gostkowski was a good fourth round pick. he had some huge shoes to fill, and he has filled them as well as anyone could have hoped for.

jeremy mincey is still kicking around the league i think.

call all destroyer, Saturday, 30 August 2014 19:03 (ten years ago)

so after all that Mallett was a bad pick

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 31 August 2014 21:01 (ten years ago)

tommy hurt his leg. initial panic rumours that it might be somewhat serious.

Bob Smith · Haverhill High School
Where the he'll is the defense? Yeah a championship defense. .what till nextweekend we will be down 2 games. I love belicheck...maybe he needs to retire..the game is starting to pass him by...offense today unbelievably sucks..maybe Brady is sucking and time to RETIRE. .cause he SUCKS TODAY...

Roberto Spiralli, Sunday, 7 September 2014 21:07 (ten years ago)

lol haverhill high school

call all destroyer, Sunday, 7 September 2014 21:35 (ten years ago)

they were terrible today tho, up the middle pass protection and up the middle run defense cannot be continuing problems.

call all destroyer, Sunday, 7 September 2014 21:39 (ten years ago)

last year, iirc, they tended to sleep thru first halves and play like themselves in second halves. looks like they figured out, this year, how to play like themselves in the first half.

fact checking cuz, Monday, 8 September 2014 00:57 (ten years ago)

I missed this game; I am very, very sad about that

next week: VIKINGS

stacked as fuck & imposing (DJP), Monday, 8 September 2014 01:02 (ten years ago)

I missed this game

so did the patriots.

fact checking cuz, Monday, 8 September 2014 01:13 (ten years ago)

lol basically

call all destroyer, Monday, 8 September 2014 01:14 (ten years ago)

wondering how long it will take brady and mcdaniels to discover that tim wright is on the team. i'm still not sure they're aware that danny amendola is on the team.

fact checking cuz, Monday, 8 September 2014 01:17 (ten years ago)

no way wright knows the playbook well enough to be a lot of help; a couple of the plays where he got the ball today were pretty clearly feature plays for him

call all destroyer, Monday, 8 September 2014 01:20 (ten years ago)

the pats will prob be fine imo i think it's possible the dolphins have one of the best d lines in the NFL

le goon (J0rdan S.), Monday, 8 September 2014 14:34 (ten years ago)

i do think mcdaniels got way too pass happy though, even with that deficit there's no reason brady should've thrown the ball 60 something times. esp with a hobbled gronk the pats basically only have one good WR (ok this could be a problem) but a few pretty good backs.

le goon (J0rdan S.), Monday, 8 September 2014 14:35 (ten years ago)

also mentioned this on the Week 1 thread, but the pats gave up a disgusting amount of penalty yards, many of which came in key situations. there were 2 or 3 drives that got totally deflated by ill-timed penalties.

odd proggy geezer (Moodles), Monday, 8 September 2014 14:45 (ten years ago)

that one sack where wake beat hooman and ridley, it was like wake was superman and hooman was the revolving door, and ridley was an innocent bystander

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 8 September 2014 14:48 (ten years ago)

that sack and the one that essentially ended the game after the dolphins TD, it looked like cam had been shot out of a cannon

le goon (J0rdan S.), Monday, 8 September 2014 14:50 (ten years ago)

the offensive line looked bad but still feel like that's gonna be one of those things that's more a week 1 blip than a crippling deficiency if the starters can stay healthy

le goon (J0rdan S.), Monday, 8 September 2014 14:51 (ten years ago)

the o-line looked really good in the first half is the thing, good protection and grinding that short yardage TD were real nice. NE moved the ball pretty well all half. i am guessing 2nd half was maybe conditions/conditioning and good adjustments by MIA, on top of questionable offensive playcalling. and yeah, the rare times they actually got a first down in the 2nd half it was called back for a pen.

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 8 September 2014 14:53 (ten years ago)

brady also seemed like he had not seen his receivers all summer. i guess with groonk that is understandable. but he read the defense differently on those two big blown plays to gronk down the middle and edelman on the deep corner that he shortened into an out - and both times the receiver seemed to make the right adjustment and brady didn't.

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 8 September 2014 14:56 (ten years ago)

thing is, you watch that game and see a game where the fins got to play the game how they wanted and did it very well and they and the pats combined to make the pats look pretty crappy, and then you watch josh mccown vs derek anderson right after and that is what you might call context

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 8 September 2014 15:02 (ten years ago)

the game in miami is always tough, i'm not taking much away from this.

rip patriots

lag∞n, Monday, 8 September 2014 15:59 (ten years ago)

can't complain too much today, except:

total points in second half this season: 6 (and all 6 of those points came on short drives set up by defense or special teams).

fact checking cuz, Sunday, 14 September 2014 21:08 (ten years ago)

Second week with tons of penalty yards

odd proggy geezer (Moodles), Sunday, 14 September 2014 22:51 (ten years ago)

it was a ridiculously overcalled game for both teams, i don't really care about it.

i have been following the advanced football analytics site this season as they have been getting some attention, in particular for their EPA measure, which tbh i don't know how convinced by i am.
http://www.advancedfootballanalytics.com/2010/08/glossary.html

anyhow, my reason for mentioning it here is that according to EPA the patriots have the 2nd worst offense in football thru 2 games after jaguars. the is the form of the championship years ppl!

love this

Tedy: I remember times when we might have had a lethargic practice in a week like this and he'd get on us for a lack of focus. "You think you're just going to roll your helmet out, with the Patriots logo, and those guys will lay down? Who do you think you are? You think you're going to win? Based on what? Based on what!!??" Then he would show lowlights from practice and he'd keep going. "Based on this effort, you think you're going to win? Based on this block, you think you're going to win? Based on this read in pass coverage that we missed, you think we're going to win?" In one respect, you love that about him. But it can beat you up at times too. I think what it comes down to is this: Sometimes the head coach has to make players hate him to get effort and focus out of them, to have them play with an edge. He did that.

i want to know why he never went home to CA in the summer

iirc, he played quarterback for a school in ann arbor.

i have every confidence that that is answering my question but it's not clear to me how. would be great if you could elaborate.

there's some stats on there that are literally the opposite of PFF's ratings so I don't know what to think about either

Matt Armstrong, Thursday, 18 September 2014 20:30 (ten years ago)

Michael Gallagher ‏@MikeSGallagher 41s

Josh McCown with a 1.0 YPA and a pick. Niiice. The ol' 0.0 passer rating

greg bedard pushing a rumor that mankins refused to renegotiate his contract because he didn't like the new offensive line coach.

lol?

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 18:14 (ten years ago)

looking like they shoulda listened to logan. read somewhere that PFF has solder as a bottom 5 tackle so far this year which means they have one o-lineman who can make a claim to competency right now and he is overdue his seasonal injury.

the greatest trick dante scarnecchia ever played was distracting us while a line of pro bowlers slowly changed into a line of chumps. it is kinda funny that when the line was at its best they had solid>great players everywhere except RT, and now they only have a RT!
