Shouldn't they have been practicing???!

AllyzayEisenschefterBDawkinsFlyingSquirrelRomoCrying.jpg (allyzay), Thursday, 11 January 2007 18:28 (eighteen years ago)

they all look kinda skinny!

lk (lawrence kansas), Thursday, 11 January 2007 18:39 (eighteen years ago)

the game has changed.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Thursday, 11 January 2007 18:47 (eighteen years ago)

Why is it over 6 minutes long?

AllyzayEisenschefterBDawkinsFlyingSquirrelRomoCrying.jpg (allyzay), Thursday, 11 January 2007 18:49 (eighteen years ago)

i remember watching that in elementary school. my teacher was a big bears fan. it was my entry point into rap music!

‘•’u (gear), Thursday, 11 January 2007 18:56 (eighteen years ago)

i will always remember that season for the "squish the fish" rally prior to the pats going to the orange bowl and winning for the first time in like 20 years then the utter failure to come up with something similarly catchy for the super bowl. "berry the bears" was the best the local sports yaks could come up with. i blame that for the pats losing.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 11 January 2007 19:14 (eighteen years ago)

that was the year Byner and Mack each gained 1000 yards rushing for the Browns

we would've beat the Bears easy

lk (lawrence kansas), Thursday, 11 January 2007 19:18 (eighteen years ago)

I blame the Pats sucking hardcore for the Pats losing.

The Android Cat (Dan Perry), Thursday, 11 January 2007 19:18 (eighteen years ago)

I think the slogan/song thing is just as good an indicator.

AllyzayEisenschefterBDawkinsFlyingSquirrelRomoCrying.jpg (allyzay), Thursday, 11 January 2007 19:19 (eighteen years ago)

the saxophone in this is kind of mindblowing.

TOMB07 (TOMBOT), Thursday, 11 January 2007 19:21 (eighteen years ago)

it's like you think the bad rapping is already enough mindblowing badness, then the sax breaks it up and you're like wow who the fuck is that? is that ditka? does ditka think he can play?

TOMB07 (TOMBOT), Thursday, 11 January 2007 19:22 (eighteen years ago)

I LOVED this song when I was 7 years old. I made up a version of it that was about my toys instead of the chicago bears.

TOMB07 (TOMBOT), Thursday, 11 January 2007 19:23 (eighteen years ago)

lol that is so '85 pats

AllyzayEisenschefterBDawkinsFlyingSquirrelRomoCrying.jpg (allyzay), Thursday, 11 January 2007 19:23 (eighteen years ago)

"berry the bears" was the best the local sports yaks could come up with. i blame that for the pats losing.

maybe they shoulda tried "bury the bears."

how anyone can hate on the sbs besides a pats fan is beyond me.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 11 January 2007 19:24 (eighteen years ago)

I made up a version of it that was about my toys instead of the chicago bears.

lyrics, please!

horseshoe (horseshoe), Thursday, 11 January 2007 19:26 (eighteen years ago)

raymond berry was the coach of the '85 pats.

85 pats losing had much to do with Champaign Tony Eason starting the goddamn game (but not finishing it) and the fact that the next day the globe let it be known that almost every player on the team was on coke. the globe also came under fire when it was learned they sat on the story for two days so it wouldn't be a distraction prior to the game. yeah, sure, no distraction there knowing in two days that your mug is going to be plastered on the front page of the paper for having the snowy sniffles.

oh, plus the pats were severely deficient in the talent department as compared to the bears. that somehow figures into it.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 11 January 2007 19:28 (eighteen years ago)

oh man I remember yelling "put Grogan in" throughout the game

lk (lawrence kansas), Thursday, 11 January 2007 19:30 (eighteen years ago)

grogan was the best. dude was a warrior, quarterback who wore a NECK ROLL for christ's sake. i can remember in like '80 or '81 he was out because both knees were shot to shit and matt cavanaugh was starting. against the 49ers cavanaugh got knocked out cold and the only other qb the pats had was grogan. so he literally limped into the game and they had to run every play out of the shotgun because he couldn't drop back. all the handoffs came from the shotgun. grogs had to throw flatfooted because he couldn't step into it. on one snap the center didn't get the ball back far enough and it came skipping up to him, the poor dude's knees wouldn't let him bend down to pick up the ball. i remember my father actually being worried that grogan would get killed during the game.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 11 January 2007 19:42 (eighteen years ago)

Kevin, your enthusiasm for the old Patriots is making me kind of hate them a little less. this cannot stand.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Thursday, 11 January 2007 19:44 (eighteen years ago)

ok whoa that is hardcore. Did you make that up? It sounds like some kind of movie that would star maybe Kevin Costner.

AllyzayEisenschefterBDawkinsFlyingSquirrelRomoCrying.jpg (allyzay), Thursday, 11 January 2007 19:44 (eighteen years ago)

a movie that would make me cry!

horseshoe (horseshoe), Thursday, 11 January 2007 19:46 (eighteen years ago)

'the last snap'

‘•’u (gear), Thursday, 11 January 2007 19:53 (eighteen years ago)

co-starring robert duvall as 'coach aldridge'

‘•’u (gear), Thursday, 11 January 2007 19:53 (eighteen years ago)

no, it's totally true, i'm going to find out when it was. i'm guessing it was the year before the strike. i check his stats and his rushing numbers got cut in half in '80 and he only played 12 games so it might have been that year. he was never the same after that, in the days before arthroscopic surgery major reconstructive knee surgery took a toll. the dude ran for 12 tds in '76! he was the second best qb in the nfl in '79, passed for over 3200 yards (a TON in those days) with 28 tds, ran for 380 yards and another couple tds.

xpost- i immediately thought it was in poor taste to name it "the last snap" because i was thinking knee ligaments instead of the beginning of a football play.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 11 January 2007 19:55 (eighteen years ago)

also starring Todd Blackledge as Matt Cavanaugh

lk (lawrence kansas), Thursday, 11 January 2007 19:56 (eighteen years ago)

intentional double meaning, ck. for the film critics.

‘•’u (gear), Thursday, 11 January 2007 19:56 (eighteen years ago)

For god's sake, why didn't the Pats pick up another QB when he went out for the season?

AllyzayEisenschefterBDawkinsFlyingSquirrelRomoCrying.jpg (allyzay), Thursday, 11 January 2007 19:57 (eighteen years ago)

that was easier than i thought, week 13, pats lost by four at sf.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 11 January 2007 19:57 (eighteen years ago)

he wasn't out for the season at that point. i think he got shelved after that game.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 11 January 2007 19:58 (eighteen years ago)

well still.

AllyzayEisenschefterBDawkinsFlyingSquirrelRomoCrying.jpg (allyzay), Thursday, 11 January 2007 20:00 (eighteen years ago)

whoa, Chuck Foreman was on that team.

lk (lawrence kansas), Thursday, 11 January 2007 20:02 (eighteen years ago)

i clearly remember (@ the age of 9) being fully aware that the pats were not in fact going to bury the bears.

and the local butchers stocking up on bear meat and other such retardations.

jhoshea (scoopsnoodle), Thursday, 11 January 2007 20:06 (eighteen years ago)

wait, people EAT bears??

AllyzayEisenschefterBDawkinsFlyingSquirrelRomoCrying.jpg (allyzay), Thursday, 11 January 2007 20:08 (eighteen years ago)

bear nachos, bear chowder, you know.

jhoshea (scoopsnoodle), Thursday, 11 January 2007 20:09 (eighteen years ago)

bear meat is gristly. i had it up in maine when i was 12 or 13. i'm looking for game recaps but i guess meaningless games from 27 years ago are hard to come by on the internets.

fun fact, the bears were the only team the pats played that year that they didn't beat.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 11 January 2007 20:11 (eighteen years ago)

incidentally grogan still lives in foxboro and is a total local hero.

jhoshea (scoopsnoodle), Thursday, 11 January 2007 20:11 (eighteen years ago)

No ok I am still bothered by the bear thing.

AllyzayEisenschefterBDawkinsFlyingSquirrelRomoCrying.jpg (allyzay), Thursday, 11 January 2007 20:12 (eighteen years ago)

yeah! he owns sporting goods stores on the south shore or something right? and volunteers at like xaverian or something as qb coach?

xpost.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 11 January 2007 20:13 (eighteen years ago)

they lost to the Browns in '85

lk (lawrence kansas), Thursday, 11 January 2007 20:17 (eighteen years ago)

ally - it is my understanding that people don't generally eat bear too much except when their team is playing the bears in the super bowl and they are insane.

jhoshea (scoopsnoodle), Thursday, 11 January 2007 20:18 (eighteen years ago)

dang, lawrence is right. they lost to the bears twice, the browns, the raiders, and the fish. they did not beat the browns or the bears. only the bills saved them from going 0 for rust-belt.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 11 January 2007 20:22 (eighteen years ago)

that divison was always fun to watch- Bert Jones, Richard Todd, joe Ferguson, Grogan. good times

lk (lawrence kansas), Thursday, 11 January 2007 20:24 (eighteen years ago)

i think the pats had the last white tailback to play in the nfl. last white guy to rack up 1,000 yards i'm almost sure.

okay, who greased my weiner? (chicago kevin), Thursday, 11 January 2007 20:37 (eighteen years ago)

i thought that was tiki

‘•’u (gear), Thursday, 11 January 2007 20:38 (eighteen years ago)

i am at least 60% certain tiki is african american.

okay, who greased my weiner? (chicago kevin), Thursday, 11 January 2007 20:39 (eighteen years ago)

only the bills saved them from going 0 for rust-belt.

sounds like my Bills!
