I guess Florida State thought since they were playing in Ireland that it was a bowl game and they did not need to go.

I was surprised that Georgia Tech won that one.

Georgia has not fell off it seems. What I watched, Clemsons offense could not do bupkus. D played ok in first half but it looks pretty obvious they ran out of gas against the Bulldogs. Whooping.

ND and A&M could be interesting match up.

I was called names for saying Riley Leonard looked like Tyler Buchner against TAMU. That 15 yard underthrow INT looked like high school (and it likely cost us the game of course).

That was a heck of a game, best football game yet this season.

IU whomped up on the Cornhuskers. James Madison is even a bit more impressive when you consider Cignetti brought 14 players with him to Indiana.

Hopefully the QBs injury is not that bad. He can toss it pretty good.

Don’t know if anyone else saw them but I thought the retro uniforms the Illini were wearing against Michigan were pretty cool.

They had the helmet painted to look like an old leather helmet.

They got good colors too, that was the reason Papa Bear brought them with him to the bears.

slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Monday, 21 October 2024 18:07 (eleven months ago)

ohio state looks like by far the best team to me this year, but their QB isn't a stud so maybe they can be gotten. i'm looking forward to the playoff

Norvell's $64 million buyout leaching significant money away from Republican campaigns

145 feet up in a Jeffrey Pine (Sufjan Grafton), Monday, 21 October 2024 18:11 (eleven months ago)

i think even if they could afford to fire him they wouldn't because after last season the fanbase is too invested in him being the savior. they will have no choice to hit the portal hard again to be competitive bcuz their roster just isn't good, and that might work. but if it doesn't then i'll be very interested to see what happens

slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Monday, 21 October 2024 18:20 (eleven months ago)

in spite of messy officiating, fans throwing bottles on the field, dropped balls, and interceptions, UGA/Texas was a lot of fun to watch

Brad C., Monday, 21 October 2024 18:34 (eleven months ago)

xp They improved each year under Norvell until this season, so he probably is a good coach. Their portal ranking has been fairly consistent, but it seems (at a glance) they took more proven players in '23 compared to '24 - more guys with T ranking > HS ranking.

145 feet up in a Jeffrey Pine (Sufjan Grafton), Monday, 21 October 2024 18:43 (eleven months ago)

Miami have been extremely entertaining this year. Every close game has at least one controversial late call. This most recent one with Louisville was clearly not a fumble, though. The hit on Fernando Mendoza was the definition of targeting, however. Cal were also screwed by the refs in South Bend two years ago, so I feel quite badly for them.

145 feet up in a Jeffrey Pine (Sufjan Grafton), Monday, 21 October 2024 18:51 (eleven months ago)

i definitely think norvell is a good coach, but he's at a school where they expect you to be better than just good. there's still a lot of evidence that you need to recruit HS at a really high level to compete for a national title, regardless of how well you portal, and norvell has never recruited high school well at FSU, even last year. recruiting people have been calling this out for years but he was able to paper over it w/ great portal additions covering the last two seasons. this year they struck out and there is no base talent level to fall back on and the result is the worst season in school history basically. i think his issue is that he's at a job that expects consistent excellence, but in order to be consistently excellent you very likely cannot be relying on the portal bringing in half your starting line up every season

slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Monday, 21 October 2024 18:54 (eleven months ago)

This most recent one with Louisville was clearly not a fumble, though.

(as a miami fan) the thing that was annoying about this is that, in reality, a call wasn't even made. that was standard practice in these exact situations now -- the refs "call" it a touchdown bcuz the rules still stipulate that a call has to be made on the field, but in reality the refs are doing nothing and just waiting to consult the video. the call was always the correct one, which was an incomplete pass. nothing was actually "overturned"

slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Monday, 21 October 2024 18:58 (eleven months ago)

yes, I agree they would have ruled it an incomplete pass in the moment if video review weren't an option.

145 feet up in a Jeffrey Pine (Sufjan Grafton), Monday, 21 October 2024 19:02 (eleven months ago)

I know it's been said, but ESPN's FPI rankings are insane

1. Ohio State (5-1, loss at #8)
2. Texas (6-1, loss to #4)
3. Alabama (5-2, loss at #6, loss at #42)
4. Georgia (6-1, loss at #3)
5. Ole Miss (5-2, loss to #41, loss at #12)
6. Tennessee (6-1, loss at #31)
7. Notre Dame (6-1, loss to #83)
8. Oregon (7-0, beat #1)
9. Penn State (6-0)
10. Miami (7-0)
11. IU (7-0)
12. LSU (6-1, beat #5)
13. Clemson (6-1, loss to #4)
14. TAMU (6-1)
15. USC (3-4)
...
19. Iowa State (7-0)
...
30. BYU (7-0)

i honestly love it

mookieproof, Wednesday, 23 October 2024 19:39 (eleven months ago)

i think georgia and ohio state are still on a different level than anyone else in terms of talent and physical attributes of their players. but their QBs are not that great, or in the case of beck haven't been playing that great. teams like miami and oregon have lesser overall talent but still enough talent to beat them when combined w/ superior QB play. having to beat both ohio state and georgia would be tough for any team though.

god bless florida state (1-9) coach mike norvell for firing both of his coordinators after a 49-point loss #accountability

The Seminoles rank last among 134 FBS teams in scoring with 13.3 points per game and are 101st in scoring defense, surrendering 29.8 points per game.

After flirting with Alabama's vacancy once Nick Saban retired in January, Norvell agreed to a 10-year extension at Florida State that will pay him more than $84 million through the 2031 season.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2025/06/06/house-ncaa-settlement/

“The agreement resolves three antitrust suits against the NCAA — House, Carter and Hubbard — all of which challenged restrictions on athlete compensation. It was hashed out by attorneys for the plaintiffs and six defendants: the NCAA, SEC, Big Ten, ACC, Big 12 and Pac 12. The settlement includes almost $2.8 billion in back damages for former and current athletes (and their lawyers). It also creates a new economic model for top-tier college sports, permitting any Division I school to pay their athletes up to about $20.5 million this coming academic year. That cap will rise incrementally throughout the 10-year life of the settlement.”

The hold on the final play really must be seen. However, we had many chances to ice that game and blew it. Every year with a new D coordinator must start with 2 losses it seems.

145 feet up in a Jeffrey Pine (Sufjan Grafton), Sunday, 14 September 2025 03:55 (one week ago)

But that hold will haunt me. TAMU's Bisontis does a full-body-extension, touchdown-saving shoestring tackle of Hinish, only Bistontis is on offense and that is not allowed at all.

Man that Georgia game. Good stuff

Heez, Sunday, 14 September 2025 10:55 (one week ago)

Gut punch for Vols fans, they had them beat and let them off the hook. Georgia does not look anywhere close as physically dominating as they did a couple years back. They are still good, but their d-line is nowhere close this year- and that was a big part of why they won it all.

earlnash, Sunday, 14 September 2025 11:47 (one week ago)
