As Ross Tucker mentioned today, the Patriots have a horrible record when it comes to drafting CBs and WRs.

what the hell is this sentence in the RS hernandez article
But Beli-chick, the winner of three Super Bowl titles and grand wizard of the greatest show on turf, had decided long before he got to New England that such niceties were beneath him.

all the way thru the article i was thinking wow, this is chock full of bullshit. then i saw yday ppl were saying this was the kind of low-grade fare typical of the borges guy, who i guess is on the globe but i have never even heard of him
― Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, 29 August 2013 14:57 (eleven years ago) link
yeah 'he'd drive away from the games smoking 3 or 4 blunts', ok uh

Also, Mike Martz would probably be surprised to learn that Belichick was secretly coaching the Rams way back when.

― call all destroyer, Thursday, 29 August 2013 15:32 (eleven years ago) link
ron borges got run out of the boston globe for plagiarism and is well-known for having a grudge against belichick that defies all logic and reason. even by sportwriter standards he's an incredibly shitty person.

rs--you'll appreciate that the rumored origin of borges's insanity is that when he was a beat writer in the late 90s/early 00s his big source in the pats locker room was drew bledsoe. when drew got benched he never got over it.
this is much more irresponsible of rolling stone than the glammy marathon bomber cover.

That RS article is fantastic / awful, and this piece goes a way in explaining which parts were which: http://www.bostonsportsmedia.com/2013/08/plagiarist-ruins-perfectly-good-rolling-stone-feature
And is "Beli-chick" a typo or just weird toothless dig that Borges employs when he's talking about Belichick?

Fells and Ballard released. so week 1 TE group looks to be Sudfeld and Hoomanawanui. here's hoping Sudfeld is actually as good as he has looked at times.
― Roberto Spiralli, Friday, 30 August 2013 22:23 (eleven years ago) link
i assume gronk is coming back soon then?
i knew ballard was gone when he wasn't finishing his routes late in the game last night.
― call all destroyer, Saturday, 31 August 2013 00:51 (eleven years ago) link

― Roberto Spiralli, Saturday, 31 August 2013 01:00 (eleven years ago) link
trying to go 6 weeks with 2 tight ends would be insane even by patriots standards. tho i guess there's a rumbling that they might re-sign fells after week 1 for less money.

― Panaïs Pnin (The Yellow Kid), Saturday, 31 August 2013 15:56 (eleven years ago) link
i have come to wonder if perhaps the primary reason the patriots signed tebow in the first place was not as a player but as a sober buddy, life coach and lifeline for aaron hernandez, who by most accounts they knew was spiraling out of control. it would make a lot of sense. and if that's the case, the murder -- just one week after they signed tebow -- literally left tebow with no role on the team, which would have made the next couple of months mighty awkward, which they may well in fact have been. in that last preseason game, he looked thoroughly unprepared to be the patriots' second- or third-string quarterback, or anyone's second- or third-string quarterback.
and yet i find all the talk about how his nfl career is clearly over to be way premature. he's a competitor, he's got incredible desire, character of course, and some very obvious football skills unrelated to throwing a ball to a human target. he ain't done.
― fact checking cuz, Saturday, 31 August 2013 22:43 (eleven years ago) link
in the nfl? i have to assume he's done as a quarterback.
― YOU FOOLS PAY OVER $2.50 for a comic book (forksclovetofu), Saturday, 31 August 2013 22:45 (eleven years ago) link
and speaking of that last preseason game, tom brady appeared to spend the entirety of it gabbing with julian edelman on the sidelines. there's your third-string qb right there if you really need one.
― fact checking cuz, Saturday, 31 August 2013 22:47 (eleven years ago) link
(xp) i ain't no coach but the dude is smart and inspirational and can run the football and could probably be a perfectly good clipboard-holding backup qb for some second division nfl team somewhere. right? right???
― fact checking cuz, Saturday, 31 August 2013 22:49 (eleven years ago) link
fcc it's pretty well-documented that they tried using tebow to get through to hernandez at florida and it didn't accomplish anything
― call all destroyer, Saturday, 31 August 2013 22:53 (eleven years ago) link
i like the theory but i'm pretty sure it was just belichick seeing if he could work his magic
― J0rdan S., Saturday, 31 August 2013 22:53 (eleven years ago) link
also it's known that belichick has a persistent boner for urban meyer players so he was probably unable to stem his curiosity
― J0rdan S., Saturday, 31 August 2013 22:54 (eleven years ago) link
whatever qualities tebow has they are not sufficient for him to contribute in the nfl. there is no role for him except maybe goal line qb for a team that has a shitty qb anyway, or he would be great catching screen passes i bet. so basically the jets was the perfect spot for him and it still didn't work out. go gentle into that good night, timmy.
― Roberto Spiralli, Saturday, 31 August 2013 22:59 (eleven years ago) link
(xxxp) true but i'm not sure that would stop the patriots from trying. especially after (a) they spent $40 million on the guy and (b) he came to them crying for help (if you can believe the rolling stone story).
― fact checking cuz, Saturday, 31 August 2013 22:59 (eleven years ago) link
