So hard cos they are basically opposites, minus the winning and being really good parts.

Also, Dirk was a late bloomer and KG was making heavy impact by his 2nd year.

kg:
19 during his first season
all universe defender
lead nba in rebounding 4 straight seasons
very good scorer, but always really had to work for it, imo. not "a natural"
excellent shooter for his size, but maybe relied on his j too much.
crazed intensity

dirk:
20 during his first season
average defender
unexceptional rebounder for his height
phenomenal scorer, and a go-to crunch time scorer in a way kg isn't
greatest 7 foot+ shooter of all time
stoicism w/ mouth hanging open

think dirk's lower-impact style is definitely aging better than kg's, but kg still aging remarkably well.

KG tallied some good assists #'s earlier in his career, too. better all-around player.

Dirk pwns everyone in head to head matchups.

Hard to argue that all-around it isn't KG, but Dirk is such an amazingly unique offensive force that he almost makes it close. Definitely both two of the best forwards ever.

only one of these dudes went on a walkabout to clear his head of media negativity and self-doubt and that's the ace of spades when comparing two individuals imo.

Because their games are so different, their measurements of success have to be quite different, too, making this a sort of apples to oranges situation. So, I took the safe path and voted for Muhammed Ali.

dirk's career has been more successful...but i guess that's pretty situational

the dude w/ the barea portrait looks like a cross b/w bj novak & erik spoelstra

i think i'd have to go w/ kg simply because at his peak KG could be a dominant scorer like dirk can (tho in a different fashion) but dirk's defensive/rebounding peak is not near KG's

that said, if you could assure me a great defensive/rebounding/athletic center i might take dirk

since PER doesn't take defense into account i think that's an incredibly strong argument for KG
