If the Pac-10 goes to 16 teams, I'd like to listen in on the meetings when they tell Arizona they're being put in the Pac-16 East with Texas et al.

yeah I mean this can be considered a step towards a playoff in the sense that it gets rid of the 'we must keep the rose bowl sacred' argument.

Oh yeah, it definitely levels the field now in terms of competitiveness.

i LOVE Nebraska to the Big Ten, just love it!!! Gives Big Blue a chance to kick their ass continually over the bullshit "split" championship. And keep it right there, 12 teams is perfect, it solves the 11 imbalance since Penn State.

Missouri is the stepchild with attitude problems that no one wants. I heard that even if the Big XII didn't crumble, they were going to kick out Missouri anyway.

I love Missouri. feisty, always somewhat competitive school (when they are not freakingly right in there for the National Championship), I like their competitiveness in the last decade or so, they have been great. So, BRING THEM IN :)

it makes total sense ... MAP-WISE ... then the 'Big-Ten' really does OWN the Midwest/Great-Plains

But, with just Missouri, it is unbalanced again, with 13 teams. That's why I say --- go for SYRACUSE next!!! holy crap, that would be awesome, especially when you think about the Basketball implications over the Football implications

plus if they did that -- Nebraska, Syracuse, Missouri -- you would create this 14 team conference that would create a MASSIVE oil-spill like splotch across the entire Midwest and Great Lakes ... It looks like a BEAUTIFUL conference to me in theory.

All of this conference shuffling has me actually excited for the college season for the first time in awhile.

like, schools are supposedly fleeing the big 12 because more money could be made elsewhere, and now all of a sudden the big 12 minus nebraska would be as profitable as the sec? idk

well pretty much basketball cuz no one pays attention until the tourney -- no one pays attention to the other sports anyway

also kinda funny how texas is totally at the center of this - they could save the big 12 or make 1 of 3 other conferences very happy - but they are gonna be in a great position (money + the players) no matter *what* happens. if I were UT I'd prolly stay put and continue the "if we beat oklahoma and a bunch of so-so teams, we go to the national championship game" strategy. money isn't everything.

This frees them up to continue developing LONGHORN TV, as well.

But surely the Big Ten will finally have to change their name, right? Eleven teams sort of provided an excuse to keep the old name, but now they have twelve. And now the Big 12 will have ten. Name swap?

well, the game's not over yet and the big 12 might be more like the big 6 or the big 3 or the big 0. though it would be hilariously confusing if the two switched names.

I don't see their potential Pac-10 competition being any tougher than the Big 12.

Pure speculation on my part, but they'd likely be in the Pac 10 east with Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Utah/Texas A&M, Colorado, Texas Tech, Arizona, and Arizona State.

right, and in that scenario they'd be playing the schedule they already play + a harder championship game. pac 10 west is gonna field at least one legit challenger a year.

and hell that's a harder schedule than they have right now

if the big 12 stays at 10 teams they'll obviously have to split up texas & oklahoma for there to be any sort of divisional balance, and that obv hurts both teams, as one can overcome a loss to the other when it happens early in the season (i.e. 2008) but def not when it happens in a potential conference title game

they were a bit overrated anyhow -- last year they got trounced by boise & stanford, lost to ohio st (who wasn't that good to begin with) & "made" their season by beating a usc team that was barely one of the 25 best in the country
