other examples of the dominant scorer paired w/solid stingy supporting cast taking a playoff series or three - its kinda a basic nba set up - tho obvs tough to win it all from that base
― ice cr?m, Wednesday, 14 April 2010 18:02 (fifteen years ago)
okc will crumble against the lakers, this is their first playoffs ever, as much as i would <3 a gsw over dallas type situation
― acoustic bugaloo (m bison), Wednesday, 14 April 2010 18:02 (fifteen years ago)
the crumble scenario is based on the lakers playing well, not really a given it seems

does okc every play sick D? i see them go for steals and stuff. but lock down defense? are they capable? Thabo is a good defender, no? i haven’t seen them play enough i guess
― Aerosol, Wednesday, 14 April 2010 18:08 (fifteen years ago)
theyre currently 8th in defensive efficiency, but iirc they were as high as 3rd earlier in the season, so they can D it up - not sure if they they have the discipline or experience to make playoff style in series adjustments yet, but theoretically they can be a v good defensive team - could see their young legs giving lakerss aging backcourt trouble def
― ice cr?m, Wednesday, 14 April 2010 18:15 (fifteen years ago)
don't know if they can be relied on to make stops in the clutch, but they allow just under 98 a game, not bad

just to be clear i dont at all see okc taking this series, but i do think they could make it interesting, and i would really really enjoy it if they did win
― ice cr?m, Wednesday, 14 April 2010 18:17 (fifteen years ago)
o i agree whole<3edly, and it brings me no pleasure to hunch that way, but everyone on the thunder is about 8 years old give or take and they will be exploited to the extent that the UN will be called in. i think home court and experience will matter that much.
― acoustic bugaloo (m bison), Wednesday, 14 April 2010 18:28 (fifteen years ago)
im generally not a huge believer in the decisive qualities of 'playoff experience' but the divide here is massive, also la is just better, even if they havent been playing like it recently

― dispatched...with extreme vujacic (tremendoid), Friday, 18 June 2010 17:04 (fifteen years ago)
i know part of their offense is rondo standing at the top of the key and looking for allen or pierce to come off screens, but that became their WHOLE offense. rondo didn't even attempt to penetrate.
i thought this the whole game 6 actually, they barely screened for rondo and expected him to break down kobe several times down while the rest of the dudes stood in their spots, it was crazy imo. kobe was also giving more pressure that game, backing off again in game 7 allowed garnett to go off to some degree
― dispatched...with extreme vujacic (tremendoid), Friday, 18 June 2010 17:09 (fifteen years ago)
thing about ray was that he usually uses the dribble-drive as option b coming off screens when he knows his shot is off. but the lakers defended the middle extremely well and he had no space when he did that. i don't blame him because from game three on no one other than his mom was confident when he was shooting j's.
― call all destroyer, Friday, 18 June 2010 17:10 (fifteen years ago)
he's nuts, but you know, when have you seen an athlete having more fun and being more honestly about himself?
i'm kinda in love with him right now.
"KOBE PASSED ME THE BALL! He NEVER PASSES ME THE BALL!"
― m@tt h (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 18 June 2010 17:11 (fifteen years ago)
also they should have just fed it to rasheed and have him hit the banker every single time
xp I feel garnett was still hitting j's at a good clip. I do feel pierce was taken out of his game a bit, once they started calling the games a bit tighter and he couldn't rely on his old man lean-ins/getting the foul moves.
― dyao, Friday, 18 June 2010 17:12 (fifteen years ago)
I mean every single basketball player loses confidence in his jumper but I feel ray's been in the league long enough to know how to shoot his way out of that. I know it's armchair psychologist but knowing ray's OCD tendencies it's hard not to read tons of self-doubt/lack of self confidence in his play in games 3-7.
― dyao, Friday, 18 June 2010 17:14 (fifteen years ago)
imo he was gassed from chasing kobe for the entire series and was well aware of that fact
― call all destroyer, Friday, 18 June 2010 17:15 (fifteen years ago)

― collardio gelatinous, Friday, 18 June 2010 17:24 (fifteen years ago)
I dunno...even when your J is off you don't miss open layups, of which he missed many. it's frustrating when you feel like you roll the dice with allen every single game - is the good allen who drops 4-8 3's gonna show up os is the bad 0-13 allen going to show up.
also tbf ray was splitting duty on kobe w/ rondo

still a bit heartbroken that the incredible Cs run was a few minutes from the championship and simply ran out of gas. in a year or two i bet rondo has the confidence (and jumper) to be the #1 guy to turn that into a last-second duel with kobe, but the other parts are even older. last year if kg was healthy would ray have been not a complete mess, or would pau have stepped up as much as he did last night?
think pau was absolutely dynamite in that game and have to give it up to him.

Is it just me, or didn't the Lakers win the championship last year with almost exactly the same team as this year, the only difference being that they won it without Ron Artest? So why is this video making out like Artest was the man who won it for them? All he proved is that he's about as good as Trevor Ariza.
― Aimless, Tuesday, 22 June 2010 03:03 (fifteen years ago)
