Did the title of this thread get roffled?

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 16:13 (nineteen years ago)

that's ok, i'll try to concentrate on what i'm saying from now on. but back to the pats, they have arguably the best qb in the league. they have two decent running backs, dillon hasn't shown a marked decline in skills this preseason so last year's running numbers can probably be blamed on the bum ankle he was running on all year. maroney has looked promising, he should at the very least provide adequate rest for dillon if not challenge for the starting position later in the year. o-line is coming back around, they were without koppen and light last year, both are back and healthy now. the receivers look suspect but i'm guessing ben watson is going to be the featured receiver. the pats experimented with their 4 TE lineup last week with watson split wide.

their d line looks crazy good with warren and seymour on the ends and vince wilfork manning the nose. wilfork finally realized he isn't playing in a 4-3 set in the middle of last year and that's when the pats run d started to gel. his enthusiasm wasn't taking him out of every play. linebackers are a patchwork group but it's a patchwork group of talented veterans. bruschi, seau, vrabel, colvin would probably be the first and second down package with tully banta-cain replacing seau (vrabel moving from outside to inside on passing downs i'm guessing). d-backs are where they're weakest but in an odd twist it's probably where they're deepest as well. the number 3 corner is all but interchangable with the number 6. i have a feeling the nickle, dime, and quarter d-back position will be determined week to week based on who practices best.

this team is going to roll.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 16:20 (nineteen years ago)

they're playing the nfc north and afc south this year, so that's 8 wins for them right there. ben watson's gonna have a monster year.

SLUTSPIRIA (Adrian Langston), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 16:28 (nineteen years ago)

seriously, the nfc north scares me less than the SEC east.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 16:32 (nineteen years ago)

My buddy Frank lives in Buffalo and is the biggest homer in the universe and still claims the Bills are going 4-12.

Saw them play the Browns last Saturday- those old school unis are great.

laurence kansas (lawrence kansas), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 16:39 (nineteen years ago)

the Pats will definitely have a massively winning record, I just am not sure they're gonna roll it all the way. In fact I'd place money on them not rolling it all the way.

Allyzay is cool: with Blue n White, with Eli Manning, with NY Giants (allyzay), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 16:40 (nineteen years ago)

the revolving door of coordinators seems like something to worry about tho. (bold clam: afc south will be worse than nfc north)

patsies just dealt deion branch to the shehawks for their 2007 #1 pick. any member of the pats receiving corps could probably lose his spot on the depth chart to lance alworth at this point.

Why do the Seahawks have three #1 receivers. Why not trade that #1 pick for, say, another defender.

"The Dolphins worked out Charles Rogers on Tuesday, 10 days after the Lions cut the wide receiver they took No. 2 overall in the 2003 draft. The Dolphins also worked out former Florida State wide receiver Craphonso Thorpe. Rogers' past wouldn't necessarily deter Dolphins coach Nick Saban.

How much easier would his life had been had they just named him CRAFONSO, which I'm sure is how it is pronounced. What is wrong with people, saddling this pleasant looking young man with such indignity?

Allyzay is a town of people, people who DIED (allyzay), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 19:44 (nineteen years ago)

The name Craphonso came from a combination of his father’s first and middle names Craig and Alphonso.

What a jerk his dad was!!!

so craiphonso would've been too much to ask? (i'm flashing back to the nic cage snl skit where he finds reasons to reject every name for his impending son because kids will make fun of it. at the end of the skit there's a "delivery for Asswipe Johnson" and cage explodes "IT'S PRONOUNCED AZ-WEE-PEY!!!"

three weeks pass...
BELICHICK, BILL
A staple in the coaching world of the NFL. Baltimore native is in his 28th year of coaching in the NFL. Joined the Baltimore Colts for one year, the Detroit Lions for 2 years, the Denver Broncos for 1 year and then was on the New York Giants coaching staff under Bill Parcells for twelve years and two Super Bowl Championships. He then was named head coach of the Cleveland Browns becoming the youngest ever head coach in the history of the NFL (he was just 38.) Belichick stayed in Cleveland for five years before rejoining Parcells’ coaching staff at the New England Patriots. He went with Parcells to New York to coach the New York Jets for three years, before heading back up to New England, this time as Head Coach of the Patriot, where he currently remains. Belichick’s Patriots won Super Bowl XXXVI and remain a dominating force in the league. Bill Belichick is one of Jon Bon Jovi’s closest friends and it was Bill’s career (the constant ups and downs, wins and losses and headstrong determination) that was the inspiration for the song "Bounce" (in fact, the song is dedicated to Bill Belichick and says so in the album credits.) Belichick is at Bon Jovi shows as often as he’s seen on the sidelines!

Bon Jovi Visits Patriots Camp
Kevin Saleeba
PatriotsInsider.com Aug 15, 2006

As two-a-days wind down, and the end of training camp approaches it's not uncommon to see a special visitor at Gillette Stadium watching the Patriots practice. On Monday one such visitor arrived, rocker Jon Bon Jovi. The normally stoic Bill Belichick had a hard time containing the excitement on his face during the his press conference.

FOXBORO - A famous visitor dropped by Patriots training camp Monday morning.

"We had a special guest at practice today," said New England Head Coach Bill Belichick during Monday's press conference. "That rock guy." Belichick, of course, was referring to rocker Jon Bon Jovi, who dropped in to practice to visit the three-time Super Bowl Champions.

Bon Jovi also came to visit a close friend. "It's good to have Jon around. He's a great friend … It lightens things up a bit around here."

Belichick said he met Bon Jovi while serving as the defensive coordinator of the Super Bowl XXV Champion New York Giants in 1991. "Jon is a huge Giants fan," he said. "He was at the Super Bowl in Tampa. As I've changed teams through the years, he's been to many practices."

Belichick said he has a lot in common with Bon Jovi, the owner of the Philadelphia Soul, an Arena League football team.

"He likes football and I like music," said Belichick with a sly grin. "We have some things in common." When they get together, Belichick said "he talks football and I talk music."

Bon Jovi, who did not speak to the press, took his own photos of the team during practice, and he was also seen waving at fans and talking to Patriots owner Robert Kraft, Patriots Vice President of Personnel Scott Pioli, Offensive guard Stephen Neal, and Offensive tackle Matt Light, among others.

When asked what his favorite Bon Jovi song was, Belichick said, "You're putting me on the spot. There are so many good songs." After a short pause, he then replied, "Living On A Prayer," with that same sly smile.
