this i don't believe. i think o'neal is desperately concerned with going out on a super high note -- preferably by beating bryant in the finals. he could have signed for more money elsewhere. not that i think he's likely to put boston over-the-top at this stage of his career, but whatevs.

i hope he wears the bowtie during games, is all i hope.

BOSTON — NBA analyst David Aldridge said Wednesday that with the addition of Shaquille O'Neal, the Celtics have vastly improved their chances of leading the league in three-second lane violations for the 2010–2011 season. "Not only does Shaq's presence in the paint give his team more opportunities to turn the ball over, but the Celtics have also added an experienced big man who makes an already old team significantly older," said Aldridge, adding that O'Neal should fill a key role in terms of drastically slowing down the Celtics' offense. i'm not 100% vouching for this but i have seen it laid out as basically trading holliday, porzingis, and this year's pelicans second-round pick for vucevic and being out of the tax. that's pretty good, and the thing about the tax is you have to get out of it at some point. it will be interesting to see if they try to stay out next year, reset the repeater, and load up for another 3-year run, and obviously there are questions about the new owner but this is basically what you are supposed to do in their position.

been reported that new owner is fine with paying the tax and even this year there was no order to get under it, who knows if thats all true but it has been said

i'll believe it for now. getting under this year wasn't painful and opens up more options in the offseason.

how they did it was they had a $20m exemption from the zinger trade which they used to receive voochs contract so then simons salary going out with no matching coming in creates the exemption, in a sense they rolled over the soon to expire zinger exemption and made it a chunk bigger
