The Deal: The Titans wanted to have a veteran help foster Young, it pissed Volek off and backfired and know they have to rush in a rookie qb well before he's ready because Collins has had little luck learning an entirely new offensive system in about two weeks.
Everybody got screwed. Rah team!

INCEPTAVERDE WAS LAME WELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL B4 HE JOINED THE JETS. HE WAS BORN THAT WAY. WHAT DO YOU MAKE OF TEH HOSSSSTETLER?

Anyway I'm wondering if maybe there is something in the owner's contract that stipulates all teams must play Kerry Collins at least once?

Allyzay is a town of people, people who DIED (allyzay), Thursday, 21 September 2006 12:46 (nineteen years ago)

also calling Kerry Collins a "New York QB" is pretty lame, RG. He will always be a Panther, to me.

Allyzay is a town of people, people who DIED (allyzay), Thursday, 21 September 2006 12:48 (nineteen years ago)

He will always be a Panther, to me
is that billy joel?

"he might cry like a woman
but he's always a panther to me..."

Allyzay is a town of people, people who DIED (allyzay), Thursday, 21 September 2006 14:17 (nineteen years ago)

i'm guessing starting kerry collins was the most effective way jeff fisher could think of to shatter billy volek's psyche. i mean, if volek can't beat THIS guy out of a job...

...the Giants advanced all the way to the Ravens' 29-yard line on their ensuing drive, but Baltimore defensive back Chris McAlister intercepted a pass from Kerry Collins to keep New York scoreless by halftime.

The Giants then forced the Ravens to punt on the opening drive of the second half. But 5 plays later, Baltimore safety Kim Herring intercepted Collins at the New York 41-yard line.

After an exchange of punts, Baltimore defensive back Duane Starks intercepted a pass from Collins and returned it 49 yards for a touchdown, setting off a chain of events unseen before in Super Bowl history: three touchdowns on three consecutive plays in just 36 seconds.

Overall, both teams combined for only 396 total yards, the lowest in Super Bowl history.

Giants punter Brad Maynard set a rather undesirable Super Bowl record with 11 punts.

Scoring summary:

* BAL- Stokley 38 pass from Dilfer (Stover kick)
* BAL- FG Stover 47
* BAL- Starks 49 interception return (Stover kick)
* NYG- Dixon 97 kickoff return (Daluiso kick)
* BAL- Je. Lewis 84 kickoff return (Stover kick)
* BAL- Ja. Lewis 3 run (Stover kick)
* BAL- FG Stover 34

I'm going to delete this thread if none of you can address the topic at hand, which is why Kerry Collins keeps getting bloody hired.

Allyzay is a town of people, people who DIED (allyzay), Thursday, 21 September 2006 16:47 (nineteen years ago)

i really and truly believe it was psychological warfare by jeff fisher against billy volek.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 21 September 2006 17:03 (nineteen years ago)

He's not technically a racist alcoholic anymore and he gave like a bunch of thousands of dollars to the Red Cross Katrina fund last year. Then got cut to save cap room for the lol raiders.

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Thursday, 21 September 2006 17:06 (nineteen years ago)

Titans have a new OC this year straight from USC. Maybe he and Volek hated each other. BTW did you guys know that the reason Fisher didn't play in Super Bowl XX is because Bill Cowher broke his fucking leg? Haw Haws.

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Thursday, 21 September 2006 17:08 (nineteen years ago)

psychological warfare against Titans fans, also. Maybe Bill Cowher should break Kerry Collins's legs.

Allyzay is a town of people, people who DIED (allyzay), Thursday, 21 September 2006 17:09 (nineteen years ago)

Hiring Kerry Collins is not nearly as stupid as hiring Jeff George.

Ice Cream Electric (Ice Cream Electric), Thursday, 21 September 2006 23:02 (nineteen years ago)

I don't think it is all on Collins. The Titans are pathetic with no run game, no decent recievers of note and their once stout defense is a joke. If you put McNair on that team, they still would have gotten stomped in both games.

The problem is that the Titans have not been able to replace Wycheck, Mason, and Eddie George. Wycheck got hurt, Eddie George got old and Derrick Mason wanted paid. This is just the offensive problems, let alone losing guys like Kearse leave and wasting picks on guys like Pacman Jones.

It is hard to build a decent club. It is even more difficult to rebuild while still putting a competitive team on the field. I don't think Tennesse has to worry about cleaning things out, they don't have anything left other than the head coach from when they were once good. In a few weeks, they won't even have the coach.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Friday, 22 September 2006 01:15 (nineteen years ago)

I remember Pac-Man Jones from when he was at WVU. He was an asshat then and he's an asshat now. I'm also not entirely sold on Vince Young. Before the beginning of the 2005-2006 college season he was being projected as at best an early second round draft pick. He throws with an odd sidearm motion and when he played against a decent defense i.e. OSU looked ordinary.

The Titans are going to be a bad team for a very long time.

Ice Cream Electric (Ice Cream Electric), Friday, 22 September 2006 02:19 (nineteen years ago)

...and bringing in tommy maddox for a workout

mookieproof (mookieproof), Friday, 22 September 2006 03:47 (nineteen years ago)

Titans have a new OC this year straight from USC. Maybe he and Volek hated each other.

This is Norm's second year in Nashville actually. Based on how chummy he became with Vince Young in the off season, it's possible he flat out didn't want to work with Volek anymore.

While Volek is far from the elite class of QBs in the league, he's a solid manager of games and never wastes plays. I still have absolutely NO IDEA why bringing in Kerry Collins seemed like a good idea, because his decline in NY was quick and his performance with Oakland last year was less than admirable. Volek always won games when McNair was injured/out. I'd be surprised if Collins didn't get beaten in scrimmages.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Friday, 22 September 2006 04:53 (nineteen years ago)

Titans have a new OC this year straight from USC.

Actually, he was there last year as well. But yeah, Chow and Volek apparently didn't see eye to eye on much.
