Seattle at San Francisco the suddenly frisky 49ers are intriguing here.
Indianapolis at Dallas i dunno, i think someone will beat the colts and this might be the last chance for someone to do it. as long as bledsoe stays on the sidelines anyway.
San Diego at Denver marty's screwed up yin compensates for last week's masterful yang.

OK, the one BAD thing about the Yellow Card - it doesn't really allow for non-conspicuous work-day net browsing.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 16 November 2006 15:59 (nineteen years ago)

I don't want to go complain about the URL thing on the mod board because some fucking stick in the mud will go on for 73 posts about how we shouldn't be putting IMG tags in the comments anyway. :\

Anyway anyone want to take bets on Brady being pulled from Sunday's game the second he starts mad bombing again?

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 16 November 2006 18:23 (nineteen years ago)

Oboy hahah:

Between increased media coverage and reality television, there isn't much that happens to celebrities these days that isn't caught on camera. All of which makes it especially sad that perhaps the single hardest-blowing confrontation in the history of mankind somehow took place this week while avoiding a camera.

The Charlotte Observer reports that Keyshawn Johnson had a "talk" with Joe Theisman regarding some comments the Monday Night Football announcer made years ago. Johnson, who was apparently upset that Theisman once called him an "idiot" for his behavior in Tampa Bay, said he "just told him that's not acceptable."

Then, in a comment that's just begging to be mocked, Johnson added: "I'm a guy with a degree from the University of Southern California. Idiots don't get degrees." Lastly, Johnson warned that he's "not going to be so nice" next time Theisman calls him an idiot, which shows a surprising amount of self-awareness in at least acknowledging that the opportunity is likely to present itself again.

While we try to make sense of a world that has a dozen cameras focused on Paris Hilton at any given time, yet can't catch Keyshawn Johnson scolding Joe Theisman, here are some other notes from around football …

c('°c) (Leee), Thursday, 16 November 2006 18:29 (nineteen years ago)

THAT'S HILARIOUS. 1) Joe Theismann, you too are an idiot 2) WTF does that mean, not going to be so nice next time? PLEASE tell me that means Keyshawn is going to put a hit on Theismann.

Allyzay Eisenschefter (allyzay), Thursday, 16 November 2006 18:34 (nineteen years ago)

Keyshawn would have to catch Theisman first though.

Allyzay Eisenschefter (allyzay), Thursday, 16 November 2006 19:00 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, I'm all for people holding Theisman accountable for the ridiculousness he spouts on MNF.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Thursday, 16 November 2006 19:14 (nineteen years ago)

Guys I just found out that the way he pronounces his name currently is completely not how his name was supposed to be pronounced and he changed it to what it is now to rhyme with "Heisman" in college and I hate him EVEN MORE.

Allyzay Eisenschefter (allyzay), Thursday, 16 November 2006 19:16 (nineteen years ago)

ew. that's gross.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Thursday, 16 November 2006 19:17 (nineteen years ago)

I can't remember if this got mentioned in the MNF thread, but did you guys watch the MNF maybe a month ago, with Charles Barkeley as a guest in the booth? and someone asked him if he'd ever played football and he was basically like, "no, I'm not that dumb," and then went off about how anyone who boxes/plays football for too long ends up braindead? and then all the commentators were looking at their shoes, all AWKWARD, and tried not to look at Theisman? and then after the commercial break, Barkley caught his snap and was all, "I'm Joe Theisman's biggest fan!" yeah. I am evil, because that shit had me in hysterics.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Thursday, 16 November 2006 19:20 (nineteen years ago)

November 17 – Professional football player and former Bruin Marcus Cassel, 23, died early Friday morning after his speeding vehicle slammed into a tree in a Santa Monica park, coming to rest just feet from a seaside cliff, police said.

The Carolina Panther cornerback was speeding down Santa Monica Boulevard, when his vehicle continued past Ocean Avenue, broke a fence and ended up in the seaside park, police said

“The vehicle (struck) a tree and then rolled over on itself coming to rest against a cement light standard,” Capt. Alex Padilla Padilla, the Police Department spokesman, told the Lookout News. “Firefighters used their extrication tools to free Mr. Cassel from the vehicle.”

Although paramedics stabilized Cassel and he was transported to a local hospital, “he later died as a result of the injuries he suffered in the traffic accident,” Padilla said.

No one else was in the vehicle, police said.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

A tow-truck hauled the Burgundy SUV perched on its side around 1:45 Friday.

Some trash lay strewn next to the vehicle, which many have run over the Will Rogers plaque, causing it to flip, according to a vendor at the scene.

A talented defensive back in college, Cassel was placed in injured reserve August 30, according to the NFL.

Hailing from Carson, the 6 foot 189 pound Cassel was a starting corner back in 2004 for the Bruins, according to the UCLA Bruins Web site.

In 2004 alone, he made 33 tackles and his two fumble recoveries tied for fourth in the PAC 10 (0.18) per game.

Cassel, who was not picked in the draft, was signed as a free agent by the Panthers in May and given a $1,000 signing bonus, according to the team’s Web site.

The Santa Monica Police Department is investigating the cause of the traffic accident. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Detective Chris Dawson at (310) 458-8954.

I laughed when I learned that the Denver offensive line doesn't do press, which extends to not doing the intros on MNF. "TOM NALEN, CENTER, BOSTON COLLEGE"... instead they just had still graphics. How much do you have to hate the media to not even introduce yourself on MNF?

polyphonic (polyphonic), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 15:50 (nineteen years ago)

How long has that tradition been going on with Denver? I know it's been quite a few years.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 16:02 (nineteen years ago)

a long-ass time, at least since their first SB win. i think it started w/the philosophy that the o-line should be completely anonymous, and that the only kind of attn is bad attn, but it also has the nice side-effect of completely shielding them from having to talk about how utterly motherfucking dirty they are. I was never sure how much I bought into the Denver o-line = dirty knee-takin' out mofos stuff, but jesus christ was nalen ever shameless with that lunge.

also, anyone else hear michaels mentioning that george foster (broncos starting RT, their first round draft pick from a few years ago) was on the bench?? I was really hoping for an explanation of that.

SCOTTIE PIPPEN'S WEDDING (Adrian Langston), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 16:12 (nineteen years ago)

I was never sure how much I bought into the Denver o-line = dirty knee-takin' out mofos stuff, but jesus christ was nalen ever shameless with that lunge.

yeah, that's precisely what "zone blocking" is, taking out the knees of d-linemen who will be so busy protecting their own bodies that they won't be in a position to do anything else. like, i don't know, say, tackle a ball carrier.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 16:18 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I know, but they usually cutblock to protect the backside of the play, and they're usually cutblocking guys who are already in motion - that last part is crucial, because there isn't really a big injury risk when you cut a guy who's actually running at you. but the legs are ridiculously vulnerable when they're not in motion and all the weight is bearing down on the knees. also remember that Olshansky just had knee surgery, what, a month ago? also IT WAS A SPIKE! WTF KIND OF BLOCKING DO YOU NEED TO DO ON A SPIKE???

i'm probably making too big a deal out of it, I mean it's not like cheap shots don't happen in every single NFL game. but the brazenness of it was just astonishing.

SCOTTIE PIPPEN'S WEDDING (Adrian Langston), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 16:43 (nineteen years ago)

How long has that tradition been going on with Denver? I know it's been quite a few years.
