I've got NBA2k10, and its pretty good. The reviews for 2k11 are all pretty good to excellent.
Anyone here play any hoops titles, preferably for PS3?

I have NCAA '10 for the 360. It's okay. I kinda feel like all the basketball games haven't improved in the last five years.

I played the shit out of nba2k for dreamcast...that was the last time I ever did that
nowadays it seems you hit a button an your player goes into a long extended 10 second animation where you can't actually do anything, just so they can show off all the 2043290420 hours of stop motion capture they did for the game
lame

I usually buy one or more of the current basketball games at some point during the season, get frustrated with something broken/missing and sell it. Last time I kept a game for a whole season was Live 2005, which was fantastic. Before that, Inside Drive 04 (best AI and customization ever) and 2K3 were keepers. Really disappointed with hoops on the newer consoles, but if no game killing bugs pop up in the next week or two I might be tempted by 2K11. Much more control than last year's version (the endless triggered animations - UGH!!!), though I still hate isomotion. NBA Elite has promise in a year or two when they get AI and animations to go with the controls. Demo felt sweet for the one on one part of hoops, but the rest was sorely lacking. 2K demo is a waste of time, as always. Why, if the big hook is real playsets, did you not put them in the demo for the two teams involved? Stupid. [/rant]

I've played these every year for years, usually really heavily during the winter. But barely touched and sold 2k9 and 10 abs will probably skip 11 after being bored senseless by the samey demo and, yeah, the animation complaints are otm.

Abs = and /lol iPhone
My biggest beef with NBA 2k10 was the dribble controls. The low-post play was pretty solid once you spent an hour figuring out how to string the different moves together, the icon passing was solid, the AI defensive switching was maddeningly poor sometimes, but what else is new, and I found the play sets to be pretty consistent. When I was able to get Kobe/Pau/Odom running the break, they were pretty unstoppable. LeBron was untouchable, too.
I'm probably going to get 2k11 - my wife will be travelling for the majority of October/early November, so unfettered video game playing will keep me out of trouble.

I'm sort of holding off for team play to grab the public imagination a bit more - I'd rather play single player than some kid in Nebraska but if somehow I could play as just one dude with actual other humans doing the same I'd be so so into it.

I haven't played any of the current generation of consoles bar a few games of MLB The Show on PS3. Had to cancel a vacation due to all my time off being eaten up by having surgery (whatta country), so I said fuck it and just ordered a PS3 plus NBA2K11. Stoked! Gonna be off work on disability for at least another couple weeks, so I fully expect to be a vegged-out zombie in the meantime.

Ok so I bought 2k11. It's good!
HOW DO I PLAY DEFENSE? I cannot figure this out at all, like when I press 'lock on' my dude goes into a defensive stance but he just kinda stands there and if I move then he snaps out of it?
― Gravel Puzzleworth, Monday, 22 November 2010 04:01 (fifteen years ago)
that's how you play defense in the NBA irl too iirc

Hold the left trigger and strafe. Unless the offensive player sprints you should be able to keep him in front of you. Gotta play the angles.
― EZ Snappin, Monday, 22 November 2010 04:10 (fifteen years ago)
Cool that's helpful! What should I do in the post?
― Gravel Puzzleworth, Monday, 22 November 2010 04:18 (fifteen years ago)
Left trigger should put an arm on the back of the offensive player. Hold and try to move in the same direction as the offensive player as he turns to the left or right.
There is a manual on the 2K website that lists more of the moves than the flimsy insert did. Might be worth a download (I need to do it too, now that I've mentioned it).
