THE GREATEST SUPER BOWL TEAMS OF ALL TIME AS DECLARED BY GENE HACKMAN

Guys, does anyone else get really irritated by that fucking NFL Network commercial for their greatest SB teams show? I mean, the fact that the exciting story of glamour and grit and achievement and blow jobs that they choose to highlight is Tom Brady talking about spiking the ball and running off the field so the clock don't run out. WTF? Joe Montana too retarded to speak these days? Emmitt Smith too busy dancing?? Seriously, they couldn't get Vinateri to tell the exciting half of that story? What is that about? Gene Hackman, you suck.

i'm irritated by the nfl network in general because i don't have cable. the thought of the nfl turning into mlb really really really sucks.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 23 October 2006 16:49 (nineteen years ago)

You're eventually going to have to give that up you know, though probably not for another 5-10 years, cos you won't be able to get any network television at all without it. That being said, have you tried just plugging the coax into your tv? Sometimes they aren't dead links; I got a lot of random cable networks for a year or two in NYC just by doing that.

yeah, with digital cable it's not dead until they physically make a switch in the junction box on a pole near your place. they physically made that switch on me after a couple of months at my new place. i won't care about not having network tv either, the only things i ever watch anymore are baseball and football anyway and that's what bars are for.

At the end of the season, there comes a shining moment.

SOME LOW END BRO (TOMBOT), Monday, 23 October 2006 17:23 (nineteen years ago)

yeah like spiking the ball and running off the field like a gaywad.

Allyzay lives aprox. 200 feet away from a stadium (allyzay), Monday, 23 October 2006 17:29 (nineteen years ago)

yeah i know about the coax thing, doesn't work at my new place for some reason. i'd probably only get msg tho if it did. fuck the knicks.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 23 October 2006 17:33 (nineteen years ago)

yeah the knicks are crap, I can get behind that.

every year seems like 1973 in those things

from the dusty land of tyler, texas... comes a PUNishing running back by the name of EEEAAAAAHHHHHHHHRRRRRRRRLLLLLLL CAAAMMMpbell.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Monday, 23 October 2006 17:52 (nineteen years ago)

everything looks better in slow motion

Allyzay lives aprox. 200 feet away from a stadium (allyzay), Monday, 23 October 2006 17:59 (nineteen years ago)

it's a little weird to see a grainy, slow mo vince young complete with nfl films V.O., "and Vince Young drove the Titans downfield for a crucial turnover".

gear (gear), Monday, 23 October 2006 18:04 (nineteen years ago)

Did you ever see the Barry Sanders retrospective where they had the NFL Films of him fucking up? They were making some point about how he was so awesome that he could fuck up and look awesome and then went straight to a slo-mo highlight reel of Barry Sanders getting his ass kicked all over the field and losing yardage left and right with the music and everything.

Allyzay lives aprox. 200 feet away from a stadium (allyzay), Monday, 23 October 2006 18:09 (nineteen years ago)

I hope that was intentional, gear.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 23 October 2006 18:09 (nineteen years ago)

it's a weird, nfl-specific thing to render these games into instant oversized history.

lol barry sander's lowlights are like the last twenty bears running backs' highlights ; (

haha yes

gear (gear), Monday, 23 October 2006 18:12 (nineteen years ago)

When I think of NFL Films, I think of:

- the Raider theme
- icy tundra
- Chris Berman bellowing "LAMBEAU FIELD"

Shoot me now.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 23 October 2006 18:18 (nineteen years ago)

BTW, I heard Harry Kalas calling the ATL / PIT game on the radio while driving around yesterday. *swoooooon*

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 23 October 2006 18:19 (nineteen years ago)

I'm irritated that Time Warner Cable is not carrying the NFL Network in my area.

hearditonthexico (rogermexico), Monday, 23 October 2006 18:35 (nineteen years ago)

lol I downloaded teh complete NFL Films music collection. THE AUTUMN WIND... IS A RAIDER

also, who else is bummed that the NFL Network apparently doesn't do game of the week anymore? I concede that NFL Replay is totally fucking awesome and it's wayyy overdue but I miss the trad game of the week stuff. inside the nfl ain't cuttin it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and yeah these commercials are so stupid. I liked the Simms/Parcells one though.

(9ò_ó)-o Q(^.^Q) (Adrian Langston), Monday, 23 October 2006 18:46 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah Tom was just saying about that too, what happened to Game of the Week. I want to see Game of the Week, I want that weird film quality, I want the slow mo and the music. Also I own the NFL Films music collection.

how can you do this? when i had to watch fever pitch during an english class in college i had to leave the room cause i got too upset. like i literally cannot think about anything that happened in october 2004 without wanting to throw up.

Barack HUSSEIN Obama (max), Tuesday, 30 September 2008 16:47 (seventeen years ago)

literally

Barack HUSSEIN Obama (max), Tuesday, 30 September 2008 16:49 (seventeen years ago)

Actually I don't think it was an NFL guy -- I think that was some ILXer talking wrongheaded smack about knowing shit because they lived only 200 feet away from a stadium.

David R., Tuesday, 30 September 2008 17:03 (seventeen years ago)

o rly i think that might be true

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Tuesday, 30 September 2008 17:06 (seventeen years ago)

i am fucked up, max. my baby sister came to visit me this weekend and i made her watch the 1990 NFL films Bills highlights with me. the end is, of course, the Super Bowl with the Belichick and the Norwood and the wide right. except the reel is FROM 1991, so the inevitability of history hasn't borne down on Bills fans yet, and the narrator is all cheerily, "whatevs, the Bills are awesome right now; they'll definitely bring home the Lombardi soon!!!" my sister had already begun muttering, "this is awful; why are you making me watch this" and when that part happened she gave me the dagger eyes.

i actually think i am trapped in the trauma of the '90s and until the Bills win a Super Bowl i am just doomed to live that field goal over and over.

horseshoe, Tuesday, 30 September 2008 17:46 (seventeen years ago)

lol i am such a drama queen

horseshoe, Tuesday, 30 September 2008 17:47 (seventeen years ago)

a simpler way of saying all of that is that if you are a fan of a team like the bills you are by definition a masochist.

horseshoe, Tuesday, 30 September 2008 17:56 (seventeen years ago)

Barack HUSSEIN Obama (max), Tuesday, 30 September 2008 18:44 (seventeen years ago)
