simmons piece was p good, i liked this analysis of the big play
Check out Butler walking up to Browner and warning him what’s coming.
Check out Browner foiling the pick play by jumping right into Kearse and holding him so he doesn’t pick Butler.
Check out Butler sprinting at warp speed to the exact spot where the ball was heading. He beat Seattle’s own receiver to the spot. Think about that for a second.

it was a great play for sure, regardless of the circumstances that is always going to be one of the best couple plays of any game, no more than that maybe but certainly no less. the defense diagnosed a tendency and the player made a terrific physical play on it.
― Roberto Spiralli, Wednesday, 4 February 2015 20:42 (nine years ago) link
butler's pass breakup on kearse earlier in that drive was textbook as well, idk if we'll ever hear from him again but he certainly seems to get how to play the position
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 4 February 2015 20:46 (nine years ago) link
i remember he was hyped in the offseason and then had a couple missed plays in the few times he showed up in the regular season that cooled things off. he has got to be worth having around for a while, he offers something different as CB depth vs the other guys, as demonstrated in the big game there. still not sure what i think of logan ryan and i know belichick loves arrington but he is super limited and can only be used in certain spots imo.

That's just rude. (Those two were playing at Oregon and Cal at the same time, though, right? Bad blood is old.)

"I think really Mike, nobody has done it better than you have. Having good people around you, having good assistants; our coordinators Coach [Josh] McDaniels and Coach [Matt] Patricia, Scott O’Brien on special teams, Nick Caserio, who runs our personnel department, those guys really do a great job," Belichick said. "They know what we want; we talk about it. Of course the game evolves a little bit from year to year, your team changes from year to year, but we kind of put together what we feel like gives us the best opportunity to work towards that end. "I try to manage that and not screw it up, but those guys do a great job of pulling it together and we’ve been together for a long time and that continuity has really enabled me, given me confidence to give them more decision-making ability, more responsibility, and that’s probably benefited the overall organization quite a bit.” “I’m not caught up as much in some of the details or micromanaging, maybe, that I did earlier in my career," Belichick said. "I have people that can probably do that a lot better than I can anyway, and I turn that over to them and they’ve done a great job with it. So it’s definitely an evolution and, of course, the game is changing all the time. I mean, five years ago in the NFL we weren’t even talking about read-options and reading defensive ends and stuff like that. We were reading safeties. You’ve got to be able to progress along with the schemes and the players that you’re working with as well, so that’s been a big part of it, too."

wow. really surprising considering bb's long history of letting good defensive backs walk away. i still hope they make a serious play to retain revis, and at this point nothing would surprise me.
