lol bill just spent like 5 minutes explaining the concept of preseason football to some reporter who asked a dumbass question about whether this game mattered more because they were playing against a playoff team.

so garoppopolopolopolo looks great and the team pretty good in general I gather?

Matt Armstrong, Saturday, 23 August 2014 19:08 (ten years ago) link

yeah i try to pay no attention to preseason but vibes are good.

i did see jimmy g's td throw last night, he made a super subtle adjustment to avoid the rush and stuck the throw to the fb.

reading an article on the patriots news blog about perceptions of ridley after mike reiss left him off his latest depth chart guess (altho i think reiss was implying they would look to trade him rather than cut him). article itself not illuminating: notes few long runs, glosses over 4.6 YPC, confirms he fumbles a lot.

then first two comments
#1 bring back bjge
#2 swap ridley for lg blount

i'm pretty sure this is a film about what directions you're supposed to run in.

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 25 August 2014 19:13 (ten years ago) link

nowadays, most football stadia are built on a slant, and you have to have a rb who can take advantage of that for 2 quarters.

idk how much ilnfl patritos gang members have been keeping up with the east of the afc east this preseason but i keep seeing report on top of report that ej manual and geno smith and historically, amazingly bad. i have a feeling that it could be a fun season ahead #nohubris

ej manual lol

Roberto Spiralli, Wednesday, 27 August 2014 14:28 (ten years ago) link

lol at the mistakes in that post. ok, for clarity:

currently watching the ny jets edition of hard knocks and things are looking good for at least a superbowl appearance this season, harmony in the camp, momentum very much with them, sanchez ready to step up to that elite tier

Nothing less than the Spirit of the Age (nakhchivan), Wednesday, 27 August 2014 15:28 (ten years ago) link

the bills are going to be a complete disaster.

i thought geno was supposed to be doing ok? i don't pay much attention to camps so i am probably mistaken.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 27 August 2014 15:38 (ten years ago) link

xp that was one of the seasons they reached the afc championship game with sanchez. would definitely be worth a look back. a rare time capsule of the jets not being in total disarray.

Roberto Spiralli, Wednesday, 27 August 2014 15:43 (ten years ago) link

on geno i wouldn't rule out my being instinctively selective about the information i retain but as long as someone somewhere is trashing him i will rely on that authority

How much gas does Mankins have left in the tank? Is he gonna be a difference maker for the Bucs' line?

Fetchboy, Thursday, 28 August 2014 02:10 (ten years ago) link

he's got something left, he'll be pretty good. he's just not one of the best three guards in football anymore.

call all destroyer, Thursday, 28 August 2014 02:13 (ten years ago) link

i need to be careful with my thinking here but it seems like they've really found a player in jimmy g

need to cash brady in for a 4th round pick and a tight end before he loses his trade value

gostkowski was a good fourth round pick. he had some huge shoes to fill, and he has filled them as well as anyone could have hoped for.

Bob Smith · Haverhill High School
Where the he'll is the defense? Yeah a championship defense. .what till nextweekend we will be down 2 games. I love belicheck...maybe he needs to retire..the game is starting to pass him by...offense today unbelievably sucks..maybe Brady is sucking and time to RETIRE. .cause he SUCKS TODAY...

Roberto Spiralli, Sunday, 7 September 2014 21:07 (ten years ago) link

lol haverhill high school

call all destroyer, Sunday, 7 September 2014 21:35 (ten years ago) link

they were terrible today tho, up the middle pass protection and up the middle run defense cannot be continuing problems.

call all destroyer, Sunday, 7 September 2014 21:39 (ten years ago) link

last year, iirc, they tended to sleep thru first halves and play like themselves in second halves. looks like they figured out, this year, how to play like themselves in the first half.

fact checking cuz, Monday, 8 September 2014 00:57 (ten years ago) link

I missed this game; I am very, very sad about that

lol basically

call all destroyer, Monday, 8 September 2014 01:14 (ten years ago) link

wondering how long it will take brady and mcdaniels to discover that tim wright is on the team. i'm still not sure they're aware that danny amendola is on the team.

fact checking cuz, Monday, 8 September 2014 01:17 (ten years ago) link

no way wright knows the playbook well enough to be a lot of help; a couple of the plays where he got the ball today were pretty clearly feature plays for him

call all destroyer, Monday, 8 September 2014 01:20 (ten years ago) link

the pats will prob be fine imo i think it's possible the dolphins have one of the best d lines in the NFL

le goon (J0rdan S.), Monday, 8 September 2014 14:34 (ten years ago) link

i do think mcdaniels got way too pass happy though, even with that deficit there's no reason brady should've thrown the ball 60 something times. esp with a hobbled gronk the pats basically only have one good WR (ok this could be a problem) but a few pretty good backs.

le goon (J0rdan S.), Monday, 8 September 2014 14:35 (ten years ago) link

also mentioned this on the Week 1 thread, but the pats gave up a disgusting amount of penalty yards, many of which came in key situations. there were 2 or 3 drives that got totally deflated by ill-timed penalties.

odd proggy geezer (Moodles), Monday, 8 September 2014 14:45 (ten years ago) link

that one sack where wake beat hooman and ridley, it was like wake was superman and hooman was the revolving door, and ridley was an innocent bystander

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 8 September 2014 14:48 (ten years ago) link

that sack and the one that essentially ended the game after the dolphins TD, it looked like cam had been shot out of a cannon

le goon (J0rdan S.), Monday, 8 September 2014 14:50 (ten years ago) link

the offensive line looked bad but still feel like that's gonna be one of those things that's more a week 1 blip than a crippling deficiency if the starters can stay healthy

le goon (J0rdan S.), Monday, 8 September 2014 14:51 (ten years ago) link

the o-line looked really good in the first half is the thing, good protection and grinding that short yardage TD were real nice. NE moved the ball pretty well all half. i am guessing 2nd half was maybe conditions/conditioning and good adjustments by MIA, on top of questionable offensive playcalling. and yeah, the rare times they actually got a first down in the 2nd half it was called back for a pen.

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 8 September 2014 14:53 (ten years ago) link

brady also seemed like he had not seen his receivers all summer. i guess with groonk that is understandable. but he read the defense differently on those two big blown plays to gronk down the middle and edelman on the deep corner that he shortened into an out - and both times the receiver seemed to make the right adjustment and brady didn't.

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 8 September 2014 14:56 (ten years ago) link

thing is, you watch that game and see a game where the fins got to play the game how they wanted and did it very well and they and the pats combined to make the pats look pretty crappy, and then you watch josh mccown vs derek anderson right after and that is what you might call context
