surprisingly little on process tho, really just allowing the sides to restate their respective cases, which for the nfl is just that cba = rog can do what he wants, which hasn't worked before but doesn't mean it won't work now.

latest brady judge quotes make it clear there is no way if he is forced to a ruling that the suspension will stand, even if you allow for some rhetoric with him trying to push the nfl towards settlement.
― Roberto Spiralli, Wednesday, 19 August 2015 18:15 (nine years ago) link
i will be sad when this is resolved whatever the outcome because it has been at least a little distraction from the miserable reality that the pats lost two gdamn draft picks over this weak shit

imo owners would be advised to keep this whole thing at arms length to avoid getting shit on their sports coat by association. for some i'm sure it is hard to suppress their glee at the stitch up.

i cant see how it would matter even if the league did appeal, which, like...god just let this die
that said it does allow the pats to soldier on like the automatons of corporate nobility kraft wants them to be, was kinda hoping this would make them into truly vicious heels who might actually be entertaining as a result

wait, they aren't?
― mookieproof, Thursday, 3 September 2015 14:37 (nine years ago) link
looking at comments from pats fans and can see cogs slowly but slowly turning as they realize that no the draft picks aren't coming back and kraft fucked them over by laying down on the team punishment

canyon between brady appealing as a player and the team fighting their part of course but the angry mob won't pick up on that
― Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, 3 September 2015 14:49 (nine years ago) link
xps mook i dunno, they're a team whose slogan last year was "do your job," that's pretty neutered and corporate imo, kraft's corrupt oligarch status is villainous but in the same banal fashion
like this is an absurd sport, it deserves more comic book villains in its repertoire, resurrect al davis imo

my Dolphins fan friends are treating this verdict like the Casey Anthony trial. idgi. this was the right decision all around.
You can't basically let the Vikings and Panthers do something similar and be all like "aight knock it the fuck off" and nothing more, then get advance warning about the Patriots do it and decide to ensnare them in a sting operation. Not to mention that no matter the suspicions, that Wells Report didn't prove a damn thing.

any legal experts wanna weigh in on the likelihood of the ruling being reversed on appeal?
― Hammer Smashed Bagels, Friday, 4 September 2015 01:22 (nine years ago) link
from what i've read the 2nd circuit is considered highly competent and is unlikely to overturn a reasonable ruling.

Goodell's been an unmitigated disaster, part of me wonders how well Tagliabue would have fared in this day and age. he definitely was too soft on discipline, Goodell's largely overcorrected but then just when you think he's just a stern disciplinarian that gets a little overzealous, he completely whiffs on the Ray Rice incident.
he didn't create most of the problems the league has now but he sure as shit hasn't really improved them either.
― Hammer Smashed Bagels, Friday, 4 September 2015 03:15 (nine years ago) link
I'd love to hear what kind of smack Tagliabue is talking about Goodell when he thinks no one will repeat what he's saying.

Im not lawyer but basic access to evidence and witnesses is the backbone of our legal system and rog didnt think it applied in his kangaroo court
― panettone for the painfully alone (mayor jingleberries), Friday, 4 September 2015 23:16 (nine years ago) link
it was def a farce of a 'trial' in the NFL, but some have said (and I don't know how accurate they are) that it seems to be a right afforded to him by the CBA and that it's weird that it got overturned. mostly why I'm curious.
― Hammer Smashed Bagels, Friday, 4 September 2015 23:31 (nine years ago) link
the ruling was based on lack of notice of punishment, lack of access to witnesses, and lack of equal access to information, all of which have fuck all to do with rog's rights under integrity of the game.
― call all destroyer, Friday, 4 September 2015 23:34 (nine years ago) link
aight cool. I don't want it to be overturned, not just cos I feel it's the right decision, but cos I love watching Goodell resemble a beleaguered school principal more and more each day

Included are several damaging new allegations, including that the Patriots actually had people break into locker rooms and hotels to steal play sheets in addition to other more general spy work. There are plenty of candidates to choose from, but the biggest headline from the piece might just be the belief that DeflateGate was what one owner described as a “makeup call” for Roger Goodell and the NFL badly botching SpyGate and actively covering up just how bad it was in the face of a congressional investigation.
