His name is pretty fly.

Allyzay Eisenschefter (allyzay), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 20:22 (nineteen years ago)

I think it's hard to argue that he isn't either the best or second best tight end in the league. Gates isn't the blocker that Crumpler is, and Crumpler's pass catching skills are finally starting to get some deserved exposure.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 20:43 (nineteen years ago)

some deserved exposure

= Michael Vick has a pathological fear of wide receivers

hearditonthexico (rogermexico), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 20:47 (nineteen years ago)

I went to elementary school with a kid named Algernon. I never gave him any flowers, though.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 20:51 (nineteen years ago)

michael vick's receivers have a pathological fear of not dropping passes

alge's as well-rounded as they get, there's certainly nobody in the NFC who stacks up to him. I think Gonzo's probably still at the top of the heap (lol geddit) - he's an asset as a blocker even if he's not super dominant, and i'd say he's faster and more athletic than gates. i know the LOL DID U KNOW THAT HE PLAYED BASKETBALL, A BLOO BLOO BLOO stuff is overdone, but it's so tru w/gates! his ball skills and the way he uses his size & strength are pretty much unparalleled.

lol james otm. i think roddy white has lower self-esteem than any wide receiver i've ever seen. he's like droopy dog (lol moar liek dropsy dog)

(9ò_ó)-o Q(^.^Q) (Adrian Langston), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 21:39 (nineteen years ago)

i kinda wish i had ol' alge on my team this year. ;_;

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 21:54 (nineteen years ago)

I think we're related, and I think Cousin Alge owes me some money.

Django Blowhardt (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 22:09 (nineteen years ago)

the only one in the nfc who is any competition as a TE is colston and that's only in yahoo fantasy leagues where he can play as one, lol ; (

gear (gear), Wednesday, 1 November 2006 01:05 (nineteen years ago)

Except that he did it for Kent State or whatever, whereas Tony Gonzalez guided Cal to a Sweet 16 game, for fuck's sake.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Wednesday, 1 November 2006 07:02 (nineteen years ago)

hey well he won a conference championship! i don't know which one kent's in (probably a shitty one), but still.

(9ò_ó)-o Q(^.^Q) (Adrian Langston), Wednesday, 1 November 2006 07:24 (nineteen years ago)

I just like saying "for fuck's sake".

polyphonic (polyphonic), Wednesday, 1 November 2006 21:27 (nineteen years ago)

so ronald curry should be playing tight end then?

otto midnight (otto midnight), Wednesday, 1 November 2006 21:34 (nineteen years ago)

kellen winslow is my TE in my fantasy league -- as was todd heap (till i traded him).

Eisbär (llamasfur), Wednesday, 1 November 2006 21:34 (nineteen years ago)

i had shockey, mcmichael, and whoever the young dude for pittsburgh is. i dealt him for matt jones pre-season as i was thin at wr.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Wednesday, 1 November 2006 22:04 (nineteen years ago)

Algie is a total beast for a DB to try to bring down. He seems to get a lot of extra yards carrying a corner on his back until a safety comes along to help get him down.

As for TE's that played hoop, how about current Detroit Lion and ex-Colt Marcus Pollard. That guy didn't even play college football, he played hoop at Bradley. Pollard was from Indianapolis and got a workout with the Colts and impressed them enough to give him a shot. The guy has ended up playing it out into a pretty nice career (10th season). Pollard is not a star like Crumpler or Tony G, but I swear the dude was doing the dunk the football over the goalpost before Gonzales. I hated to see him leave Indy.

Antonio Gates was apart of the Kent State team that went to the Sweet 16 in 2002. The MAC conference has been doing pretty good the past few years in the first couple weeks of the NCAA tournament and there are a slew of pros in both hoops and football from that conference.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Thursday, 2 November 2006 02:05 (nineteen years ago)

I don't think Tony Gonzalez did a whole lot of leading for the Cal Hoops team, like the only reason he started was because of his football work.

Huh, I had no idea. Kent State! I stand corrected.

Incorrect. He was the key performer of the team in both tourney games after Ed Gray done broke himself and everyone wrote the Bears off as a likely first round casualty. He also was the second best player on the team for the early part of the season. That was my first year at Cal, so it's a pretty fresh memory.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Thursday, 2 November 2006 21:40 (nineteen years ago)

didn't kent go to the elite 8 in '02?

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 2 November 2006 21:49 (nineteen years ago)

Wikipedia: Gates spent two seasons as a Golden Flashes power forward, where he led the team to an Elite Eight spot in 2002 and to the MAC championship game his last season there.

OMG I love him even more than I did before!

polyphonic (polyphonic), Thursday, 2 November 2006 22:02 (nineteen years ago)

winlsow's all pissed in the paper today. thinks he should be the Chargers TE. Thanks Kellen!

lk (lawrence kansas), Thursday, 2 November 2006 22:09 (nineteen years ago)

Sorry Kel Jr, your services are not needed.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Thursday, 2 November 2006 22:14 (nineteen years ago)

That article is hilarious. What a chump.

K2 wants to show San Diegans they're missing the real deal.

"I look at it as a heavyweight match. It's me vs. Gates," Winslow said Wednesday. "I want to be the best tight end out there, and I've got to go do it on Sunday. You know, Tony's right behind me, Gates is right behind me. So I've got to stay on top."

polyphonic (polyphonic), Thursday, 2 November 2006 22:19 (nineteen years ago)

I'm so tempted to bet the Browns. 12 and a half point spread! I know they won't cover though :'"-(

lk (lawrence kansas), Thursday, 2 November 2006 22:22 (nineteen years ago)

No Phillips, no Merriman... they could quite possibly cover the spread, although the game being in San Diego doesn't help.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Thursday, 2 November 2006 22:25 (nineteen years ago)

hm

lk (lawrence kansas), Thursday, 2 November 2006 22:30 (nineteen years ago)

as long as kellen winslow can get me 10+ fantasy league points per game, i don't care where he thinks he should or shouldn't play.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Thursday, 2 November 2006 23:02 (nineteen years ago)

poly, I also went to UCB, though I came in a year later. What dept. were you in?

c('°c) (Leee), Friday, 3 November 2006 22:31 (nineteen years ago)

according to my fantasy stats, marques colston is the best tight end in the game : D

gear (gear), Friday, 3 November 2006 22:37 (nineteen years ago)

omar little, Friday, 15 February 2008 19:43 (seventeen years ago)

so are the falcons just going to suit up the grey team from the blue/grey game or what?

chicago kevin, Friday, 15 February 2008 21:10 (seventeen years ago)

I figure it was three things why Atlanta cut the rope on Crumpler.

1. He is due to make a truckload of cash.
2. Whether true or not, I don't know as I haven't watched the Falcons, it seems I see Crumpler getting tagged on for dropping a bunch of balls.
3. The dude was on TV a bunch ragging on the Falcons front office.

I don't think it is any big shakes, the guy will most likely be a starter for someone next year.

earlnash, Sunday, 17 February 2008 00:16 (seventeen years ago)

i think #3 goes for everyone who suited up for atlanta last year. i think it was probably #1 coupled with the fact that they know they aren't winning anything in the near future.
