Congratulations to Matt Patricia for improving the Lions from 9-7 to 6-10 and missing the playoffs. Screw getting to work on time, I don't like to either. Oh yeah, you are probably a creep too...

This looks to be a pretty interesting playoffs, probably the first open run in a good long time.
I kinda feel like one of the big D teams like B-more or Chicago could get to the Superbowl.
― earlnash, Saturday, 5 January 2019 16:09 (five years ago) link
colts / hawks / ravens / bears
p nice slate of wild card games, feel like these could be good playoffs in general.
in the afc, i have a hunch the winner of chargers/ravens beats whichever of the pats/chiefs they meet in the div and then loses to the other in the conf game. nfc i think it will be bears @ saints, rams back home 0/1.
― Roberto Spiralli, Saturday, 5 January 2019 16:52 (five years ago) link
Seems like nearly all the money is on the Colts today. Have they looked particularly good or are the Texans just that unconvincing?
― frogbs, Saturday, 5 January 2019 17:38 (five years ago) link
colts 9-1 over last 10 and look like things are clicking. houston theoretically have a good defense but overall they look nothing like a team that might win a postseason game. i think BOB is prob just a bad hc
― Roberto Spiralli, Saturday, 5 January 2019 18:04 (five years ago) link
is there, in any sport, a division more boring than the afc south
― mookieproof, Saturday, 5 January 2019 18:44 (five years ago) link
I’d argue the AFC east is more boring
― frogbs, Saturday, 5 January 2019 19:17 (five years ago) link
AFC South has more years where two teams make the playoffs than the AFC East. I'd say the Colts are the only team in the South that has much if any fanbase outside the locals.
― earlnash, Saturday, 5 January 2019 20:08 (five years ago) link
i can hate the pats and laugh at the jets; i just don't care about any of the afc south teams, let alone two of them playing each other
maybe if houston reclaimed the oilers name they could graft on some character

texans officially unconvincing

The thing I have read on the Colts is that their young O-line and D-line are for real. Bob Kravitz of Indy Star seems pretty impressed and he was a bit of local critic of some things Indy did back in the Manning days.

I thought Gurley's knee was iffy.
― Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Monday, 4 February 2019 06:10 (five years ago) link
what happened with gurley was probably just that they ran him 1,000,000 times in the regular season. ppl speculated about an injury but then it was pointed out that he played a great game vs NO pass blocking, throwing himself in front of dudes in a way he wouldn't have if he was actually injured.
6 points given up to kansas city and the rams over 6 quarters of conf champ/super bowl has to be one of the most impressive accomplishments in the belichick era, especially since the line we were being fed was that these guys are the new wave taking over. bill is probably always insufferable but seems like this would be an especially good time to avoid him for a year or two. meanwhile chiefs' 2nd half performance really just shows how good they were, and how much more they actually had going on than the rams.
― Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 4 February 2019 12:24 (five years ago) link
tbf the Rams offense looked pretty awful - Goff looked really overmatched. I've seen him like that before but it never lasted the whole game! Kinda neat though how the Pats defense has been this huge wildcard during this entire run; they'll go from like 3rd to 29th in the league during consecutive SB runs
Still, think the big takeaway from this game was "this would've been so much better if the Saints hadn't gotten screwed and/or the Chiefs won the OT coin toss"
― frogbs, Monday, 4 February 2019 13:15 (five years ago) link
the grim corporate competency, utter joylessness of this MAGA franchise is truly the dynasty America deservesthat was one of the least entertaining sporting events I've ever seen

ppl probably don't remember that 15 years ago the pats played defense like that on a regular basis. complete old-school gameplan annihilation by bill and co.
― call all destroyer, Monday, 4 February 2019 13:19 (five years ago) link
i guess the difference is the players he had to work with. pats will presumably not pay the huge money required to keep flowers this offseason and that alone will probably be enough to scuttle this defense.

― frogbs, Monday, 4 February 2019 17:49 (five years ago) link
i'd be curious about the ratings for this game, on one hand you've got this very popular dynastic team that at the same time everyone is sick of, on the other hand you have the default most popular football team in a massive metropolis that is only mildly aware of (and deeply disinterested in) the two local teams.
