Now that Mike Leach(notes) has been fired by Texas Tech, and Al Davis is probably a few days away from whipping out the ol’ overhead projector for the inevitable press conference to fire Tom Cable, has anyone considered the notion that this could be a professional marriage made in heaven? That’s right – Mike Leach as the next coach of the Raiders, and I am being completely serious. Think about it: The Raiders have an abysmal offense and are trying to salvage the career of a former No. 1 overall draft pick, quarterback JaMarcus Russell. Leach is an innovative offensive mind who has made prolific passers out of far less talented QBs. Davis is a big-time meddler, but he has also worked best with headstrong head coaches who aren’t afraid to be their own men. Leach, as recent events confirm, would fit that mold. Further, as Leach proved this week, he, too, is not afraid to lawyer up, and both will soon be intimately familiar with the nuances of the term ”with cause.” Finally, Leach has a well-documented thing for pirates. Can you imagine how much he’d fun he’d have in an eye patch?

I would support this move 100%.

If this gets us closer to firing the punter and going for it, then I'm all for it. Could be the first big step towards finally having Mutant League football.

i had this debate the other day, during that eagles-cowboys debacle, because an announcer (poss buck) said something that intimated that one of these teams might just FOLD had they lost the game. long debate, in that if the eagles folded, would it be the panthers or the giants who would then be put in the playoffs (decision: panthers) etc etc but really, shouldn't it be the raiders?

Gannon like many Raider fans is gloomy about the status of the Silver & Black. And since he has emotional ties to a team that he helped build into a winner, why not help out in any capacity?

The former league MVP offered his services to the troubled franchise and their bust to be passer and they not only denied it, they piled on impudence to the genuine offer.

Said Gannon on Sirius Blitz on Satellite radio:

“You know, it’s amazing. You try just to reach out to somebody and say something, that maybe you can help a young guy, and you get criticized for it. … I’m not looking for work. Then Al Davis’ crony John Herrera piled on stating, “It’s Rich that needs the help.”

He continued, “When he goes on a radio show offering Mr. [Al] Davis help, Tom Cable help, the Raiders help, maybe it’s Rich that needs the help.”

I want to change my "most fucked team" vote.

John Herrera is the only person in the Raiders organization who is more deluded than Davis.

The fact that he calls him "Mr. Davis" totally disturbs me.

After months of gross negotiations between craven billionaires, what was all but official is reportedly one step closer to being actually official: the Oakland Raiders are preparing to file relocation papers for their move to Las Vegas, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.

The NFL gave the Raiders a window of about five weeks to file for relocation—from their playoff elimination last weekend to February 15. After their paperwork is submitted, the team will need approval from three-fourths of NFL owners to make the move a reality. That vote should come this spring.

The news comes three months to the day after the Nevada State Assembly approved a bill raising taxes to help pay for a new NFL stadium. That tax increase will give the Raiders a record $750 million in public money for the proposed $1.9 billion stadium, with casino tycoon Sheldon Adelson chipping in a reported $650 million of his own to help cover the rest. (Though the Raiders have promised the NFL that they have commitments from Goldman Sachs to cover Adelson’s share if he pulls out, which is a possibility that Adelson has discussed in his up-and-down negotiations with team owner Mark Davis.) The Raiders will be responsible for the remaining $500 million for the stadium, almost none of which will come from the team itself—a sizable loan from the NFL, plus the sale of new personal seat licenses, will take care of much of that.

honestly i would MAAAAYBE consider this contract with belechick but 10 years for any coach just seems insane, like even good coaches things can get stale, like I dunno, tom coughlin or someone like that who did great things and was a good coach it just felt like the air had gone out of the thing

Don’t think Pierce will be back. Sports talk was about Rich Gannon calling for his firing and from what they were saying on the show, he is usually a big Raiders cheerleader who usually does not go negative on the team.
