mike white.... oh

Western® with Bacon Flavor, Tuesday, 12 September 2023 04:04 (nine months ago) link

I mean what's he supposed to say, this is your backup QB and the guy who's at least gonna start a couple games, gotta show a little confidence

but yea this team is too good for Wilson, who I'm reasonably certain is just an awful quarterback. wonder who the options even are, maybe Jameis? I know it won't happen but if Brady came out of retirement it would be the funniest thing ever and I'd be rooting hard for them to win the Super Bowl

frogbs, Tuesday, 12 September 2023 04:08 (nine months ago) link

jets are on primetime like every week too. enjoy

ciderpress, Tuesday, 12 September 2023 04:44 (nine months ago) link

is there a more idiotic rule in pro sports than the touchback

frogbs, Friday, 15 September 2023 01:32 (nine months ago) link

I thought you couldn't fumble forward and play is dead at spot of fumble? Ooops

octobeard, Friday, 15 September 2023 01:58 (nine months ago) link

all I know is if a touchback is possible they will always rule it a touchback because they just love that rule

can't think of another rule in any sport that makes so many people go "what? that's so fucking stupid" at once

frogbs, Friday, 15 September 2023 02:11 (nine months ago) link

Eh, I think it just should emphasize that protecting the ball is important and on the 1 yard line, even more so. The offense has so many gimme rules that makes it easy, this is one that it don't.

Pretty much you fumble it into the end zone, yer fucted. At least the way the rule is written, if you recover the fumble, it goes back to where it happened. That was changed by the old famous Stabler/Caspar "holy roller" play.

earlnash, Friday, 15 September 2023 18:14 (nine months ago) link

sure but square that with the fact that the ball only needs to slightly cross the plane for a TD which is why so many players dive for it like that when they get close. having such a thin line between touchdown and turnover feels weird to me, I don't really like the idea of turnovers where the other team doesn't even have to touch the ball. it should be like a 15 yard penalty or something similar to what happens when the kickoff is out of bounds

Vikings got a fun of favorable calls (and non-calls) to keep them in it, kinda hard to overcome 4 fumbles though

frogbs, Friday, 15 September 2023 18:34 (nine months ago) link

I don't feel too bad for the Vikes on that because Jefferson didn't need to make that risky extension, they could have had an easy goal line play next down.

I understand the argument against making it a touchback, otoh it happens pretty infrequently and fuck fumblers

Make the chats AI (Neanderthal), Friday, 15 September 2023 19:18 (nine months ago) link

i guess joe burrow sucks now

mookieproof, Sunday, 17 September 2023 20:05 (nine months ago) link

Burrow did not play great, but they also had 2-3 penalties on big plays that kinda broke them today as much as the one bad interception when they were closing to score. I thought they need to run the ball more today. They could not do bupkis last week against Cleveland.

earlnash, Sunday, 17 September 2023 20:14 (nine months ago) link

Watching Daniel Jones attempt to show he is a $40M/year quarterback is extremely satisfying.

Seems to fit today for Cards fans...

earlnash, Sunday, 17 September 2023 23:41 (nine months ago) link

1989 Steelers reference made me think and it was the age of Bubby Brister as QB in Pittsburgh.

That was back in the era of Billy Joe Tolliver and Bobby Hebert (sounds cooler said than typed).

earlnash, Sunday, 17 September 2023 23:50 (nine months ago) link

that team's quarterbacks, altogether (but largely bubby), had 10 touchdown passes vs 13 interceptions. in 16 games

an entirely different era

mookieproof, Monday, 18 September 2023 00:09 (nine months ago) link

In those days you had to score touchdowns uphill, both ways, in the snow

Make the chats AI (Neanderthal), Monday, 18 September 2023 00:12 (nine months ago) link

that's why today's color guys are obsessed with 'running downhill'

mookieproof, Monday, 18 September 2023 00:17 (nine months ago) link

fastest dude on the Dolphins might actually be their coach god damn he was truckin it into the tunnel at half

frogbs, Monday, 18 September 2023 01:48 (nine months ago) link

Reading more on those 89 Steelers, they lost their first two games by a combined score of 92-10 and then turned around and finished 9-7. Pretty good improvement, they beat the Browns in second game after getting beat week one 51-0.

That was Rod Woodson's rookie year. He was so good, probably the best football player from Indiana ever.

earlnash, Monday, 18 September 2023 02:07 (nine months ago) link

This is the most conservative play calling on either side of the ball I've ever seen from Belichick

Make the chats AI (Neanderthal), Monday, 18 September 2023 02:33 (nine months ago) link

haha when rodgers ruptured his achilles last week every single steelers guy on twitter was like THAT'S NOT AS BAD AS WHEN ROD WOODSON TORE HIS ACL IN 1995 WEEK ONE

mookieproof, Monday, 18 September 2023 02:36 (nine months ago) link

This Patriots team is not very good. That's been true in recent years w Cam Newton but this is the first year I have thought that with Jones.

They're not BAD. But they're very vanilla, little swagger, and very conservative and close to the vest.

Belichick punting on 4th and 4 from the opposing 40 shocked me, like... that's usually "go for it" 9 times out of 10 with him

Cowboys' Jerry Jones: Working to increase minority ownership in NFL

no, actually he just said some random shit about a lawsuit. he's only 'working' to make people forget he was in the background of the most racist photo of the 20th century

let me know what he says when 'a minority' has $8 billion and wants to buy a team

mookieproof, Monday, 18 September 2023 03:02 (nine months ago) link

well they did some pretty cool shit on that drive

frogbs, Monday, 18 September 2023 03:04 (nine months ago) link

Yeah they actually let Mac play QB on that drive

Make the chats AI (Neanderthal), Monday, 18 September 2023 03:15 (nine months ago) link

LMAO Patriots just did an emergency Billdozer

frogbs, Monday, 18 September 2023 03:20 (nine months ago) link

oh come on you gotta let that stand

frogbs, Monday, 18 September 2023 03:23 (nine months ago) link

Nah he was short and I thought so in real time. Was actually shocked at the original spot.

Credit to the Patriots, they were resilient and Mac played a pretty inspired second half

Make the chats AI (Neanderthal), Monday, 18 September 2023 03:25 (nine months ago) link

I wouldn't have been mad if they had let it stand, necessarily

Make the chats AI (Neanderthal), Monday, 18 September 2023 03:25 (nine months ago) link

fuck that

after the last two decades you need to shit on them whenever possible

mookieproof, Monday, 18 September 2023 03:26 (nine months ago) link

Lol

Make the chats AI (Neanderthal), Monday, 18 September 2023 03:41 (nine months ago) link

My mother and I finished a bottle of wine among us during the game.

So after two weeks I have no idea who is a contender

Make the chats AI (Neanderthal), Monday, 18 September 2023 03:42 (nine months ago) link

that's cool

mookieproof, Monday, 18 September 2023 03:43 (nine months ago) link

i will never contend

ciderpress, Monday, 18 September 2023 03:43 (nine months ago) link

Really feel like the Vikings will be one of they knock off the sloppy turnovers.

Make the chats AI (Neanderthal), Monday, 18 September 2023 03:45 (nine months ago) link

would be nice to believe an 0-2 team is a contender

ciderpress, Monday, 18 September 2023 03:50 (nine months ago) link

They're mostly 0-2 because they've committed 7 turnovers in two games.

I just can't see that persisting all season long.

Their defense though needs work.

Idk Sam Fran is one I'm pretty confident in the NFC atm

Make the chats AI (Neanderthal), Monday, 18 September 2023 03:53 (nine months ago) link

mac jones actually looked pretty good last night! or maybe i am just way too conditioned to jets' "quarterback play"

is he disgruntled adrian? (voodoo chili), Monday, 18 September 2023 14:24 (nine months ago) link

Somehow, the Falcons are now 2-0. I went to yesterday's game, they were incredibly frustrating through three quarters then pulled a win out of their collective ass. I think they have the pieces, but play calling is atrocious.

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Monday, 18 September 2023 14:26 (nine months ago) link

I was at a bar of Packers fans who were actually kind of incredulous that the back of the end zone TD was overruled. in real time I thought he was probably out but on replay he clearly looked in

frustrating game for GB too, Ridder probably should've been picked off 3-4 times but we kept dropping them. but they dropped a pretty bad pass by Love at the end too. all told Jordan Love actually looks pretty solid

frogbs, Monday, 18 September 2023 14:32 (nine months ago) link

Yeah, overruling that TD was pretty outrageous. I think that actually lit a fire under Atlanta. Not surprisingly, the crowd was probably close to half Packers fans.

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Monday, 18 September 2023 14:35 (nine months ago) link

Bijon Robinson looked like a total beast (though I will point out it's not particularly difficult to run all over the GB defense). he also helped one of our players up after a play...kinda irritating when you're trying hard to dislike someone and he turns out to be a nice guy

frogbs, Monday, 18 September 2023 14:39 (nine months ago) link

two MNFs, two gruesome injuries. really awful what happened to Chubb.

Make the chats AI (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 19 September 2023 02:03 (nine months ago) link

yeah that was a nuclear knee injury. career ender.

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 19 September 2023 02:05 (nine months ago) link

tired of things being taken to the house

mookieproof, Tuesday, 19 September 2023 03:27 (nine months ago) link

steelers won despite not running a single play inside the cleveland 30

not really a recipe for success
