the dolphins signed two new linebackers basically explicitly to do this and have already resorted to corners, safeties and a back up lb (jelani jenkins) who is long and lean like a tight end

i wonder if the cowboys would be interested in flipping sean lee for a late round pick...

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 7 October 2013 17:40 (eleven years ago) link

actually, in the realm of trades that are a little less pure fantasy, jason lacanfora had an article today about how the giants should have a firesale and rebuild which generally made sense. hackeem nicks is a guy with zero interest in playing for the giants and i would loooove to see him play for NE, i would go up to a 2nd for him although you shouldn't have to on this year's performance.

obviously a DT would be more help right now.

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 7 October 2013 17:43 (eleven years ago) link

as someone who has watched too many giants games this year (nyc!!) i would not advocate trading for anything above a fourth for hakeem nicks

maybe he really just is disinterested but he also looks like bigger/slower than half the tight ends in the league

J0rdan S., Monday, 7 October 2013 17:44 (eleven years ago) link

i honestly think he just doesn't care this season, i can't believe he has just fallen off. he is big but he does have pretty good speed, he has made some crazy plays on the outside in the past. i bet he can run block too, BB #1 wr criterion.

Mayo ended his season on a cheap shot on Sproles that didn't even raise a ref's eyebrow, just a drive or so after Malcolm Jenkins got flagged (and now fined) for incidental helmet contact. I really do feel for Pats fans re: the ridiculous injury pileup that your '13 season has become (as much as I can feel bad for a team that's still kicking ass), but afaic mayo's injury is just desserts.

sopoaga comes in for beans at DT. don't know that he is going to be anything but a large dude but that is certainly one thing currently absent. bigger news is that vollmer confirmed to IR. o-line depth is stretched to breaking now.

was thinking how funny it is that danny woodhead is the best player on the chargers offense outside of rivers. if edelman had been snapped up over the summer he would prob be in the same position somewhere (actually for much of the season so far he kind of has been that guy). patriots seem to have excelled in digging up or making these tricky, unflashy but productive utility players since faulk. vereen is just a premium version of this kind of player, i can't wait for him to stay fit for 2 games in a row.

When Sanchez watched the replay with some of his teammates, they were generally supportive. "Hopefully we'll laugh about it later," he said.[32] Moore remarked of the play's popularity, "The littlest things nowadays turn into Internet sensations. It's not surprising." When asked if he found the play amusing, Moore answered, "No."[14]

It's got to be rough being a Jets fan when the best thing you can point to about your club is a championship before you were born and stuff like the Buttfumble.

I guess there was the NY Sack Exchange, but then again for some fans - it's that before you were born.

my new favorite wikipedia article.

call all destroyer, Saturday, 23 November 2013 14:37 (ten years ago) link

i was reading that wikipedia article earlier today and just about cried laughing, that is amazing

The game and the so-called "butt fumble" in particular are remembered as the low point of the Jets' 2012 season.

When the fumble occurred, Moore was not aware that his buttocks had caused it; he learned of his role only after the game.

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said of Gregory's recovery of the fumble, "it was just a good scoop-and-score play."

On the ensuing kickoff, Jets return specialist Joe McKnight fumbled; the Patriots' Julian Edelman recovered the fumble in mid-air, and returned it 22 yards for yet another touchdown.

By the two-minute warning before half time, the score was 35–0, and the stadium loudspeakers played "It Ain't Over 'til It's Over". Fireman Ed left the game before halftime, and he would retire his role as the team's unofficial mascot following the game.

Including the butt fumble, Sanchez lost the ball 24 times in the 2011 and 2012 seasons.

Every Friday, SportsCenter has a "Not Top-10" blooper reel segment, culminating in the "Worst of the Worst" play, which is voted on by fans online. The butt fumble won Worst of the Worst for 40 straight weeks, usually by a landslide.

On September 6, 2013, ESPN retired the butt fumble from "Worst of the Worst" after going undefeated for 40 weeks.

On September 29, 2013, the "butt fumble" label was again applied to a buttock-related fumble by a Jets quarterback.
