#Patriots LB Dont'a Hightower is believed to have suffered a minor MCL sprain vs KC, I'm told. With the long break, could actually play W2.

looked like it could've been much worse so i'll definitely take this silver lining to yesterday's giant shitstorm

Roberto Spiralli, Friday, 8 September 2017 14:23 (seven years ago) link

Depth at RB was a nice change, but total lack of WRs and defense isn't going to get them far

Moodles, Friday, 8 September 2017 15:34 (seven years ago) link

football is bad just my opinon

lag∞n, Friday, 8 September 2017 15:39 (seven years ago) link

to be fair they were very deep at wr before they lost 3 in 2 weeks. defense is going to be fine, altho i hadn't noticed how unexciting the LB corps is past/without hightower.

i wouldn't read a great deal into last night in terms of the full season. combo of pats being outsmarted and outsmarting themselves, playing 4th choice safety as a LB did not work outside of the strip. my abiding memory of the game will be a DE somehow in man coverage on a deep bomb that turned into a 75y td and predictably getting toasted. things like that don't happen when they have their shit together.

Roberto Spiralli, Friday, 8 September 2017 15:46 (seven years ago) link

i am a little more concerned about the offense, in the short term anyway. with amendola out brady only had hogan and gronk, and maybe lewis, as receiving options he has an established rapport with. kcc bracketed gronk and put peters on hogan and then even tho brady had all the time in the world vs often a 3 man rush he just had no one to pass to. but there were promising signs of life in his relationship with cooks and burkhead and hopefully dola is back soon. and not every team has marcus peters. one thing i noticed is that i don't remember seeing dwayne allen at all after that misfire first play, certainly he ended the game without a catch. i think brady blackballed him even tho it was a horrendous throw and clearly not allen's fault at all.

LOL brissett 1/1 for 50y and leads a TD first drive

patriots defense looks, not great

lag∞n, Sunday, 24 September 2017 20:25 (seven years ago) link

they looked soft against the run again and as often in recent years were bamboozled by a mobile qb

The players kneeling sparked a strong reaction from former Patriots offensive tackle Matt Light who was part of the franchise's first three Super Bowl championships.

"As a guy that's been there and helped set up the Patriot Way so they can walk in there and do what they do, it's beyond disheartening," Light told the Boston Herald. "It's the first time I've ever been ashamed to be a Patriot. And I promise you I'm not the only one."

Matt Light fought and died for you ungrateful jerks

I'm imagining the PR firm taking his first draft of "Soon you will understand the power of the Dark Side *insert Force Choke*" and saying, "Well this is a nice start, Mr. Belichick; why don't you let us workshop this a bit for you?"

lol patritos r bad

lag∞n, Friday, 6 October 2017 16:13 (seven years ago) link

i figure unless brady gets killed they'll still win 11/12 games, but not sure what they'll look like going into the playoffs. it'll be interesting to see how they progress. even tho they do have a stack of good contributors on offense, the loss of edelman actually meant they had to completely change how they play on the fly. the difference between brady holding the ball for 2 seconds and 4 seconds is huge and that quick throw isn't reliably there anymore. the offense will continue to be good tho - last night was a TNF aberration. and based on last night it looks like they're also going to change how they play defense because of the secondary problems. i think they will figure that out because the personnel is there. unfortunately they look real soft up the gut and that is definitely a personnel issue, with branch way down on last year and linebackers that look replacement level except for hightower. the pass rush also desperately needs wise to look like he did wk 1-2 and not like last night.

it's amazing how dynamic the nfl is week to week this season. teams are really all over the place. it feels like there's no way of predicting what'll happen over the next say month, but in terms of getting to and thru the playoffs, there are teams that organizationally know how to be good after thanksgiving and teams that don't, or we don't know yet, or who aren't even looking that far ahead. things will settle down come december.

idg how the steelers can win in kansas city and baltimore and get beaten by chicago and blown out at home by jax

i suppose the answer is that roffles sux now

mookieproof, Thursday, 19 October 2017 18:05 (seven years ago) link

steelers seem to be in a similar position to the pats in that the pieces appear to be there but they are a ways from quite coming together yet. roethlisberger has looked p off but if it is just a slump and he pulls out of it, pburgh may actually hit the playoffs looking really good. being a breaker up on kcc could wind up being a big deal too.

Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, 19 October 2017 18:25 (seven years ago) link

fyi my kid receives a book every month from PJ Library, which is part of a non-profit organization and sends out children's books with themes based around Judaism. This month's book?

In 2016 Edelman became one of three Patriots (along with Malcolm Mitchell and Martellus Bennett) to publish a children's book. Edelman's book, Flying High, is about a squirrel named Jules who learns to overcome his physical limitations through hard work and the assistance of a goat named Tom.[71]

jimmy g to SF for what will presumably be pick #33 or 34. timing is weird for what is a pretty fair deal, would've thought they might have been able to squeeze a bit more out a desperate team. pats a lil short behind brady now...

Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 31 October 2017 00:48 (seven years ago) link

hopefully will draft someone a little better than ras-i dowling

Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 31 October 2017 00:53 (seven years ago) link

wonder if they might be looking to move that pick for a linebacker or someone

lag∞n, Tuesday, 31 October 2017 01:00 (seven years ago) link

yeah the timing would make sense if they are gathering resources for some other moves. but also wouldn't be surprised if they didn't bring anyone in, bb often does the opposite of what you'd expect
