Eagles suspend WR Owens for detrimental conduct

November 5, 2005
PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) - Terrell Owens' apology was not enough.

The Philadelphia Eagles announced on Saturday that Owens has been suspended for conduct detrimental to the team.

Perhaps the NFL's best wide receiver, Owens has been a major headache off the field for the Eagles. On Thursday, he created some more angst with another verbal jab at Eagles' quarterback Donovan McNabb and criticisms of the organization.

In an interview with ESPN.com contributor Graham Bensinger, Owens agreed with ESPN analyst Michael Irvin's assessment that the Eagles (4-3) would be undefeated if Brett Favre was their quarterback.

"That's a good assessment," Owens said when asked by Bensinger if he agreed with Irvin's opinion. "I would agree with that, just with what (Favre) brings to the table."

In the interview, Owens also ripped the organization for not acknowledging his 100th career touchdown pass in the Eagles' home win over San Diego on October 23.

"They claim to be first class and the best organization. It's an embarrassment," Owens said in the ESPN.com interview. "It just shows a lack of class they have."

Owens apologized for those remarks on Friday, reading a brief statement at a news conference.

"I had an opportunity to talk with the organization this (Friday) morning and I've been told that the team does not recognize individual achievements," Owens said. "It was brought to my attention that I offended the organization and my teammates. Therefore, I'd like to apologize for any derogatory comments toward them."

Eagles coach Andy Reid answered questions briefly before Owens made his statement.

"I take care of these things in house," Reid said. "You know that's the way we do things here. I will address it with the player."

When asked if Owens could be suspended for his comments, Reid said "We'll see how things play out."

Apparently, after talking the matter over with the team, Reid decided to suspend Owens.

McNabb did not address the media, but he could not be pleased with the latest verbal attack from Owens.

In an interview last April, Owens said he "wasn't the guy who got tired in the Super Bowl," a reference to several media reports that claimed McNabb was either ill or tired late in the fourth quarter of the Eagles' Super Bowl loss to the New England Patriots last February.

McNabb denied those reports, but several offensive linemen said that McNabb appeared ill and that since-released receiver Freddie Mitchell was forced to call a play in the huddle. Reid also denied that McNabb was ill.

Then after being banished from training camp for a week by Reid for conduct detrimental to the team, Owens called McNabb a "hypocrite."

McNabb said then he could still play with Owens, but was "hurt" by Owens' "hypocrite" remark.

McNabb and veteran safety Brian Dawkins maintained then that Owens' presence and his contract situation would be neither divisive or a distraction for the defending NFC champions.

But this may have been the last straw for the Eagles (4-3), who play Washington (4-3) in a pivotal NFC East game on Sunday night. The Eagles trail the New York Giants (5-2) and the Dallas Cowboys (5-3) in the division.

Owens remains disgruntled over the seven-year contract worth nearly $49 million he signed last year after being acquired from San Francisco. He has a 2005 base salary of $3.25 million, which ranks outside the top 10 among wideouts.

Owens hired agent Drew Rosenhaus in the offseason, a move designed at trying to renegotiate his contract. The Eagles remained steadfast that they would not rework Owens' deal.

Last season, Owens had 77 catches for 1,200 yards and a franchise-record 14 receiving touchdowns before injuring his ankle against Dallas.

After missing the final two regular-season games and the first two games of the playoffs, he made a heroic return and had nine catches for 122 yards in a 24-21 loss to New England in Super Bowl XXXIX.

if the eagles dont recognize individual achievements why the hell did they Owens? I mean, i know the dude gets results, but did they really think they could change him? this isn't "drum line," it's the nfl.

Fetchboy (Felcher), Saturday, 5 November 2005 20:45 (twenty years ago)

True, but TO's pique over his contract is annoying. He got a very nice signing bonus, thank you very much, which is the only compensation in an NFL contract that's guaranteed. Unless you're Ricky Williams.

rogermexico (rogermexico), Saturday, 5 November 2005 21:37 (twenty years ago)

if i recall correctly, the players' union specifically recommended that he not sign that contract. he's an idiot.

I still don't feel sorry for Philly for taking a bet on such a loser.

Blaming McNabb for losing last week when the defense nearly gives up 50 points and 600 yards is insane.

I hadn't heard about Irvin saying the Eagles would be undeafeated with Farve on QB. What a joke, did he see some of the interceptions that Farve threw against the Bengals last week? Irvin should understand T.O. pretty well, as he was about as full of shit when he played for the Cowboys.

The funny thing is that I think ESPN has played T.O. like a piano and got exactly what they wanted out of him for TV over the past few years. Someone in Fox's NFL management is probably scratching their head why they couldn't get Owens to spout off such lunacy in front of their cameras.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Saturday, 5 November 2005 23:43 (twenty years ago)

Stephen A. Smith, who was a defender of T.O. for awhile, jumped ship back in August after this column:

No longer any reason to cut T.O. some slack

By Stephen A. Smith, Inquirer Columnist
August 14, 2005

He had me until the sit-ups.

Before that spectacle at his home on Wednesday afternoon - and it can be described as nothing else - Terrell Owens had a case.

There was a $48,724,000 contract. There were legitimate concerns about whether the Eagles would honor it entirely. There was a system that appears far from player-friendly. And a birth certificate that mandates that he look out for his self-interest.

But after that fiasco at his home in Moorestown, which would give any circus a run for its money, Owens has become a caricature of himself. The situation has surpassed embarrassing. So much so that regardless of his case, its merits or any genuine passion behind it, his actions simply cannot be defended any longer.

A player can't be defended when he tells his offensive coordinator not to speak to him unless he's spoken to. No player can be defended when he continues to take one jab after another at a teammate who has said nothing about him, especially when that teammate happens to be Donovan McNabb, the star.

Such flagrant insubordination, disrespect and defiance can never be tolerated - even if Eagles coach Andy Reid told Owens to shut up, as Owens claimed Reid did.

Reid and the Eagles' organization would be absolute fools to tolerate any more of this nonsense.

And the rest of us would be fools to grant Owens the benefit of the doubt any longer.

Myself included.

While a city strapped itself to the Eagles' cause, spewing venom in Owens' direction because of his contract squabbles and the egregious manner in which he allowed his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, to handle things, I never saw much of a problem.

What I saw was Owens' 1,200 yards and 14 touchdowns; the infusion of some personality that the Eagles desperately needed; and McNabb's 3,875-yard output, along with 31 TD passes, last season.

Owens has a seven-year deal. His talent screams that he's worth every penny of the $48.7 million and then some. And because a collective-bargaining agreement allows the Eagles to go to a player to cut his salary or waive any long-term obligations, I see no problem with a player's attempting to revisit his contractual situation if he performs up to par.

Particularly when the alternative is Greg Lewis and some no-name who may not even end up being better than Todd Pinkston.

But taking into account Owens' petulance and insubordination and then his pleas for sympathy - with Rosenhaus literally holding his hand - the situation is downright sickening, no longer capable of being stomached.

If Owens was so insulted, so frustrated by Reid's telling him to shut up, why didn't he just leave training camp, go away and vent his frustration, after getting the week off?

Why did he go home and entertain a media contingent he had spent a week ignoring?

Why did he shoot basketballs, lift weights, and do sit-ups in his yard to entertain the reporters?

Where was the frustration? The anger? The look that's on the faces of most people who have been "disrespected," as Owens has continuously claimed to have been over the last few weeks?

I didn't see that on Wednesday when he was talking to the media. I saw too much of it on Thursday while he was sitting side-by-side with Rosenhaus, getting interviewed by everyone but Barbara Walters.

Meanwhile, the one person displaying class in this whole ordeal ends up being the one person insulted by Owens the most.

"I still, to this day, see no reason for us to talk," McNabb said, responding to Owens' saying he had no desire to speak to the quarterback. "When we step on this field, it's all about business. We're professionals that line up and do the right thing."

The right thing for Owens still could have had everything to do with pursuing a new contract. He could have stayed unhappy, let it be known, maintained his rift with McNabb and a few others, and simply gone about his business.

Instead, he keeps going too far. He even claims now that he signed a secret waiver to play in the Super Bowl - a claim the Eagles categorically deny. He signs autographs for kids when the cameras are away after refusing for days to sign them when the cameras were rolling.

The situation has surpassed ridiculous purely because Owens appears to have no clue about how ridiculous he looks.

"I'm a good teammate," he said. "Just because I don't speak to a couple of guys doesn't mean anything. I have no desire to speak to [McNabb]."

Well, that's smart - a receiver has no desire to develop chemistry with the guy assigned to throw him the ball.

Brilliant! Now let's see if it gets him a new contract.

Sadly, we know it won't happen. At least not to Owens' liking.

It's time to dismiss this case.

(though he did say in subsequent Inquirer columns--early in the season--that T.O. was worth the money...but I find it hard to believe anyone in Philly or anywhere would defend him now)

Countdown to a Bill Simmons column calling T.O.-Eagles 2005 the most predictable meltdown in sports since the day Ron Artest snapped and that his only regret is that the fight wasn't televised so it could earn "Save Until I Delete" status on his TiVo and take its rightful place next to All-Time Predictable TV Meltdowns such as Superbowl XX and Kelly's recurring cocaine habit during the college years of 90210:

It was nice to hear Mike Patrick be so blunt. Also, Sean Salisbury: "Owens isn't just a cancer, he's a terminal cancer in a locker room." T.O. and Drew Rosenhaus are finding out this weekend how much they DON'T dictate their coverage, and that they've lost the commentators, so I'm looking for crococile tears and lots of 'em from Owens tomorrow or Tuesday. It will be like Jimmy Swaggart bawling "Forgive me, Assembly O' God!"

I do feel guilty for getting any perverse amusement out of it (Rock Hardy), Monday, 7 November 2005 03:16 (twenty years ago)

If I was the Eagles, I'd let T.O. roast for three more weeks, since they can suspend him for four games, then I'd release him. My guess is he will sit for a week or two and then they will have some tear filled press conference and then Owens will play out the season with his mouth shut and be let go in the off season. Maybe the Eagles will swap problems with Miami for Rickey Williams?

Owens and his agent are idiots and I am loving watching play the game and get burned. What is funny is that T.O. is now not making ANY money and he will probably have to take a pay cut to play for another club. There is no team in the NFL that will outlay a big chunk of change for this clown, no matter how good he is on the field.

What team will even take a chance? Owens has already spurned the big loud mouth team with a coach egotistical enough to think he could make it work in Baltimore. The Raiders have Moss and I don't see that happening, even though they are your ususal destiation for league misfits.

The only places I can figure is maybe Atlanta or for some reason Miami. The thing is can you imagine T.O. being happy playing with Gus Ferotte or having to share the stage with Vick?

Don't rule out Shanahan and the Broncs. That guy loves to burden himself with problem players.

Terrell Owens is an idiot, OTM about Keyshawn not even being 1/5 as obnoxious. I mean, I'm sorry, it's one thing to sit around being a prick about the organization, but to sit there and turn against your own teammates? I really would love to meet the people surrounding T.O., his agent and family or whomever, and find out whether or not they are encouraging his delusions that he's more important to the Eagles than McNabb or whether or not T.O. is just the kind of dickwad who there's no talking to.

The Eagles should bench him as long as they can and cut him. Not just for the sanity of their own organization (can you imagine them giving in to his stupid demands at this point? What a personnel nightmare...we just gave a ton of money to a shitbag all of you hate, ha ha rest of team pwned), but for his own safety. I mean it's not exactly hard for the guys meant to block for him or help him out at all to start, oh, let's just say not always playing their 100% on the field due to lack of respect (that's pretty close approximation of the words that have come out of T.O.'s mouth on national television, right?).

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Monday, 7 November 2005 15:01 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I can't see Los Eggles getting much in value for TO (given the great PR work he's done the past 2+ years) (way to have his back, Drew), so they should cut bait ASAP for whatever they can get and move on. At least when Keyshawn was being a dick, he wrote a book about it and let that do most of the heavy lifting.

Too bad Rushbo isn't on NFL Countdown - given TO's Favre comments, he could totally go on a "See? I was right!" jag for at least 2 minutes before TJ & Irvin string his strung-out ass up across one of the studio big screens.

Also: TO using "predicate" = he might've bought Tony Yayo's album = COME ON!!

Bonus: Westbrook gets more touches like he wanted!

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 7 November 2005 15:36 (twenty years ago)

T.O. = the NFL's version of alberto belle. and i dunno which is worse. perhaps the most key similarity is that -- just like Belle -- T.O. will end up being shunned by just about everyone, his tremendous talent notwithstanding.

i admit it, i was happy when T.O. signed with the eagles simply b/c of his talent. but this has gone too far. even if the eagles take a hit this season (and they will -- it's too late to regear their offense, and donovan's not been in good health), they should just get rid of him.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 7 November 2005 18:44 (twenty years ago)

Belle & Owens aren't even close! Everything Albert did was to people aside from his teammates - either fans, reporters, or himself. TO, on the other hand, is executing a perfectly pitched scorched earth campaign against his own damn team. Perfect, that is, if your goal is to piss off a lot of people.

Eagles say Owens won't return this season

By ROB MAADDI, AP Sports Writer
November 7, 2005
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Terrell Owens won't return to the Philadelphia Eagles this season, coach Andy Reid said Monday.

The outspoken star receiver was suspended for Sunday night's 17-10 loss at Washington, and will remain suspended for three more games. After that, the Eagles plan to deactivate Owens for the rest of the season.

``The league has been notified by the players' union that they will be grieving our right to take that action,'' Reid said, ``therefore there is nothing more that I can say at this point.''

Owens was suspended over the weekend following a tumultuous week in which he criticized the club, fought with a former teammate and took another verbal shot at quarterback Donovan McNabb.

``I do want it to be clear that this decision is a result of a large number of situations that accumulated over a long period of time,'' Reid said.

Owens ``had been warned repeatedly about the consequences of his actions,'' Reid said. ``We gave Terrell every opportunity to avoid this outcome.''

Owens was suspended Saturday, two days after he said the Eagles showed ``a lack of class'' for not publicly recognizing his 100th career touchdown catch in a game on Oct. 23. In the same interview with ESPN.com on Thursday, Owens said the Eagles would be better off with Green Bay's Brett Favre at quarterback.

Owens was involved in a fight last week with former Eagles defensive end Hugh Douglas, who remains with the team as its ``ambassador.''

McNabb, who feuded with Owens throughout the summer and has been a constant target of his criticism, finally took a stand in the matter, saying the Eagles might be ``better off'' without Owens.

``Obviously it is tough losing a guy of his caliber, his ability, but I think we might be better off,'' McNabb said after throwing an interception that sealed the loss to Washington. ``I think what we did tonight, we showed that we played well together. I think we also showed that when given the opportunity, guys can make plays for us. We're 4-4. We're not 1-7. I think that's the way to look at it. For the guys in the locker room, we win together and we lose together.''

gear (gear), Monday, 7 November 2005 20:38 (twenty years ago)

TO's tradeworth was never high, simply because if the team he's on wants to deal him, they're DESPERATE to deal him. The 9ers only got a 3rd rounder and some schmuck who's already forgotten/no longer with the team.

Wolfcastleee (Leee), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 01:43 (twenty years ago)

Former 49ers teammates were shocked that Terrell Owens brawled with a former defensive lineman, who outweighed him by 55 pounds, and threatened to take on the whole team.

Why'd T.O. go after such a little guy?

Gary Plummer, the 49ers' former linebacker and current radio man, alluded on the air to a near-brawl he broke up in the locker room in 1997. We caught up to him after the game, and he elaborated.

The combatants: Terrell Owens, a second-year receiver listed at 6-foot-2 and 213 pounds, and Kevin Gogan, the truly offensive lineman who was listed at 6-7 and 325 (but Plummer put him at 355) and was named Sports Illustrated's dirtiest player a year later.

``When you're giving up 125 pounds to somebody, it's not real smart,'' Plummer said Sunday. ``Kevin kept trying to play it off. T.O. really pushed it. He kept getting in Kevin's face. Gogan said, `Let's do this.' ''

So if you're in the ever-expanding camp that believes all T.O. needed was someone to knock some sense into him way back when, blame Gary Plummer that it didn't happen. He said he couldn't remember what caused the dispute, only that it started on the practice field and boiled over in the locker room. He doesn't recall punches being thrown. And, he adds, it could have been much uglier: ``Fortunately, it was clothed.''

But make no mistake about one thing.

``T.O. instigated the fight,'' Plummer said, ``and he instigated the fight against Hugh Douglas. That's what people need to know. He is not the victim.''

Owens apologizes to Eagles, McNabb and fans

By ROB MAADDI, AP Sports Writer
November 8, 2000

MOORESTOWN, N.J. (AP) -- A contrite Terrell Owens, hoping to overturn his dismissal from the Philadelphia Eagles, on Tuesday apologized to coach Andy Reid, quarterback Donovan McNabb, the team's owner and president, and fans.

"I fight for what I think is right. In doing so, I alienated a lot of my fans and my teammates," Owens said, reading a statement outside his house.

His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said Owens was making a public apology in hopes of returning to the Eagles immediately.

Owens on Monday was told by the team not to return this season. The decision resulted from "a large number of situations that accumulated over a long period of time, during which Terrell had been warned repeatedly about the consequences of his actions," Reid said.

The All-Pro wide receiver didn't play in Sunday night's 17-10 loss at Washington, and will remain suspended for three more games without pay. After that, the Eagles plan to deactivate him for the rest of the season.

He was suspended Saturday, two days after he said the Eagles showed "a lack of class" for not publicly recognizing his 100th career touchdown catch in a game on Oct. 23. In the same interview with ESPN.com on Thursday, Owens said the Eagles would be better off with Green Bay's Brett Favre at quarterback instead of McNabb.

Owens apologized specifically to Reid, McNabb, Eagles president Joe Banner, owner Jeffrey Lurie and to fans.

To McNabb, Owens said, "I apologize to him for any comments that may have been negative."

McNabb, who feuded with Owens throughout the summer, was a constant target of his criticism. He finally took a stand in the matter Sunday, saying the team might be "better off" without Owens.

Asked to elaborate on how the team could be better off without its top receiver, McNabb emphasized the remaining players are united with the same goal of winning.

Rookie Reggie Brown filled in for Owens against Washington and caught five passes for 94 yards, including a 56-yard TD reception. But the Eagles' offense continued to struggle and couldn't score the tying touchdown with three shots from the Redskins 7 in the final minutes.

The Eagles are 4-4 this season, a steep drop from last season's Super Bowl run.

Owens' relationship with the Eagles took a drastic turn after he fired longtime agent David Joseph, hired Rosenhaus and demanded a new contract just one season into the seven-year, $48.97 million deal he signed when he came to Philadelphia in March 2004.

Owens clashed with management this summer and earned a one-week exile from training camp after a heated dispute with Reid that followed a shouting match with offensive coordinator Brad Childress.

Owens forced a trade to the Eagles last year after eight seasons with the 49ers and invigorated the offense with his superior skills. He had 77 catches for 1,200 yards and 14 TDs in 14 games.

Soon after Philadelphia lost to the Patriots in the Super Bowl, Owens took his first shot at McNabb, suggesting the five-time Pro Bowl quarterback was tired in the fourth quarter of the loss.

McNabb responded harshly and the two didn't speak for a prolonged period in training camp. They eventually reconciled their relationship and performed well together on the field -- Owens has 47 catches for 763 yards and six TDs this season.

However, Owens continued to throw verbal jabs at McNabb.

I'm sure by now everyone's seen the press conference. What a weird-ass dog & pony show this is turning out to be... holy crap. Drew Rosenhaus is nuttier than a fruitcake, and if that's what he's been feeding Owens through their relationship then even Harryhausen should bow to this guy,
talk about creating a monster.

Best part of press conference was the peanut gallery question to Rosenhaus: "What have you done for Owens beside getting him kicked off the Eagles?" Even T.O. laughed.

I don't feel like starting an Eagles or Seahawks thread, so I'll just use this one for a quick "holy shit OMG".

I do feel guilty for getting any perverse amusement out of it (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 04:06 (nineteen years ago)

while i'm happy the seahawks are destroying the eagles, i'm bummed that they pulled ahead so quickly, ensuring no passes (esp. td ones) will go to my man Jurevicius. and i was so close to beating bobby n., dammit.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 04:24 (nineteen years ago)

is that the same 'bobby n' that likes to play the ponies?

Man, this is flat-out embarassing... even worse than the MNF where my Leos got blown out by the "good-version" Rams 35-0, 4 years ago (a game I attended, unfortunately.)

I was really rooting for McMahon to do well too.

but the game was fun because it allowed Madden to take-up space with the usual non-sequitor blathering. I particularly enjoyed the moon waxing/waning discussion.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 05:00 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, same bobby n. his team is fucking awesome, and mine's pretty terrible, but we were on a win streak. d'oh.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 15:52 (nineteen years ago)

I particularly enjoyed the moon waxing/waning discussion.

I'd already checked out but this sounds classic. Did he use the telestrator?

rogermexico (rogermexico), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 22:11 (nineteen years ago)

The last quarter was classic. Anytime Frank Broyles is getting namechecked on MNF, you know it's been an interesting night.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 22:18 (nineteen years ago)

The waxing/waning comments were also after a discussion comparing former Eagle-Dolphin Keith Jackson to ABC's Keith Jackson. Al Michaels talked about a scene when Keith Jackson scoring a TD for Oklahoma in a bowl game and Keith Jackson the commentator saying something like "Touchdown Keith Jackson, no relation". (It was even better with Al Michaels getting in to his rumbling, stumbling this bowl be rockin' Keith Jackson voice.)

Classic. They need to just let these guys have a football talk show and forget the game.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 13:24 (nineteen years ago)

Cris Carter was another 4.70 guy.

By the time Irving Fryar joined the Eagles, he had lost several steps.

Fred Barnett? Close, but not quite.

And Keith Jackson was a tight end.

Anthony Brancato, Sunday, 11 December 2005 11:42 (nineteen years ago)

Keith Jackson counts. Just like Antonio Gates and Tony Gonzalez count for their teams. Your team doesn't need a big play wideout when you have the most dominant tight end in the league. In fact, you might merely need servicable sorts like Fryar and Barnett. Big play receivers have nothing to do with speed, either, unless you think a speedster like Willie Gault was better than Cris Carter.

gear (gear), Sunday, 11 December 2005 19:12 (nineteen years ago)

It's frightening how close that Giants game was.
I blame the fact that nobody has hardly any videotape on the Eagles' current offensive staff.

Allyzay Rofflesberger (allyzay), Thursday, 2 February 2006 19:09 (nineteen years ago)

I just read the ESPN version of that article. Transcription does not really do poor Donovan any favors.

Dan (Terrell Is Still The King Asshat) Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 2 February 2006 19:18 (nineteen years ago)

Also Donovan is completely OTM with the sentiment of the "black-on-black crime" comment although the amount of hyperbole inherent in using that phrase in this context is Aegean-Stablesworthy.

Dan ("We Need An Old White Man So That I Can Succeed") Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 2 February 2006 19:22 (nineteen years ago)

I'm still not really sure what the hell was meant by the Brett Favre comment. I mean dude is in the twilight of his career.

Allyzay Rofflesberger (allyzay), Thursday, 2 February 2006 20:02 (nineteen years ago)

i feel reeeeeeeeally bad for Donovan, but he's kind of a pussmo. i think this is one of those situations where he could've benefitted from being less gracious or something... he just looks weak now. i feel bad for how his teammates kinda let him hang in the wind, but he seems sorta more passive about things than he should be?

Milhouse is not a meme. But 'Milhouse is not a meme' IS a meme. (Adrian Langston, Thursday, 2 February 2006 22:05 (nineteen years ago)

Well, yes and no. I mean, basically he tried to handle the situation like he was A) an adult; and B) a professional. The problem was that everyone else involved has the emotional maturity of firecat.jpg.

Dan (In This Case It Is Proper To Hate The Players) Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 2 February 2006 22:16 (nineteen years ago)

http://bestmessageboardever.com/uploads/post-1486-1138846667.gif

yeah i pretty much agree, but it actually makes me angry that such an amazing player and reasonable, generous guy has been consistently shit on by dudes who were supposed to have his back. and it kinda pisses me off to think that he maybe could've nipped the whole thing in the bud by just NOT being such a nice dude. i feel for him big time, but i can also see why it'd be hard for his teammates to respect him right now. it's like (get ready for a shitty movie analogy) in MASTER & COMMANDER, how the crew was planning to kill that one first mate who was too soft and indecisive. and then he tried to be friends w/them and it just made things worse. your heart goes out to a guy in a difficult situation, but you also understand that some things just need to be handled in a certain way.

or maybe i'm just talking out my ass lol!

I think we're on the same page here.

Dan (Eagles = Fucksticks) Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 2 February 2006 23:21 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah I basically agree. But I also think he was in a no win situation--what was he gonna do, bitch out on people? Cos quite a few of those players would've taken that as a reason to bag on him too.

i made that trade in the other fantasy league, giving up owens for laurence maroney. i shouldn't have pussied out when it was first offered, i would have had two more TDs this week >:(

gear (gear), Monday, 2 October 2006 18:34 (nineteen years ago)

maroney had a breakout day yesterday tho!

That's what Gear just said!

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 2 October 2006 18:39 (nineteen years ago)

yes i traded for him, and if i'd done it sooner i'd have been in good shape! but i didn't pull the trigger because i thought TO had 'something to prove', and he did, he proved he can catch balls for 80+ yds and not score

gear (gear), Monday, 2 October 2006 18:39 (nineteen years ago)

Still, going from pill-popping to catching 5 balls for 80+ is a pretty good turnaround.
