heat in 6 seems like the safe pick right?

i'll go out on a limb and say heat in 5

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 4 June 2013 15:41 (twelve years ago)

i say spurs in 6. what's vegas saying?

Heez, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 15:42 (twelve years ago)

i just don't see who on the spurs is guarding lebron -- danny green is too short and i don't think kawai has nearly the strength

duncan is also a decent match up for bosh and the heat should be able to go back to playing small

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 4 June 2013 15:44 (twelve years ago)

i could see parker taking two games on his own though, so smarter money is prob heat in 6

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 4 June 2013 15:44 (twelve years ago)

the spurs will do it w team d and kawai is just as strong as pg

Heez, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 15:50 (twelve years ago)

kawhi still makes me think lil bow wow snuck onto a basketball court

Like the contrasting ballet stylez here. Not sure if Bron will go down like a dying supernova, or if Spurs will overplay the olds too much early in the series and run out of gas first. Really looking forward to the first game, when Heat will spend the 1st half adjusting to a team that can embarrass them w/ passing.

Fuck the Heat, Spurs in 6.

pg couldn't guard lebron

but then again no one can guard lebron

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 4 June 2013 17:43 (twelve years ago)

lol is this thread named after my ballet life

joe smith avatar (agent hibachi), Tuesday, 4 June 2013 17:44 (twelve years ago)

there was classic typo where someone typed ballet instead of baller, cant remember the context tho

乒乓, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 17:46 (twelve years ago)

yeah having "someone who can guard lebron" is kind of a red herring in debates and maybe even detrimental to the team itself, no one actually stops lebron, and if you put someone out there for that purpose that player either

1) sucks at offense in the first place (tony allen, early thabo) so it's a wash, or
2) wears themselves out so much that they don't have enough left for their own offense (KD, PG)

k3vin k., Tuesday, 4 June 2013 17:46 (twelve years ago)

lol yes hibachi

k3vin k., Tuesday, 4 June 2013 17:47 (twelve years ago)

heh then on topic I have to miss game 1 bc out of town for ballet activities and will be watching on dvr friday but spurs in 7

joe smith avatar (agent hibachi), Tuesday, 4 June 2013 17:49 (twelve years ago)

The no one can stop LBJ thing can be just as easily flipped to no one can stop Tony Parker, ESPECIALLY no one on the Heat

why pee on the beat (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Tuesday, 4 June 2013 18:13 (twelve years ago)

it's not really about an individual player "stopping" LeBron so much as a defensive system forcing him out of his comfort zones afaict

i don't even have an internet (Hurting 2), Tuesday, 4 June 2013 18:15 (twelve years ago)

this is true

but also not being able to stop lebron james has graver consequences than not being able to stop tony parker

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 4 June 2013 18:15 (twelve years ago)

yeah system defense is always gonna work better to stop a great player than an individual i think

k3vin k., Tuesday, 4 June 2013 18:20 (twelve years ago)

also not just "stops" but making them take bad shots

i don't even have an internet (Hurting 2), Tuesday, 4 June 2013 18:20 (twelve years ago)

i mean there's no system or person that can stop lebron, it's sort of a moot discussion

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 4 June 2013 18:21 (twelve years ago)

he's too talented/smart

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 4 June 2013 18:21 (twelve years ago)

yeah I mean I'm just talking damage control, reducing his percentages a little

i don't even have an internet (Hurting 2), Tuesday, 4 June 2013 18:22 (twelve years ago)

Stopping wade and bosh seems to be the key

why pee on the beat (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Tuesday, 4 June 2013 18:25 (twelve years ago)

the question in this series as i see it is can the spurs force the heat to go big

lag∞n, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 21:03 (twelve years ago)

of course if wade n bosh arent healthy and cant play better its academic and the spurs will win easy

lag∞n, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 21:05 (twelve years ago)

cause they are a much better team than indy

lag∞n, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 21:05 (twelve years ago)

wade's health is one thing, but unless bosh's ankle is way more fucked than we think it is, he should be fine

duncan and splitter aren't exactly going to punish him physically

the question in this series as i see it is can the spurs force the heat to go big

― lag∞n, Tuesday, June 4, 2013 5:03 PM (3 minutes ago) Bookmark

yeah, see i think this is the spurs problem. their lineup is much better small to me (parker-green-manu-kawhi-duncan) than big, but i don't know if you wanna play small with the heat

then again, i don't think it's impossible that the spurs could go small vs the heat and just outshoot them. parker/green/manu/kawhi should be a better shooting trio than any four the heat can come up with.

i don't think the heat are that scared of having to guard splitter or diaw. i wouldn't be surprised if diaw barely sees the floor in this series cuz he's an obvious player for the heat to hide someone on, and there's no way that guy is gonna wanna chase battier around screens

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 4 June 2013 21:09 (twelve years ago)

as for that ECSF obviously lebron laid an egg in game 6, and while game 7 was not his best game, he had like 17 rebounds and 10 assists and also held paul pierce to 4/13 shooting. what makes lebron transcendent is that even when he has an off game offensively he still dominates in other ways

I don't recall him being horrible that game, but ugh 9 TOs cannot happen in a closeout game. But what really sticks out in my mind is his (and his team's) bizarre behavior right near the end. I've never seen an NBA team outright quit w/time left on the clock, not even in a relatively meaningless game January. I was flabbergasted.
Likewise he had a pretty decent lil game in game 6 in 2011 Finals, but for discussion of "greatest ever" that performance in a closeout Finals game at home is very underwhelming.

so if Heat don't get wild rebound, LeBron doesn't then hit a 3, then they don't get another wild rebound, and doesn't Ray hit a 3...LeBron ends up with one less ring in his career. Say he would wind up with 5 instead of 6. Since per Lord Jord we can't judge a player's career by 15 possessions let alone 2, doesn't it seem wrong to tally up accomplishments which can be swayed so easily by a possession here or there?

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Saturday, 22 June 2013 07:04 (twelve years ago)

I'm glad Tracy McGrady didn't get a cheap ring.

well you're putting a lot of stock into what you admit are events based in a large part on good fortune, so think about that a minute

I am? I'm not one who judges a players *gag* legacy mainly on number of rings. I'm arguing against putting a lot of stock in these events, so think about that for a minute.

two months pass...

The Pistons didn't "shut him down", no, but they did cause him to play at a much lower level than usual. Albeit, one that was still higher than 95% of the league, but prevented him from taking over games as he usually did, and with his team a bit more limited talent-wise than they would be a few years later, that was often enough to knock them back.

His Bulls lost to the Pistons THREE YEARS IN A ROW in the ECF
