I guess Florida State thought since they were playing in Ireland that it was a bowl game and they did not need to go.
I was surprised that Georgia Tech won that one.

Georgia has not fell off it seems. What I watched, Clemsons offense could not do bupkus. D played ok in first half but it looks pretty obvious they ran out of gas against the Bulldogs. Whooping.
ND and A&M could be interesting match up.

Don’t know if anyone else saw them but I thought the retro uniforms the Illini were wearing against Michigan were pretty cool.
They had the helmet painted to look like an old leather helmet.
They got good colors too, that was the reason Papa Bear brought them with him to the bears.

― 145 feet up in a Jeffrey Pine (Sufjan Grafton), Monday, 21 October 2024 18:11 (one year ago)
i think even if they could afford to fire him they wouldn't because after last season the fanbase is too invested in him being the savior. they will have no choice to hit the portal hard again to be competitive bcuz their roster just isn't good, and that might work. but if it doesn't then i'll be very interested to see what happens
― slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Monday, 21 October 2024 18:20 (one year ago)
in spite of messy officiating, fans throwing bottles on the field, dropped balls, and interceptions, UGA/Texas was a lot of fun to watch
― Brad C., Monday, 21 October 2024 18:34 (one year ago)
xp They improved each year under Norvell until this season, so he probably is a good coach. Their portal ranking has been fairly consistent, but it seems (at a glance) they took more proven players in '23 compared to '24 - more guys with T ranking > HS ranking.
― 145 feet up in a Jeffrey Pine (Sufjan Grafton), Monday, 21 October 2024 18:43 (one year ago)
Miami have been extremely entertaining this year. Every close game has at least one controversial late call. This most recent one with Louisville was clearly not a fumble, though. The hit on Fernando Mendoza was the definition of targeting, however. Cal were also screwed by the refs in South Bend two years ago, so I feel quite badly for them.
― 145 feet up in a Jeffrey Pine (Sufjan Grafton), Monday, 21 October 2024 18:51 (one year ago)
i definitely think norvell is a good coach, but he's at a school where they expect you to be better than just good. there's still a lot of evidence that you need to recruit HS at a really high level to compete for a national title, regardless of how well you portal, and norvell has never recruited high school well at FSU, even last year. recruiting people have been calling this out for years but he was able to paper over it w/ great portal additions covering the last two seasons. this year they struck out and there is no base talent level to fall back on and the result is the worst season in school history basically. i think his issue is that he's at a job that expects consistent excellence, but in order to be consistently excellent you very likely cannot be relying on the portal bringing in half your starting line up every season
― slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Monday, 21 October 2024 18:54 (one year ago)
This most recent one with Louisville was clearly not a fumble, though.
(as a miami fan) the thing that was annoying about this is that, in reality, a call wasn't even made. that was standard practice in these exact situations now -- the refs "call" it a touchdown bcuz the rules still stipulate that a call has to be made on the field, but in reality the refs are doing nothing and just waiting to consult the video. the call was always the correct one, which was an incomplete pass. nothing was actually "overturned"
― slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Monday, 21 October 2024 18:58 (one year ago)
yes, I agree they would have ruled it an incomplete pass in the moment if video review weren't an option.

i think georgia and ohio state are still on a different level than anyone else in terms of talent and physical attributes of their players. but their QBs are not that great, or in the case of beck haven't been playing that great. teams like miami and oregon have lesser overall talent but still enough talent to beat them when combined w/ superior QB play. having to beat both ohio state and georgia would be tough for any team though.

The Seminoles rank last among 134 FBS teams in scoring with 13.3 points per game and are 101st in scoring defense, surrendering 29.8 points per game. After flirting with Alabama's vacancy once Nick Saban retired in January, Norvell agreed to a 10-year extension at Florida State that will pay him more than $84 million through the 2031 season.

Gut punch for Vols fans, they had them beat and let them off the hook. Georgia does not look anywhere close as physically dominating as they did a couple years back. They are still good, but their d-line is nowhere close this year- and that was a big part of why they won it all.

ND crushed the Razorbacks at home. I like seeing SEC teams get beat bad by Notre Dame, rare as it is.
IU was not on TV around here, but glad they hung on and got the win at Iowa. That can be a tough place to play, Hoosiers have not won very often there (Really anywhere usually).
Been a while since the Rambling Wreck was undefeated this late in the season. Georgia Tech is weird as they used to be solid in both BBall and Football all the time for years and they have not been that good for a while in either. Got to figure that Atlanta talent goes to GA all now or out of town for college?

The not yet pros that yet are pros had a good day today. I was kinda under the weather and watched it on and off all day.
Nostradamus award to Joel Klatt for talking up something like "got to watch the Buckeyes between the two 40 yard markers, they like to take a deep shot in those situations" and then the Buckeyes bomb a 50 yard TD in the next snap. Baller move.
IU looked pretty darn good. Their backs are very fast. QB Fernando is very accurate and I kinda get a Chad Pennington vibe off him, the dude is just on the money on anything under 15 yards. Mac Jones was that way at Alabama.Got to love the one DB who broke up the TD attempt on 4th down in the end zone against Maryland, who then mimes taking the ref's flag and putting in his pocket. That was a pretty original one.
They must have put the good sh!t in the Gator AID today as they were throwing down on Georgia. There was some nasty hitting, no penalty happening there. Going to take alot of Jelloshots to make that game go away.
UK winning like it is 1952 out there. Winning ugly is still winning.
I slept through and did not see much of the Texas/Vanderbilt game, but that is definitely a highlight one worth checking out. I got to wonder if Pavia can make it work at the next level, I kinda hope so, he is fun to watch.

That IU catch was a bit like the Dwight Clark play. Incredible play, easily the craziest end to an IU game since Dave Schnell led the upset of Michigan back in '87.
Diego Pavia is a f-n legend. Definitely an athlete that seems to be totally maxing out what he can do with his physical abilities.
Oregon and Iowa was a good fugly game, a slobberknocker to use one of Madden's terms. Probably did not play too many games of that style in the PAC10 over the last few years.
