So does anyone else think Forte is going to go to NE? Seems to be the popular destination and really I think how good Forte is in the screen game, even at his age, I could see him at least being a good Kevin Faulk style player for them.
Strategically to me, I think I would like to build off throwing more to a back than the seam guy. It seems that clubs are loading up on DBs to combat the big wideout. I think I would be looking for a FB/H Back types in the Keith Byars, Tom Rathman, Daryl Johnson types and trying to find guys that are players that could block to do ball control running, but can be matchup headaches to LBs/DEs and could be used in the running game. I think going with a FB or second TE gives a team options to pound the rock on the ground and work in some time clock management.

with the giant hike in the cap teams are going wild and i guess it doesn't really matter, not as much as it would ordinarily. vernon is a very good player, at least they're paying for m/l a sure thing. meanwhile, the saints are paying 7m/yr for coby fleener. and to think they used to have a TE worth about that.

reasonable plan if they pony up and pay fitz, but that's strangely up in the air rn. which is kinda baffling. like, dude, you worked really well in a system for the first time in a whiiiiiiiile, and...you wanna roll the dice on that happening again and keeping more than the bare-minimum-guaranteed part of the deal?
― if young slothrop don't trust ya i'm gon' rhyme ya (slothroprhymes), Friday, 11 March 2016 19:30 (eight years ago) link
agreed; putting rg3 out there as a start-of-the-season starter under literally any circumstances is asking for trouble and any formulation that runs the risk of that happening is dumb
― ulysses, Friday, 11 March 2016 19:33 (eight years ago) link
I'd think the Jets probably should sign Fitzpatric for good money for short years and draft a QB that could perhaps be ready to start in a year or two. It is the Jets, so whatever is the right decision, they will most likely do the opposite.
I'd think SF would be the place for RG3, considering they got one of the coaches that developed that style of offense he played at Baylor.
― earlnash, Sunday, 13 March 2016 04:11 (eight years ago) link
Classic free agent Mexican Standoff going on as it looks like everyone is waiting for the first team to make it so on the mediocre QB line. I like the idea that Kap would go to the Broncos, but he want them to beat Cleveland's offer. Fitz is 33 and holding out for the only big payday of his career, as he figures he is better than a couple of these guys that got paid (and he might have a point). I figure once those two go then where RGIII goes will happen. Same thing happens with baseball and NBA free agents more often.
There needs to be a 'replacement level' like term for the top of the bottom of the barrel like there is 'elite' in the QB mouthpiece ranking system.

green bay probably most promising in the nfc. i think vikings still have a reasonable chance at a wildcard but that division won't put up any resistance otherwise. seattle will still be a force, they do appear to still be declining from their heights but still it is only one year they've had off from the superbowl. i guess carolina have concerns with their secondary now, no josh norman and no safeties. arizona are probably the closest to gb/sea if palmer stays alive.
afc looks generally the worse of the conferences at the top again. hard to know what to expect from denver. pittsburgh i guess? them and the bengals from the north, the ravens seem to have real problems still. maybe one of the teams in the south will be good???

where to buy kaepernick's socks?
― ælərdaɪs (jim in vancouver), Thursday, 1 September 2016 19:29 (eight years ago) link
After the head of a national police organization blasted Colin Kaepernick on Thursday for wearing socks with cartoon pigs in police hats, the San Francisco 49ers quarterback said he didn't want the apparel to distract from his protest of racial inequalities in America.
On Instagram, Kaepernick said he wore the socks in practice to make a statement -- but did so before he made a public stance by refusing to stand for the national anthem at preseason games.
According to USA Today, Kaepernick has reportedly worn the socks as early as Aug. 10, but he had not been asked about them. Images of the socks were posted on social media Wednesday night and quickly created a stir.
"It's just ridiculous that the same league that prohibits the Dallas [Cowboys] football club from honoring the slain officers in their community with their uniforms stands silent when Kaepernick is dishonoring police officers with what he's wearing on the field," Bill Johnson, executive director of the National Association of Police Organizations, said, according to USA TODAY Sports.
"I think the league is in a downward spiral regarding their obligations to the public under [commissioner] Roger Goodell, and this is just another example of that."

― thrusted pelvis-first back (ulysses), Friday, 2 September 2016 14:35 (eight years ago) link
Relatives that watch a lot of Fox News seem to really enjoy arguing. It's like a cult.
Shaun Hill has had one of the stranger yet very long careers in football. It's even different than someone like a career backup like Don Strock who pretty much always played for the same coach and whose career straddled between two Hall of Fame starting QBs.
http://www.nfl.com/player/shaunhill/2504833/profile
Basically the guy was a back up for 5(!) seasons and only threw 1 ball then was a backup in SF. I really only first remember seeing him play that year he played a bunch for the Lions, don't really remember him on the Niners but they are rarely on TV around here and were not very good at all those years.. Odd thing is that he has been kinda effective in some ways at least compared to other long lasting backup QBs. I mean 62% comp. percentage and his QB/Int ratio isn't horrible nor really is an 85.2 career QB rating. I guess the knock is that he took a bunch of sacks, but that is better than throwing an INT I suppose.

Bradford to the Vikings for a 1st and a 4th...yikes!
That's pretty much saying to me, they are not sure Bridgewater will come back and some stories said it might take two years for him to do so since the knee came apart.
Vikings are built to win now as the defense is there and AP isn't going to get younger, so I can kinda see the gamble.
It will be interesting to see how this one plays out.

― frogbs, Saturday, 3 September 2016 17:54 (eight years ago) link
I think the reality is the young players the Viks drafted over the past couple years are going to be running into end of rookie contracts, so they are gambling on the now rather than wait till next year.
Is Bradford an upgrade...maybe, if he is healthy.
― earlnash, Saturday, 3 September 2016 20:22 (eight years ago) link
it's such a bad situation for bradford to go into - starting for a 3rd team in 3 years and w/ zero time to practice + develop chemistry w/ the offense before being thrown out there. it's almost not his fault if he can't put it together but there's only so many chances the guy gets before he's written off imo. wouldn't be surprised for this to blow up big time on the vikings. meanwhile philly must just be writing off this year bc chase looks like a mess and after a few losses fans will be demanding wentz go in.

― thrusted pelvis-first back (ulysses), Saturday, 3 September 2016 22:58 (eight years ago) link
One thing I heard on the radio this morning driving was that part of the deal why Bradford was chosen was that he had already played in the style offense that Norv Turner runs both in St. Louis and with the Eagles this year. The Vikings didn't throw the ball that much last year as, they were 32nd in passing attempts. Turner is going to run the same offense he did with the Cowboys over 20 years ago, give the ball to AP 25 times a game and run play action passing. I'd figure Bradford would be way better suited to running that offense than that Star Trek crap that Chip Kelly was trying to run last year.
They gave up a 1st and a 4th. I don't think it was quite the Herschel Walker deal. 1st round picks are a crap shoot even for good clubs. I give them some credit for making it happen "now" and not waiting. I think to some extent they over play how 'complex' all this stuff is to some extent. Sure working with people over time improves things, but their D is built to win now, so I give them some credit for trying to go for it.
Sounds like it would at best be early next season until Bridgewater would be ready anyway and some reports state he might be out two seasons as since his knee gave way, it's going to be a bit more dicey to heal.
Think about the Browns a couple years ago that had a good D, solid O-line and the worst QBs in football...only thing they got was fired. Same deal with Rex with the Jets and the Bills a few years ago. Free Agency means clubs turn over every 2-3 years.
10/23 with the Vikings in Philly is going to be interesting now.
Being a Bears fan and watching Urlacher and Briggs play with so much scrub QB play, it would have been nice if the McCaskey's would have made the deal to get a QB when those guys were in their prime. Criminy they rode sexy Rexy and Weirdbeird into a NFC title game and a Superbowl... By the time they finally made the deal for Cutler, everyone was either gone or old.
