There weren't going to be any Mavs in the starting lineup, and never will be until Garnett gets traded to the Bulls or Yao gets sent to a re-education camp.

Dirk will probably get Yao's starting spot when Stern announces the reserves and replacements.

THIS YEAR ALLSTAR GAME SHOULD BE SUNS V FOREIGNERS

How does Duncan edge Dirk? Voters be nuts.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 26 January 2007 18:46 (eighteen years ago)

i like dirk alright - certainly way way better than duncan

People hate free throw shooters.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 26 January 2007 20:11 (eighteen years ago)

the west has an odd lineup. mcgrady as shooting guard? garnett as SMALL forward??? voting shaq in as a starter is just goofy.

Chesty Joe Morgan (Chesty Joe Morgan), Friday, 26 January 2007 22:04 (eighteen years ago)

voting shaq in as a starter is just goofy.

He's arguably the best player of his era, and he's incredibly media-friendly. Not that odd.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Friday, 26 January 2007 22:25 (eighteen years ago)

1. Shaquille has played in FIVE games this year.
2. The media don't vote for starters, the fans do.
3. Fans are just...not very aware of what's going on, is all.

1. Shaquille has played in FIVE games this year.

Right, and he won't play in the All-Star game either. It's a moot point.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Saturday, 27 January 2007 02:02 (eighteen years ago)

So you really honestly think the fans were right to select him as the starting center for the All-Star Game? If so, that's cool. But that's why I don't like the All-Star Game, and haven't watched one in 13 years. All I care about is the competitions.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Saturday, 27 January 2007 02:50 (eighteen years ago)

rza - I was gonna follow up w/ a list of freethrow shooters that people hate to show I was goofing, but I figured that was goofy enough on its own. Guess it wasn't?

David R. (popshots75`), Saturday, 27 January 2007 04:01 (eighteen years ago)

sorry, my sense of humor is off lately :-\

the art of pretend non-lawyering. (tehresa), Saturday, 27 January 2007 09:13 (eighteen years ago)

So you really honestly think the fans were right to select him as the starting center for the All-Star Game?

I don't know, I would have liked to see Michael Jordan even in his old days, when he didn't deserve to be there, more than I wanted to see the sixth best guard in the East. Obviously he didn't deserve to be there, but I don't begrudge the fans for wanting to see him. Dude is entertaining.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Saturday, 27 January 2007 09:28 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, apparently he is going to start. Oops!

Anyway, I don't begrudge the people who want to see the dude play.

No, fans of basketball, fans of the NBA are, but the majority of people who show up to games and vote, aren't.

Chesty Joe Morgan (Chesty Joe Morgan), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 01:39 (eighteen years ago)

CHRIS BOSH! WOO-HOO!!!

The Raptors are leading their division, and have won 9 of the last 11. People need to wake up and realize that this kid is a serious MVP candidate.

J-rock (Julien Sandiford), Thursday, 8 February 2007 09:00 (eighteen years ago)

i like bosh, i like the raptors.

jhoshea (scoopsnoodle), Thursday, 8 February 2007 19:54 (eighteen years ago)

Taking Most Valuable Player literally, yeah, he should be considered for the honor.

Chesty Joe Morgan (Chesty Joe Morgan), Friday, 9 February 2007 00:03 (eighteen years ago)

Playing in a non-traditional market, with a team who has been a bit of a joke the past few seasons, Bosh still doesn't get the respect he deserves from the US media. The world will soon know what many of us already do. This kid is for real!

J-rock (Julien Sandiford), Friday, 9 February 2007 06:51 (eighteen years ago)

Oh come on I like Chris Bosh a lot, but do you guys think that maybe he (like the rest of his conference) doesn't get any respect because they play in the pee-wee league. The Raptors are 8-14 against the Western Conference (only two teams in the entire East are plus against the West!) That's the main reason why all the folks who get MVP are in the West and guys like Bosh get forgotten.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 9 February 2007 07:46 (eighteen years ago)

no, bosh gets no respect cause he plays in canada, he's never won, he hasn't been around that long and he has no personality.

lebron and wade, for example, both play in the east.

jhoshea (scoopsnoodle), Friday, 9 February 2007 17:56 (eighteen years ago)

And, um, LeBron is LEBRON, and Wade just won a title.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 9 February 2007 18:09 (eighteen years ago)

If the Raptors make the playoffs this year, people will learn the dude's name. He's only 22, calm down.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Friday, 9 February 2007 18:10 (eighteen years ago)

uh they play in the east isn't this supposed to hamper their celebrity?

xp

jhoshea (scoopsnoodle), Friday, 9 February 2007 18:14 (eighteen years ago)

Lebron plays in Cleveland, media capital of the western world!

polyphonic (polyphonic), Friday, 9 February 2007 18:21 (eighteen years ago)

Why do you think the NBA rigged that draft?

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 9 February 2007 18:27 (eighteen years ago)

If the Raptors make the playoffs this year, people will learn the dude's name.

WHEN the Raptors make the playoffs. When.

They beat the Lakers last night, and Bosh had 29 points compared to Kobe's 25.

They lost by a single point to the Mavericks a couple weeks ago, and by just two to the Suns early in January. That was only because Nash exploded and scored 13 of his 15 points in the 4th quarter.

They can play with the best teams in either conference. Their record is still somewhat misleading.

F*CK the Haterz!

J-rock (Julien Sandiford), Saturday, 10 February 2007 04:36 (eighteen years ago)

It was the same garbage back when the Blue Jays were winning. Even after the first World series, they got no respect. They had to go and win the thing the whole thing the next year as well before people gave them their due.

J-rock (Julien Sandiford), Saturday, 10 February 2007 04:38 (eighteen years ago)

apologies for the state of that last post, but indignation doesn't make for good grammar.

J-rock (Julien Sandiford), Saturday, 10 February 2007 04:57 (eighteen years ago)

It doesn't have anything to do with being in Toronto. Vince Carter was a star almost immediately. Bosh just isn't all that flashy. I mean, it's been a long time and Tim Duncan still isn't a star, you know?

polyphonic (polyphonic), Saturday, 10 February 2007 09:24 (eighteen years ago)

Jeff. (Jeff), Saturday, 10 February 2007 15:49 (eighteen years ago)

Carter's a punk. Incredibly talented, but not the type of guy to take a team to the next level.

J-rock (Julien Sandiford), Sunday, 11 February 2007 09:26 (eighteen years ago)

if you add carter to any team, he will undoubtedly take them to the next level - he's really good.

Crab Dribble (Clay), Thursday, 8 January 2009 09:28 (sixteen years ago)

Also it will be criminal if Devin Harris isn't on the easts bench

Crab Dribble (Clay), Thursday, 8 January 2009 09:30 (sixteen years ago)

Yao has been really good this year! Apparently *Chris Paul* is like number 8 guard in the West after like T-Mac etc which whatever, okay.

Gravel Puzzleworth, Thursday, 8 January 2009 10:55 (sixteen years ago)

lol, yi is still apparently 3rd in east forward voting. leads bosh by A LOT.

the fierce urgency of YAOOOOWWWWWWWW (m bison), Friday, 9 January 2009 00:40 (sixteen years ago)

All-Star games in every sport are just featherweight exhibitions put on for the star-struck fans. Watching one is only entertaining in a freak show kind of way.

However, getting named to a team used to be an honor from one's peers. Now it is mostly a reflection of fan ignorance. Consequently, the honor has depreciated a lot, but the "stars" have to pretend otherwise.

I voted for a dancing bear for all-star power forward in the East. Too late I thought of voting for a boxing kangaroo.

Aimless, Friday, 9 January 2009 21:54 (sixteen years ago)

The ASG is an exhibition! The long and short of its ontological purpose is to showcase ridiculous spectacle with the occasional human interest narrative, not some valuation of worth as determined by pure rationalism. Or would you like the ASG to determine which conference gets home-court in the finals?

Leee, Friday, 9 January 2009 22:53 (sixteen years ago)

haha, leee, are you actually butthurt by the fact that american fans don't want to see a below average nba player in the allstar game on the basis of there being a fucking ton of chinese people voting for him?

circles, Saturday, 10 January 2009 00:31 (sixteen years ago)

Whatevs, chum, I don't have any particular Yen to see Yi, even if we're from the same tribe, it's the tardo complaining about merits for an exhibition that has all the weight and importance of the dingleberries hanging from my buttox. I mean, if you want to complain about something meaningful, make it MLB's ASG.

Leee, Saturday, 10 January 2009 02:29 (sixteen years ago)

the game doesn't mean anything in and of itself, but having the label of "all star" gives a player a certain cache and the fans voting in jokers mucks it all up.

hope this helps (Granny Dainger), Saturday, 10 January 2009 05:18 (sixteen years ago)

wtf it's always been for fans and if fans want to see Yi then wth can blame them, besides you doofii.

Had honestly never thought of this, kind of agree now!

Gravel Puzzleworth, Saturday, 10 January 2009 22:37 (sixteen years ago)

So 1.6 billion fans suddenly can't bestow this cachet on a player because they somehow don't count?

So 1.6 billion fans suddenly can't bestow this cachet on a player because they somehow don't count?

"somehow" like it's a big mystery why their votes should mean even less than a normal casual fan's popularity-based vote. I mean at least the casual fan's vote has SOME basis in basketball skill/performance reality. If the fans want to see Yi, fine yeah, they should get to see him. The title of "All Star" holds even less worth as a consequence is all.

hope this helps (Granny Dainger), Sunday, 11 January 2009 00:15 (sixteen years ago)

The title of "All Star" holds even less worth as a consequence is all.

d00d, I have you on my fantasy team and you're almost single-handedly keeping me from last place, but arguing about AS worth like it means anything is retardo montalbon.
