Jimmy Mod: THE HANDLESS ORGANIST (The Famous Jimmy Mod), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 22:58 (nineteen years ago)

one month passes...
i think the pats have a pretty good shot at running the table this year. they haven't allowed more than 17 points in any of their games and are something like 4th in the league in points allowed. check out their schedule for the rest of the year:

Oct 30 @Minnesota 8:30pm 125 123
Nov 5 Indianapolis 8:15pm 130
Nov 12 N.Y. Jets 1:00pm 146 146
Nov 19 @Green Bay 1:00pm 122 122
Nov 26 Chicago 1:00pm 117 107
Dec 3 Detroit 1:00pm 122 181
Dec 10 @Miami 1:00pm 110 143
Dec 17 Houston 1:00pm 144 118
Dec 24 @Jacksonville 1:00pm 123 146
Dec 31 @Tennessee 1:00pm 181

there's only one game that i wouldn't consider a gimme (the bears), and that still shouldn't be too hard @ home around thanksgiving. minn's defense is pretty good but that's about it; jax was a punching bag to them last year and that's when they were a playoff team, nevermind now that half their best defensive players are on IR; as for indy... lol. pats are gonna be 14-2 unless tom brady contracts GRIDS before the end of the season. their only concern rn is whether or not they have to face denver in the playoffs, which leads me toooooo...

2006 Denver Broncos
Record: 5 - 1 - 0
Head Coach: Mike Shanahan
Points scored: 79 (#31 of 32 in the NFL) [!!!!!]
Points allowed: 44 (#1 of 32 in the NFL)

with Lepsis gone for the year I was tempted to proclaim them to be FUKKED, i mean you can probz count on one hand the number of left tackles who are better than him. but this game against Indy is gonna be rilly rilly rilly interesting even though i nominally hate both teams with THE HATE OF 1001 HELLS - if the denver d holds its own against wario manning then that could be enough to carry the team a long way.

hahahahaha Wario Manning

I'm going to go San Diego v. Chicago and be wrong on both counts.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 20:12 (nineteen years ago)

yeah I think so. I'M GOING TO GO OUT ON A LIMB AND SAY THIS MIGHT BE INDY'S SHOT!!! And then be subject to ridicule in January for saying it.

Allyzay Eisenschefter (allyzay), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 20:14 (nineteen years ago)

the giants look pretty dang good :( one of the mannings is gonna get their shot this year!!!! oh shit, i forgot the big flaw in my pats-4-world-dominayshun scenario - richard seymour's injured elbow. since BB treats news of player injuries like the location of the ark of the covenant we will just have to see how it plays out this wknd.

(9ò_ó)-o Q(^.^Q) (Adrian Langston), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 20:23 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah but I dont' wanna call on the Giants this early in the season, they always find a way to fuck me in the end.

SOME LOW END BRO (TOMBOT), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 13:03 (nineteen years ago)

i honestly like the pats chances. their schedule is a cake walk the rest of the way so if they could play the colts or chargers at home in january i'd take them in a heartbeat. peyton's track record being what it is in big games and marty schottenheimer being the tactical equivelant of an ice cream headache make me feel pretty good about the chances for the p-men.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 13:07 (nineteen years ago)

Their schedule might be a cake walk but they've already got one more loss than the Colts do so I wouldn't necessarily assume this status will not remain exactly the same throughout the rest of the season, especially since they're going to win their division without even trying--tends to make a team a teensy bit sloppy towards end of season cf Colts last year. So, I'm saying I wouldn't assume they would be playing at home versus either of those teams.

The Broncos??? How many hells would have to freeze over lol.

Allyzay Eisenschefter (allyzay), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 13:17 (nineteen years ago)

pats d is better, they're only allowing 13.3 ppg, a td and extra point less per game than indy. indy also seems to have problems stopping the run as evidenced by the 948 yards they've surrendered on the ground. that's almost twice the 503 yards the pats have given up. if it comes down to a big game i'll always take the brady/bruschi/belicheck triumverate over manning and his hang-dog, "what the heck just happened did i blow another big game?" face.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 17:01 (nineteen years ago)

You sound exactly like every other fan of any other team that's had to play the Colts this year. 948 yards on the ground so far = not enough to beat them, not once, so who cares?

SOME LOW END BRO (TOMBOT), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 17:24 (nineteen years ago)

I thoroughly expect the Colts to win every regular season game they play.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 17:29 (nineteen years ago)

well, we'll find out in two weeks i suppose. either way i'll still take brady/bruschi/belicheck in a big game over manning. until proven otherwise anyway.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 17:35 (nineteen years ago)

November 7, 2005 is coincidentally the last time the Colts and Patriots played! Winner: Colts. By: 19 points. I dunno if this whole "Brady/Belicheck" manlove upping is really worth the time, when was the last "big game" they played? A loss to the fuckin' Broncos, dude.

Allyzay Eisenschefter (allyzay), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 17:41 (nineteen years ago)

i think big games are ones where you lose you go home. last one the pats played they got smoked. but prior to that they had some sucess. everytime manning has played one he's lost.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 17:42 (nineteen years ago)

I'm not saying they might not win over the Colts; I'm saying anyone who seriously is repping the Pats record and ability so far this year is completely deluded. I mean the only remote condender they've played so far is the Broncos*, who they lost to, and who have a complete schizoid for a QB and are probably just going to win by default this year.

* whatever, Bengals fans.

xpost what does the comment about "where you lose you go home" have to do with the upcoming "big game" on 11/5? I don't think the Pats and Colts will get to the point where they even play each other in the postseason; one of those teams and I am actually betting on the Pats to be that team will be watching from home by second game.

Allyzay Eisenschefter (allyzay), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 17:45 (nineteen years ago)

To be totally honest, I even like the Vikings chances next week.

Allyzay Eisenschefter (allyzay), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 17:47 (nineteen years ago)

I will never pick the Colts over the Patriots in a playoff game again until the Colts prove they can win one.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 17:49 (nineteen years ago)

xpost what does the comment about "where you lose you go home" have to do with the upcoming "big game" on 11/5?

uh, nothing. i don't look at it as a big game. i put it in bold because i didn't realize they were playing this year. more of a surprise than anything else. the "big game" comment goes back to my original point:

"their schedule is a cake walk the rest of the way so if they could play the colts or chargers at home in january i'd take them in a heartbeat."

bold there to indicate what i think is a big game. sorry, kind of scattered today and surely not making much sense.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 17:50 (nineteen years ago)

tom jackson to ally and tombahh christ you get the idea. tom's clearly just trying to be an iconoclast by going with the colts/chargers, and as such I wish him nothing but ill.

"You sound exactly like every other fan of any other team that's had to play the Colts this year."

ya lol what were those teams again?

Sep 10 @N.Y. Giants Won 26-21
Sep 17 Houston Won 43-24
Sep 24 Jacksonville Won 21-14
Oct 1 @N.Y. Jets Won 31-28
Oct 8 Tennessee Won 14-13
Week 6 BYE
Oct 22 Washington Won 36-22

there's exactly one team on that schedule that I think you could charitably describe as 'good'. I'll say this - booger mcfarland is gonna look a lot better in indy than he did in tampa for the past few years, and the pats secondary is still pretty ugly (Rodney's losing it - just a couple years ago he would've run away with at least 40% of the "league's dirtiest player" vote, not a paltry 23.) both teams r still gunna be in the playoffs tho so who carez.

(9ò_ó)-o Q(^.^Q) (Adrian Langston), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 17:55 (nineteen years ago)

they really manhandled BYE though

(9ò_ó)-o Q(^.^Q) (Adrian Langston), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 17:56 (nineteen years ago)

also apropos of nothing, cato june has a fantasy team. i'm really tickled by that for some reason.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 19:31 (nineteen years ago)

ade, I wasn't arguing that the COLTS schedule was good at all. Can you explain to me the difference between theirs and the PATS schedule, though? It's a weird argument to be making. The last time they faced each other, the Colts won. I am pretty sure they'd both have to make the championship game to play each other in the postseason. This isn't going to happen so this is a retarded conversation to be having when pplz can be actually realizing that the freakin' Chargers are gonna come in and take all y'all by surprise, including myself.

Allyzay Eisenschefter (allyzay), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 19:54 (nineteen years ago)

ally, i think we're pretty much on the same page! like i'm pretty sure neither of us really thinks the pats or the colts are that great right now (i was totally making that point about the pats schedule btw - it's CAKE, which is why they could conceivably be a #2 or #3 seed come playoff time, same with the colts) (tho apparently richard seymour's injury is worse than anyone thought so who knows). shane lechler is obviously the best player in the game, i mean check out dude's madden rating

The NFL is so even steven these days, I don't have a clue. If it ends up being the Colts, Bengals or Bears, I'm fine with it. The rest of the league can go huff glue.

I just cannot believe my hatred of the rest of the NFC East has me pulling for the Giants in games. I respected the LT, but I freakin' hated the NYG back in the Parcells days. Other than L.T., they were about the most boring good team ever in the NFL. Run the ball left, run the ball right, punt... over and freakin over.

I also like the Viks a bit this year.

I just want the Eagles, Cowboys, Steelers and Skins to all miss the playoffs and I will be happy.

I'm also kind of liking old boy in Miami get his comeuppance with the Dolphins being completely crap. I don't like when tv commentators start calling a coach a "genius" before his team has won diddley crap. LSU is fine, but you know that is the SEC, that is only "kind of like" pro football.

It must be tough being a die hard Cleveland Brown fan these days. The owner steals the team and for joy they come back as the worse team in football.

You forgot Poland Oakland My Pokemans Arizona

SOME LOW END BRO (TOMBOT), Thursday, 26 October 2006 02:48 (nineteen years ago)

The Giants are exciting to watch because of all the times Eli throws to Toomer in triple coverage for no good reason. Eli is kind of cinematic with the sheer number of powerfully telegraphed mistakes he makes and gets away with in the end. If they don't make it to the NFC championship I'm blaming it all on Jerry Jones being a cheapskate and knocking out LAvar + Osi with his bullshit velcro turf.

SOME LOW END BRO (TOMBOT), Thursday, 26 October 2006 02:52 (nineteen years ago)

Not on their coach? Good with the bad and all that I guess...

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Thursday, 26 October 2006 06:18 (nineteen years ago)

I see the bigger picture. Hatin' Tom Coughlin is officially played as of beating the tapeworms out of the Skins.

SOME LOW END BRO (TOMBOT), Thursday, 26 October 2006 12:52 (nineteen years ago)

It is a good point to make though, I mean in this day and age really owners who still have astroturf in their stadiums need to be fined every single injury that occurs in their stadium.

Allyzay Eisenschefter (allyzay), Thursday, 26 October 2006 13:10 (nineteen years ago)

the pats are switching over from natural grass to field turf as they couldn't keep the grass alive in their state of the art stadium. apparently it came as a shock that it sometimes gets cold in new england between september and january and grass goes dormant.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 26 October 2006 13:19 (nineteen years ago)

And grass gets killed like a mofo in AZ, but they still keep the grass and try to maintain it. Astroturf + frost is an even worse combination than astroturf + not frost, ask Jim Kelly's knees sometime. Good to know ya, Tom Brady!

Allyzay Eisenschefter (allyzay), Thursday, 26 October 2006 13:32 (nineteen years ago)

I mean, seriously if the BIDWELLS are willing to sit there and fart around with dead grass no one has much of an excuse. Turf is dangerous.

Allyzay Eisenschefter (allyzay), Thursday, 26 October 2006 13:32 (nineteen years ago)

not astroturf, field turf, that synthetic rubbery grass on a sand bed. supposed to be more cushiony that grass.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 26 October 2006 13:43 (nineteen years ago)

Grass is hearty and can be kept in good shape in winter. What happened to Yankee ingenuity in New England? I ask you.

Grass is hearty and can be kept in good shape in winter. What happened to Yankee ingenuity in New England? I ask you

they installed a state-of-the-art system under the turf that would heat the ground to keep it from freezing and feeling like cement but it wound up killing the grass in the process.

cushiony but what about re: traction issues?

i don't know, it's the same stuff they use in philly's new stadium and i think in seattle. i know u dub has used it for years and the pats indoor practice facilty has it.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 26 October 2006 14:52 (nineteen years ago)

Hmmmmmmmm both of those teams have had some ugly injuries but I don't think they're unusual in number so I will take a wait and see on this turf. That being said, it still doesn't absolve the Cowboys and their ancient ass stadium tearin' shit up :(

Allyzay Eisenschefter (allyzay), Thursday, 26 October 2006 15:00 (nineteen years ago)

i'm pretty sure most players prefer FieldTurf to real grass even, but i might just be making that up. consider me bummed that NE is switching to it though, football is MADE for lumpy, misshapen, dangerous field conditions, cf. pittsburgh in january

(9ò_ó)-o Q(^.^Q) (Adrian Langston), Thursday, 26 October 2006 15:49 (nineteen years ago)

the league is making them do something about the state of their field. i agree on the lumpy, misshapen frozen fields. nothing like getting an arm sliced open by a chunk of frozen sod (as happened to me on the frozen tundra of lowell, ma in 1987).

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 26 October 2006 15:54 (nineteen years ago)

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 26 October 2006 18:18 (nineteen years ago)

two weeks pass...
SO NOW WHAT. I am actually feeling good at NEW YORK JETS making a run for division. Baltimore, Indy, Hippies are the pix to win their division, either NYJ or NE obviously (loser of that battle is wildcard) with SD as wildcard. And yes, I am openly predicting that SD will find a way to fuck up the fact that they and Denver are tied right now.

NFC is much easier, Giants, New Orleans, Seattle, Chicago barring teams dying in a horrible plane accident or something. Philly & Atlanta as tentative wildcards though I am wondering if GB will make some kind of last ditch run and make it on the basis of Philly & Atlanta sucking so badly.

Dallas is going to find a way to blow themselves up.

Well, for one thing, San Diego plays Denver twice, and their defense is in shambles right now. That would be a solid way to fuck things up. But if Denver is going to keep playing down to their competition, I don't think it will matter much.

That's what I meant though, Denver is kind of playing like sloppy douches right now, and SD COULD beat them despite the unlikelihood on paper. I just think SD will figure out a way to lose, even if Denver plays shitty.

GUYS I FORGOT ABOUT CAROLINA, CAROLINA MIGHT TAKE THE WILDCARD SPOT FROM ATLANTA IF THEY CAN STOP BEING DOUCHEBAGS. NFC: NOT AS EASY AS PREVIOUSLY PREDICTED.

SD is much better at finding a way to lose in the playoffs than finding a way to lose in the regular season, though.
