he hasn't really had a particularly impressive game since the suspension and is getting sacked a ton

frogbs, Tuesday, 19 September 2023 16:08 (one year ago) link

He doesn't strike me as a quarterback who has a vision of the whole field or the ability to keep his head, both of which are essential to greatness imho.

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Tuesday, 19 September 2023 16:10 (one year ago) link

In contrast to, say, Trevor Lawrence, who has all the makings of an elite QB.

Maybe cover Tyreek Hill idk

That being said, Russell is not the problem. The defensive scheme is a mess

McNugget Aggressive Growth Fund (Neanderthal), Sunday, 24 September 2023 20:31 (one year ago) link

Yea Jordan Love was beasting it in the 4th

frogbs, Sunday, 24 September 2023 22:03 (one year ago) link

Pack receivers were not doing Love too many favors too, he had at least 4-5 times where he hit the guy in the numbers and got nada.

What a beat down on the Broncos. I guess Payton did not do good enough bounties this week. Anyone that had fantasy teams playing against Dolphins got rolled. In my league Mostert and Hill combined for like 75 points today.

This is literally the worst I have ever seen the Bears. What a grease fire. They have generally been crappy on offense, but at least competent in other parts of the game...now they got nothin'.

earlnash, Sunday, 24 September 2023 22:53 (one year ago) link

Yea Love’s stats don’t look too great but he’s been pretty impressive. Seems to be getting the ball where it needs to be but his receivers just aren’t making the plays. That flea flicker on 4th down totally would’ve worked but the throw back was botched. Also GB is down their two best offensive players so who knows maybe they’re gonna start putting up numbers soon

frogbs, Sunday, 24 September 2023 23:12 (one year ago) link

Actually starting to wonder if Chicago would’ve ruined Mahomes had they picked him. They’ve got that Browns thing going on where every QB they get instantly turns to garbage

frogbs, Sunday, 24 September 2023 23:21 (one year ago) link

I always think that luck in the draw is a bigger part of NFL success than people believe.

Would Terry Bradshaw been great if he would have been drafted by the Saints?

Would Tom Brady been great if he would have been drafted by the Browns?

That said, I have been middling on Fields since he was drafted myself. Running QBs can look great in stretches and then completely lose it. Don't doubt that the Bears total dysfunction is big part of that situation, but I also tend to doubt if Fields would have gone to say the Eagles he would have success like Jalen Hurts.

I kinda think Stroud might finally be the decent OSU pro QB, but he also looks and plays much more like a trad drop back QB and is pretty darn accurate throwing the ball.

The 49ers selected Brock Purdy with the final pick (262nd overall) of the 2022 NFL Draft, making him that year's mr. irrelevant

even as a donkey fan i kinda wanted fins to get the scoring rekkid but wahtever. vance johnson may be a great guy but to expect anything much better is like, idiocy? cmon team, we know what we know, he was our HEAD COACH wtf

otoh, wade phillips was our head coach when i was practically a kid and well, he sucked then, but later...

anyhow 70-20, i drink it up. also, hire wade phillips again lol

It says something that the greatest bears quarterback of my lifetime other than Jim McMahon by default is a choice between Jay Cutler, Rex Grossman, and Erik Kramer.

omar little, Monday, 25 September 2023 02:16 (one year ago) link

its clearly Cutler

frogbs, Monday, 25 September 2023 02:19 (one year ago) link

thinking of the arm strength and arm talent of cutler makes me lament humanity a little, really. then i remember the larfs and feel better

i'd say the choice of cutler as the best bears QB isn't that obvious, just because of the admittedly objectively hilarious disappointment of his era. sexy rexy helped them or i guess didn't get in their way en route to the super bowl, and erik kramer had that one lone gold season.

it probably is cutler though, the comedy value alone is a plus on top of the cannon arm.

omar little, Monday, 25 September 2023 17:02 (one year ago) link

the bears are the worst sports franchise in Chicago obv

If Trevor Lawrence doesn't pan out that 2021 QB draft class is looking to be an all time flop group

octobeard, Monday, 25 September 2023 17:45 (one year ago) link

with so much hype too. lots of pro-bowl caliber non-QBs taken in the top half of the 2021 draft, Micah Parsons went the pick after Justin Fields

symsymsym, Monday, 25 September 2023 18:21 (one year ago) link

Seeing the Broncos get rolled, reminds me of a game I remember well as a teenager.

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/198810310clt.htm

Eric Dickerson's best game as a Colt.

Stupid Colts let Chris Chandler get awauy (who also at one point ended up a Bear) then eventually traded Chris Hinton, Andre Rison and another first round pick for GD Jeff George. Sure...trade your right tackle, best WR (who was a rookie at that point) and then wonder why your young QB sucks.

Colts QB - got them a couple wins.

I've seen this look before from college guys who get rejected by the girl they like at the party. where your feelings are really raw but you don't want to appear vulnerable so instead you get all snappy and pissed off even though you can't hide the emotion on your face. its not a good place to be and I think a head coach has to be tougher than that. truth is LaFleur's Packers teams are getting their asses kicked a lot, even during Rodgers' two MVP years they had a lot of games like this. in fact all 3 of his playoff losses were games where the offense looked completely broken and didn't get on track until it was much too late. that never happened during the McCarthy years. something is clearly wrong here dude you gotta figure it out

frogbs, Friday, 29 September 2023 14:29 (one year ago) link

main problems for the packers offense seem to be: leaky offensive line, overconfidence in love's ability to make something out of nothing, lack of committal to the running game (this probably because jones is coming off injury and dillon just has no juice)

at least the receivers are better this year

is he disgruntled adrian? (voodoo chili), Friday, 29 September 2023 15:13 (one year ago) link

true but that's how they looked last year with Rodgers too. feel like a lot of their success in the Rodgers' era was thanks to the near-psychic connection he had with guys like Jennings, Jordy, and Davante and a lot of their failures in the playoffs were because defenses knew exactly who he was gonna target 15 times a game. feels like one of those situations where GB is just gonna have to eat a bad year and hope the cumulative experience pays off next year when hopefully Love is gonna know where his guys are when he's in trouble.

frogbs, Friday, 29 September 2023 17:26 (one year ago) link

they're 27th in rushing; pretty tough for anyone, let alone an inexperienced QB, to succeed when the defense knows you have to throw all the time

last year the packers had more going on in the running game with jones, dillon (who wasn't so bad last year, was he?), and a healthier bakhtiari
