ok I am very concerned about this subject because a lot of my colleagues are reeeeaaaal southern and obsessed with sec football like it is the most important thing in all the world. my college didn't even have a team! what can I do?!! they are trying to recruit me to root for this that or the other team but it's like, I am not planning road trips from DC to Tuscaloosa for tailgating, good grief.

Root for Boise State, obviously.

I live in the heart of Razorback Country, and I haven't been to a game in eight years. Why would you have to go to Tuscaloosa? They've got TVs in the District now, don't they?

I don't think being an SEC fan is a good idea

Unless these people are like REALLY hardcore from the swamps and forests of the south, they'll more than likely be okay with you just saying you appreciate the SEC for what it is: the strongest conference in college football. You don't have to pick a favorite team (and I tell you this as an Alabama fan since birth).

Oh, and one other thing: if these ARE indeed Alabama fans you're working with, just tell them you hate the Vols. That will endear you with them much more than picking a team to like.

we have some alabama, auburn, south carolina, vanderbilt, florida.. oh i have a friend who went to arkansas too. no tennessee as far as i know!

they're not actually inviting me to tuscaloosa, but it's like if i had the money and vacation time, would i spend it traveling to a college football game? hells no! i don't understand this.

I've never been a tailgater type, but I understand the appeal of the idea. I even understand the compulsion to travel to participate in such a thing. It is SO MUCH more intense than anything the NFL has to offer. Even cities who worship their teams like Green Bay and Oakland have nothing that compares to a Saturday morning at any SEC school before a football game.

It is crazy and most fans know this.

Green Bay's crazy with its season tickets, but it's a routine thing for people here to donate thousands to the Razorback Foundation just so they can get a seat between the 40s instead of the 30s.

I personally don't get it, but like Lent fasters and people who release their own 8-tracks, I respect it.

This Auburn/MSU game is a little bonkers.

I hate that I'm about to have to change the channel.
