want the mavs to win but think heat will. hedge it by going mavs in seven I guess

dayo, Friday, 27 May 2011 03:52 (fourteen years ago)

so far my picks have royally blew, but i think the heat got this. in six.

marc gasloi (symsymsym), Friday, 27 May 2011 04:02 (fourteen years ago)

would like to see all the ringless allstars on the mavs win it tho

marc gasloi (symsymsym), Friday, 27 May 2011 04:03 (fourteen years ago)

MAVS IN 6 DIRK IS THE ONE LEG GERMAN DEITY

ice cr?m, Friday, 27 May 2011 05:31 (fourteen years ago)

rooting for mavs, but idk how good i feel about their chances... since its the nba the evil team will most likely win

this is an excellent rule of thumb, i would have won a lot of money if i had bet accordingly in the last ten years

marc gasloi (symsymsym), Friday, 27 May 2011 07:12 (fourteen years ago)

yeah what is it about the nba and evil

ban drake (the rapper) (max), Friday, 27 May 2011 13:59 (fourteen years ago)

i am stoked 4 the finals ya'll

am0n, Friday, 27 May 2011 14:30 (fourteen years ago)

me too. not sure who to root for though. bosh is an angel among flop artists. but then again dirk is birdtron3030. should be pretty classic

reggie (qualmsley), Friday, 27 May 2011 19:49 (fourteen years ago)

What does that mean ^

I am excited for the finals too but honestly have no real foundation to hang an argument on. Just so many factors at play and mismatches everywhere.

I'm just going on my gut here and saying Mavs in 6, mainly cos that's what I want to happen.

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Friday, 27 May 2011 20:08 (fourteen years ago)

I know we're supposed to throw out the regular season stuff for the playoffs...but lebron really didn't have good games against the mavs this year, and the heat haven't beaten the mavs since the '06 finals. Also, not having seen the heat much this year, I was surprised to learn that they're not all that great at getting points in the paint? seems odd

Dominique, Friday, 27 May 2011 20:10 (fourteen years ago)

I am thinking Mavs in 6 but will hold off voting to keep pointlessly conjecturing in my head.

I am not liking the prospects of Kidd guarding Wade

I have access to a gift card (rip van wanko), Friday, 27 May 2011 20:27 (fourteen years ago)

If only the Mavs had a Bruce Bowen/James Posey on there roster. Stevenson is arguably the best lock down defender the Mavs have but that's not saying much.
Dirk must go ape shit, I mean average like 35 pts in the series and the bench must do there part as well.
Carlisle is a great defensive coach and will give the Heat a lot of different looks, hopefully nullifying one of the big three for the entirety of the series (my money is on Bosh)
The Heat are great villains and I wish bad things happen to them but I reluctantly pick them to win in 6. May Bron Bron choke on the big stage *crosses fingers*.

wabi sabi, Friday, 27 May 2011 21:00 (fourteen years ago)

mavs depth and shooting heat 2 unguardables as opposed to 1 right? i dunno
generic 'in 7' and hope its the mavs, i still cant dredge up much heat hate but theyre getting to the annoying stage

tremendoid, Friday, 27 May 2011 21:28 (fourteen years ago)

What does that mean

impressed by bosh's 2 30 games and dirk too looking like larry bird come again. lebron is a flop artist, the heat got lots of o_O calls, especially down the stretch. should be a good match up

reggie (qualmsley), Friday, 27 May 2011 23:45 (fourteen years ago)

Haven't voted yet. I need to think. Think. THINK, d'ye hear!

Aimless, Saturday, 28 May 2011 00:47 (fourteen years ago)

heats

mississippi john hurt, but alabama john feeling okay (m bison), Saturday, 28 May 2011 00:52 (fourteen years ago)

The Heat bench is almost non-existent, while the Mavs bench has good depth. The Heat starters are young, with young legs, so this may not play a big role unless foul problems emerge so the Heat starters have to sit more minutes than they otherwise would.

The Mavs interior strength is good. If they attack the basket, the Heat may lose a lot of offensive rebounds and putbacks to them. But the Mavs aren't built around that approach, so they may not swing that way for the series.

I guess I'm going to say the Mavs take the chip, unless Bron and Wade have stratospheric performances and Dirk and Jason Terry have mediocre games. I'll guess I'll take the play-it-safe odds and say Mavs in six.

I sure hope the refs don't make this a controversial, ref-centered series. But I wouldn't put it past them.

Aimless, Saturday, 28 May 2011 01:04 (fourteen years ago)

heart says mavs, everything else says heat. though dayo has a point (in either this thread or the rolling playoffs) that the mavs DID sweep the lakers not long ago, so thy might be tougher than we even think. and I can't remember a game so far that the mavs have been out of.

voted mavs in 7 but I think it's probably more like heat in 6. also it has to unfortunately be said: refereeing could be a big deal. sure was in 06.

Clay, Saturday, 28 May 2011 02:08 (fourteen years ago)

refereeing has been pretty good so far in this playoffs, no? I mean I haven't been watching but there haven't been any uproars... yet. feel like Stern has 'called in the dogs' for now

dayo, Saturday, 28 May 2011 02:12 (fourteen years ago)

I mean pre-donaghy, the league could get away with something like the 06 finals in its quest to anoint the next jordan. but post-donaghy, and w/ the ubiquity of fan videos and basketball blogs and outraged bball nerds in general, I feel like any blatant ref manipulation would be sniffed out pretty quickly. the culture is such that people wouldn't find accusations of game-fixing by refs that hard to swallow if it happened again.

dayo, Saturday, 28 May 2011 02:13 (fourteen years ago)

'ricks in sicks.

EZ Snappin, Saturday, 28 May 2011 02:17 (fourteen years ago)

I wonder how many playoff series the heat have to win before "the other team is deeper" becomes a non-starter. I don't see how the mavs posses any greater depth 1-8 than the celtics or bulls. The heat have shown a knack for rendering role players irrelevant or worse. I don't expect Marion or Kidd or Peja or Barea to be consisting scoring forces over 5 or 6 or 7 games, as we saw with the supposed vaunted bulls bench. Terry is about on the level of Deng anyway and he was on lockdown all game but 1.

J0rdan S., Saturday, 28 May 2011 02:30 (fourteen years ago)

ehh terry is a much more consistent scorer than deng is

dayo, Saturday, 28 May 2011 02:38 (fourteen years ago)

well, we'll see. i think the mavs need a high scoring series, bcuz i think the heat are the best 'small ball' team in the nba

J0rdan S., Saturday, 28 May 2011 02:59 (fourteen years ago)

Nice that soon we can quit arguing about what we think will happen, Then we can just watch to see what actually happens.

Aimless, Saturday, 28 May 2011 03:54 (fourteen years ago)

terrys a professional scorer while deng cant at all create his own shot theyre literally nothing alike whatre u even talkin abt jordan! and bulls bench was vaunted for D which they played well fwiw - as for the heat lack of heat depth not being a factor it has absolutely been a factor, if they had any depth at all theyd never lose a game

ice cr?m, Saturday, 28 May 2011 06:39 (fourteen years ago)

in fact terrys play has been prob just as much as a factor in dallas run as dirk in a way considering he looked p cooked this year - dallas got a bunch of guys who started playing better once the playoffs hit which is kinda strange but just might work!

ice cr?m, Saturday, 28 May 2011 06:44 (fourteen years ago)

of course they could revert at any time!

ice cr?m, Saturday, 28 May 2011 06:45 (fourteen years ago)

who knows! its crazy!

ice cr?m, Saturday, 28 May 2011 06:45 (fourteen years ago)

i mean srsly if you look at the mavs they are not a championship caliber team and yet they lost three games total in the first three rounds

ice cr?m, Saturday, 28 May 2011 06:46 (fourteen years ago)

the bar for "championship caliber" doesn't seem all that high this yr

voting mavs in 6

he he he what would i not eat? (forksclovetofu), Sunday, 29 May 2011 04:29 (fourteen years ago)

been thinking abt this its imo totally reasonable that the heat are favored but i also think it could easily turn into a underdog win where people are like we shouldve seen that coming because of how well the mavs are playing, yet atm the focus has been whats wrong w/the teams they beat, i mean a lot of people had the lakers winning it all the the mavs SWEPT them at which point everything is abt whats wrong w/the lakers, same w/okc they couldnt get a shot off westbrook sucks etc, and portland was by far the most popular upset pick in the first round, the only thing all these series have in common is the mavs!

ice cr?m, Sunday, 29 May 2011 08:05 (fourteen years ago)

idk tho could go either way tho ;)

ice cr?m, Sunday, 29 May 2011 08:05 (fourteen years ago)

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 31 May 2011 02:57 (fourteen years ago)

feel like the series could go the way of the first bos/lal series - iirc everybody picked the lakers and then bos came out and won it in 6

when the road team wins its usually in 6 not 7 for obvs reasons

mavs in 4 3
heat in 4 1

We can eliminate these votes now.

Aimless, Sunday, 5 June 2011 18:04 (fourteen years ago)

heat in 6 5
mavs in 5 2
heat in 5 1

We can eliminate these, too. But 23 votes are still in contention, while only 12 are def wrong. Good show, ilh.

Aimless, Sunday, 12 June 2011 20:00 (fourteen years ago)

I am definitely wrong, and loving it.
