Sunday Night Football on a Thursday, Manning vs. Manning, every single receiver in the league has a pulled hamstring. Go.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 7 September 2006 20:26 (nineteen years ago)

The over/under on season-ending injuries (to stars, not just schmoes on the return squad) that will occur this week: three.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 7 September 2006 20:28 (nineteen years ago)

Hey, all right, I'm loaded with shmoos.

mookieproof (mookieproof), Friday, 8 September 2006 03:52 (nineteen years ago)

Nice to see Charlie Batch play well (3 TDs! I think the last time he did that was the first post-Barry game, opener against Seabags at the Kingdome -- 3 TD's to Germane Crowell.)

Steelers still look real, real tough. Parker is the kind of back you just love to watch.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Friday, 8 September 2006 03:53 (nineteen years ago)

Saban was right to be pissed at that defensive back that created that dumb penalty on third and long early in the second half. Even though Batch fumbled the ball at the goal line after that long drive, that penalty was the turning point of the game. The Dolphin D just seemed to lose a step after that long drive and the Steelers made the Dolphins resort to a total vertical passing game which didn't work.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Friday, 8 September 2006 04:22 (nineteen years ago)

Agreed; it defused their running game and put everything in the hand of Culpepper, who was playing like he had something to prove. He didn't prove it.
Joey Porter is generally annoying but between his Culpepper roll after the second sack and his brief romance with Cowher, he won the FATHEAD ENTERTAINING PLAYER OF THE GAME AWARD.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Friday, 8 September 2006 04:32 (nineteen years ago)

Also Saban's unassertive, wishy-washy flag-toss was the stuff of feeble legend. but hey, on talk radio for the rest of the season he can always claim "hey, I threw the flag!"

Whatta loser. LOLing big time at every gambler that lost money on the fins tonight. LOLing big time.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 8 September 2006 13:50 (nineteen years ago)

i missed the second half of the game so i have no idea what you folks are talking about. did saban give a limp-wristred sissy toss on a challenge? did the 'hins lose? were the two related?

otto midnight (otto midnight), Friday, 8 September 2006 14:00 (nineteen years ago)

He triple-clutched tossing a challenge flag after Pittsburgh scored on a 70+ yd reception while they set up for the extra point. Replays showed that the receiver was actually out @ the 1, so it might've been delaying the inevitable, but he kinda screwed the pooch.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 8 September 2006 14:23 (nineteen years ago)

good, this bodes well for the pats. anytime you have pooch-screwing coaches in your division it helps.

Mary (Mary), Friday, 8 September 2006 22:55 (nineteen years ago)

It would not have mattered if they went to instant replay and put the ball on the one. I think the odds of Miami holding them to a field goal were slight at best and the Steelers would have just burned off another minute or two off the clock.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Saturday, 9 September 2006 05:43 (nineteen years ago)

No, that's absolutely true!! ..... but, Saban's still a puss..

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 9 September 2006 05:52 (nineteen years ago)

One game I think all of the talking heads could be way off on is Dallas and Jacksonville. They are ready to annoint the Cowboys, Parcells, "the player" and all a trip to the superbowl, when they forget that J-ville was a much better club last year and they are playing at hime.

J-Ville's defense was really nasty and mean last year, especially their front line. Bledsoe is about as mobile as Bernie Kosar these days, that is to say not mobile at all. Bledsoe is only as good as the time he is given to throw. Leftwich is healthy and he is quite solid. I just think the Jags are getting sold short in this equasion.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Saturday, 9 September 2006 05:53 (nineteen years ago)

the odds of Miami holding them to a field goal were slight at best

and yet, on their previous possession, Pittsburgh turned the ball over on the goal line!

uh, what?

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 11 September 2006 17:55 (nineteen years ago)

cooper is the oldest, he was a wideout at ole miss but had a degenerative spine disorder that left him vulnerable to paralysis the next time he takes a shot to the back. archie, peyton, and eli all say he was the best athlete in the family.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Monday, 11 September 2006 17:58 (nineteen years ago)

Wiki on Cooper:
He was an All-State wide receiver in high school before the diagnosis of a congenital neurologic malformation spinal stenosis ended his career at Ole Miss.

Ah, not necessarily degenerative, but enough to knock him out of sports.

Face Me Story: My biggest fear growing up was heights. At 17 I joined the army to Jump out of planes. I had never been in an airplane, but didn't care. I continued jumping in the army for 6 1/2 years from different planes, helicopters, and even a hot air balloon. I also managed somewhere between 50-60 bungee jumps while stationed in Korea. I have never seen a more thorough ass-beating than the Chargers' win tonight. They quietly scored 13 points and then just run the ball down the Raiders throat for the remainder of the night. San Diego's front seven looked unbelievable against a pathetic offensive gameplan. Aaron Brooks sucks; Shawne Merriman is unbelievable.

Ice Cream Electric (Ice Cream Electric), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 20:52 (nineteen years ago)

A couple of things I noticed looking at the box scores of the games I did not see.

The Broncos lost because of turnovers (pretty obvious I know), they ran all over the Rams on the ground. The Rams offensive numbers were pretty meh. I'll be surpised if the Rams keep winning and the Broncos keep losing.

Is Buffalo's defense any good or is NE offense that bad? This will be interesting to see how this plays out. Brady's numbers looked like shit. The Pats run totals were not bad, but look at Brady's line.

New England Comp Att Yds Pct Y/A Sack YdsL TD Int
T. Brady 11 23 163 47.8 7.1 3 27 2 1

Somehow they are not calling for a QB change like Favre, Bledsoe or Hippy Snake.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 02:46 (nineteen years ago)

because he has won three super bowls and they haven't? DO YOU THINK

mookieproof (mookieproof), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 03:02 (nineteen years ago)

Everyone's already decided that Brady's gonna have a decent year but that he has no receivers; three more games like that and they'll Favre him plenty.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 04:28 (nineteen years ago)

when you say brady has no receivers you're absolutely right. they only dressed 3 wr's for sundays game with doug gabriel inactive and chad jackson nursing a bad hammy. that left richocet caldwell, grandpa troy brown, and bam childress (who was active for more games as a db than wr last year) at wide out. i don't know if brady will have a great year numbers wise but i can't imagine anyone calling for matt cassell anytime soon.

pats are going to run the ball, control the clock, utilize their te's and keep their d off the field for as long as possible. by controlling the clock (and hopefully playing with a lead) they'll be able to mask their biggest liability on defense (aging linebackers with no lateral speed) while playing to their two biggest strengths (d-line and d-backs). this year reminds me a lot of 2001 pats with antwain smith dictating the tempo and brady going to the air almost exclusively with short, controlled passes. it was troy brown and david patten that year, i can't remember who else was even on the team (except terry glenn who never played).

otto midnight (otto midnight), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 12:48 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, the idea that it's cos of his SB history or some bias towards him is silly, I mean Favre has a ring too. It's because Tom Brady is A) not old B) not known for being a completely inexplicable fuck up. Plummer's had exactly one (1) good year in his, what, 7, 8 year career? And Bledsoe and Favre combine to be 723 years old. I kind of think B&F's coaches are total choads for even starting those dudes at all.
