Games to give a damn about:Green Bay at CarolinaTennessee at New Orleans (curious to see if Saints are getting it going and how Titans respond to a new temp head coach)Miami at Buffalo (late in the game enough now that this could be a turning point for both team's season)St. Louis at Minnesota (two surprising contenders with killer running games)Denver at Indianapolis (will Luck die?)

otherwise, pretty weak week imo
Carolina vs GB gonna be a big one, that would be a huge home win for Carolina, meanwhile GB needs to rebound and risks being tied with Minnesota for the division (though Minnesota's second half schedule is pretty brutal)

yeah i wish gb vs car wasn't on against the NE game, which hopefully will be v dull
oak vs pitt is an interesting game, a potential playoff playoff
stl vs minn should be a fairly straightforward win for the rams, vikes will find it hard to score and won't be able to stop stl on the ground
― Roberto Spiralli, Wednesday, 4 November 2015 14:45 (nine years ago) link
yeah Stl vs Minn should be interesting. Rams strike me as a potential playoff team and the Vikings still feel a bit unproven - good record but they've had the easiest schedule in the league thus far.
looking at Pro Football Reference - AFC South has the 3 worst teams in the league while the Colts are tied for 8th worst...could this be the worst division of all time? even the terrible NFC West that produced the Saint-beating 7-9 Hasselhawks wasn't this bad.

I don't know why this is but the "really terrible division" seems to be a recently new thing - NFC West in 2010, the NFC North in 2013 (though Rodgers was out for half that season), NFC South in 2014 and now the AFC South. I didn't realize how bad last yaer's NFC South really was b/c only the Buccos were really out-and-out bad, but all those teams feel like bottom third, maybe the Saints were league average but even they had huge holes. Can't think of any entire divisions that bad before then, I've gone back to 1990 on PFR and the only one that stands out is maaaaybe the 2008 AFC West, though those 8-8 Chargers were better than their record (the 8-8 Broncos sure weren't). Only a couple of division winners throughout the entire 90's had less than 10 wins. Weird.

On the plus side, this may be the year that finally convinces the NFL to re-do the playoffs. If the Colts get a home playoff game at 6-10 while the 10-6 Raiders have to sit out...

Over a cranberry juice, Warner leans on the table and watches video of a play from Week 4. Fourth quarter, 49ers down 17-3 to Green Bay, trying to rally. On second-and-5 from the Packers' 15-yard line, Kaepernick takes the shotgun snap, sees running back Reggie Bush wide open over the middle for what should be a walk-in touchdown. "A layup," Warner says. Kap fires it in the dirt. Warner rewinds the clip, then freezes the frame as Kap is throwing. "The biggest thing that I see with Kap quite often -- and it's frustrating -- are his feet." As Kap releases the ball, his feet are parallel to the line of scrimmage, rather than perpendicular. He's throwing with all arm, rather than with his body. The result is a pass both late -- Bush was open by three steps before Kap even noticed -- and inaccurate. "Normally good quarterbacks don't throw like that," Warner says.Warner leans back, disheartened. They had focused on footwork in the offseason. He was even more disheartened when Kap told reporters that he was "not huge" on mechanics. "That tells a big story right there," Warner says. He isn't faulting Kap's work ethic. "He worked his butt off" in their time together, Warner says. He is saying that Kap isn't really a fifth-year quarterback. He's a fifth-year player, 28 years old, but developmentally behind the curve. Warner faults the way football is trending, with youth and college coaches putting their best athletes at quarterback and deploying them in the spread, exactly what happened to Kap at the University of Nevada. "So now," Warner says, "we're saying -- at the highest level, against the best talent -- you have to learn how to play quarterback. To me, it sounds impossible."
