well then

@AdamSchefter: Boston PD has located red SUV with RI plates it was looking for as identified in July 2012 homicide. Hernandez rented it.

i don't think hernandez is a psychopath or anything... just a guy with a terrible combination of anger, hubris and stupidity

i mean the guy rented multiple cars IN HIS OWN NAME that he used in murders

i'm wondering about how they found this rental car, why it took so long to find it...is all this coming from unearthed witnesses rolling over on him?

christmas candy bar (al leong), Friday, 28 June 2013 00:40 (eleven years ago) link

probably found his diary

Neanderthal, Friday, 28 June 2013 00:59 (eleven years ago) link

Colleague at work leans into my doorway this morning: "so... it turns out I'm neighbors with Aaron Hernandez". Me: "what?". She: "apparently he was renting one of the units at our complex. There was a black Hummer sitting in the parking lot, and they just towed it away".

collardio gelatinous, Friday, 28 June 2013 01:14 (eleven years ago) link

They've probably gotten access to his credit card records and can track all his car rentals back for a few years and isolate VINs.

I’ve known Matt Light a long time and I have never - and I mean NEVER - heard him speak ill of another player, not even a defensive linemen like the New York Giants’ Osi Umenyiora with whom his classic battles in the NFL trenches have included some extra-curriculars after the whistle.

But Tuesday when I asked the former New England Patriot star tackle about his old teammate - tight end Aaron Hernandez - his easy smile quickly vanished and he went silent for several seconds as he decided what, if anything, he would say.

“I never talk about other guys, but I will say I have never embraced - never believed in - anything Aaron Hernandez stood for,” Light finally said.

what does that mean, what did hernandez stand for

am0n, Friday, 28 June 2013 17:29 (eleven years ago) link

shooting ppl, apparently

DJP, Friday, 28 June 2013 17:29 (eleven years ago) link

shootings which came to light a week ago, he always stood for them

am0n, Friday, 28 June 2013 17:31 (eleven years ago) link

stood for not returning rental cars apparently

yeah i guess my question is wouldn't they have been able to figure it out before, if the car had been sought for awhile? maybe i'm misreading this part of the story. either way i wonder how many other people he may have actually murdered.

christmas candy bar (al leong), Friday, 28 June 2013 17:56 (eleven years ago) link

probably combed twitter looking for victims

Neanderthal, Friday, 28 June 2013 17:58 (eleven years ago) link

sounds like he adheres to the 'homie is that my briefcase' method of execution

christmas candy bar (al leong), Friday, 28 June 2013 18:01 (eleven years ago) link

hahaha, the patriots are doing a hernandez jersey amnesty. bring your hernandez jersey in on july 6 or 7 and swap it for a player who is less likely to be a murderer. that is classic. really though, you gotta keep it. this would almost be on a par with when i returned my nirvana tour ticket for a refund :/

Roberto Spiralli, Friday, 28 June 2013 20:29 (eleven years ago) link

I'm not gonna lie, when this all broke I was this close to buying Hernandez jerseys to sell on eBay

big black nemesis, Puya chilensis (DJP), Friday, 28 June 2013 20:31 (eleven years ago) link

patriots aren't even bothering to do the whole 'he'll have his day in court' façade are they

Neanderthal, Friday, 28 June 2013 20:37 (eleven years ago) link

i am hugely averse to anything that perpetuates the assumed guilt/trial by media bullshit so it sucks how this went down, but it was totally in character for the organization and you don't know what else they knew about him. maybe the matt light thing points to something substantive, maybe it's a 30-something white midwesterner talking about a young hispanic dude. there is no great sense of shock emanating from the environs of gillette stadium tho. i've yet to hear anyone say "he was the last person you would expect to do something like this".

Roberto Spiralli, Friday, 28 June 2013 20:46 (eleven years ago) link

probably stems from when light asked aaron how his offseason went and he showed him execution-style murder pics.

Roberto Spiralli, Friday, 28 June 2013 20:51 (eleven years ago) link

light didn't embrace what he saw nor did he, for the record, snitch on him

am0n, Friday, 28 June 2013 20:58 (eleven years ago) link

there must've been some major locker room issues or some kind of disconnect from his teammates that belichick kept in house, idk.

christmas candy bar (al leong), Friday, 28 June 2013 21:06 (eleven years ago) link

Hernandez was the only guy in the locker room who wouldn't participate in Belichick's pre-game puppy-eating ritual

i feel like at this point it's clear that dude got away with so many murders/attempted murders that he thought nothing of leaving an almost unprecedented amount of circumstantial evidence

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 3 July 2013 18:42 (eleven years ago) link

Hernandez is acclimating well to jail and was moved Monday from the medical unit, where he's been closely watched since arriving, to a different unit.

eh?

how's life, Wednesday, 3 July 2013 18:46 (eleven years ago) link

in audio interview, they made it clear that the medical unit is private. SOP was probably to make sure he wasn't a suicide risk and do a psych eval and also to keep him out of gen pop until they were able to acclimate prison staff to understand how to deal with having a celebrity inmate. Don't think he has any medical issues.

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nfl--vigilante-takes-to-ebay-to-thwart-auctioning-of-aaron-hernandez-s-jersey-003126864.html

idgi, was this dude creating sock accounts to drive the price up? cos if not, every auction gives the seller the option to sell to the second (or third, or fourth, all the way down the line) highest bidder...so um, not a very effective bit of trolling. And no matter what you set your max bid at, eBay only sets your current bid at the max required to win (unlike the old old days where it was actually possible to bid against yourself).
