atl vs gbp is literally impossible to call imo. both weird, inconsistent teams who have looked unbeatable and shambolic at various points of the season. in the afc game difficult to imagine how pittsburgh win. bell will get a lot of yards tho, which will be nice for him.

The over/under and line in the Packers game looks pretty enticing. I would have figured the line would be closer than that and it probably will be later in the week.
― earlnash, Tuesday, 17 January 2017 04:38 (eight years ago)
think Jordy's health will be a huge impact in that game. Aaron's managed to rekindle his fire and create offense even without him for the majority of the last two playoff games, but having him ready to go, even if not 100%, could stretch an already stretched ATL defense.
but then again, it isn't like Green Bay isn't going to have its hands completely full with ATL. I suspect the game will likely turn on a turnover and resemble Arena Football the rest of the way.

ryan grigson firing is bittersweet - i have appreciated all of his efforts at making the colts a shambles, but otoh fuck that asshole and good riddance to terrible garbage. should be the last of him - he won't get a job in football again and he doesn't seem like the kind of guy that would want to do media stuff, or at least i hope not. pat mcafee commented on twitter about seeing him "treat humans absolutely horrendously for 5 years"
― Roberto Spiralli, Sunday, 22 January 2017 00:03 (eight years ago)
The conference championship match-ups look pretty pick 'em to me. I cannot say with any definition who is better in either game. ATL has never got it done and until you have done it, it's hard to figure you for the people to finish it off. NE looks invincible, but would they really be 14-2 if they played the Steelers fairly brutal schedule...I don't know, I could see it flipped around if they played it out that way.

yeah, Atlanta scoring 17 isn't surprising, Green Bay starting slow on offense isn't either, but getting shut out and looking inept is shocking.
they really gotta start no-huddling it a bit.
their defense isn't going to pitch a shutout the rest of the way tho so they're gonna like have to score every drive in the second half.
― Neanderthal, Sunday, 22 January 2017 21:28 (eight years ago)
problem is as well that this Packers offense is more precise than explosive, not exactly the type that is gonna light up the scoreboard twice in five minutes or anything.
IMO the Packers should start putting 12 in the defensive huddle and just hope nobody notices.
― Neanderthal, Sunday, 22 January 2017 21:30 (eight years ago)
so...unless there is a major shock from this point, atlanta has not jut beat but whupped the two "best" teams in the nfc en route to the superbowl

I'm pulling for GB as one of my besties is a diehard GB fan. I wouldn't mind seeing a crazy comeback in the 2nd half but i dunno, it doesn't seem that kinda year this playoffs. how many of these games has been decided by halftime?
really the most anticlimactic playoffs in recent memory. only game I've enjoyed was Green Bay/Dallas.
― Neanderthal, Sunday, 22 January 2017 21:39 (eight years ago)
Xp Yeah that was such a gutpunch, took me forever to get over that one. Plus i can't stand the Seahawks but do kinda like Atlanta
― frogbs, Sunday, 22 January 2017 21:41 (eight years ago)
I was in ATL for a concert last year on the day they played the Panthers at home and the fans on MARTA looked positively lit up and excited about their team. and this was before they really had hit their stride. I am happy for the city cos it's not like the Hawks are gonna bring one home anytime soon and LOL Braves.
― Neanderthal, Sunday, 22 January 2017 21:51 (eight years ago)
ahh that's a good way to start the second half
tell you what, this defense is not the pushover it was earlier in the season. if they get this kind of pressure in the SB (assuming the result remains), they will be really hard to defeat

― An Alan Bennett Joint (Michael B), Sunday, 22 January 2017 21:58 (eight years ago)
wow. Atlanta could be the favorite in the SB at this rate. I mean, this was a lean year for great teams, but the Steelers can be thrown on, and the Patriots played a weaker schedule. Patriots have the advantage in the coaching department and experience, so they could easily throw them off their game, but I think Atlanta would massacre the Steelers at this point unless Julio Jones or someone equally important got hurt in the game.
― Neanderthal, Sunday, 22 January 2017 21:59 (eight years ago)

― Heez, Sunday, 22 January 2017 22:25 (eight years ago)
Got paged into work and came out and it was 31-0, what a whoop down by ATL.
The thing that impressed me when I looked at the Falcons stats earlier this week was how many rushing yards they had. Their top two guys got a combined over 1500 yards on the ground to go with almost 5000 yards through the air. Don't know if you have had a team combine that type of numbers in a while. Colts probably did it once or twice with Manning. I'd figure the Rams with Faulk had that type of mix.

NE looked great that first month of the year without Brady, so in a way it is not surprising they are here now. They play who they play, it was just an odd fluke it was a schedule where they just happen to not play a couple of the big teams. It is the Pats best defense in quite a few seasons.

yeah i am sure belichick is unbearably smug about how well the defense came together without jones and collins. if they hadn't been so healthy on defense that might've been very different. biggest difference has been the secondary, when the pats def was mediocre it was because they were so poor at db

Defense in football has changed, the cover corner is in many ways the big impact player where the inside linebacker used to be. One thing that Simms did state later in the broadcast today about the Steeler's defense is correct in that what they have works in the regular season, but their DBs have been roasted by Brady over the past few years and until Pittsburgh can beat NE, they are not going to win it all.
― earlnash, Monday, 23 January 2017 04:26 (eight years ago)

The Steelers wasted little time in getting rid of LeGarrette Blount, releasing the veteran running back less than 24 hours after he left the field before the end of Pittsburgh's victory Monday against the Titans.
"We believe the decision to release LeGarrette is in the best interest of the organization and wish him the best of luck," coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday afternoon in a statement released by the Steelers.
