Demond Sanders is going to snatch all balls thrown by rex grossman

LOLZ did anyone else catch the interview with Lovie Smith where sideline chicky asked him to "describe in n-words how it feels to be the first African-American coach in the Super Bowl"? She couldn't phrase that better?

i think the bears have a better shot against the colts than they would against the pats, if only because maybe lovie can sneak into the rec room at tony's pad and photoscan his playbook.

I'm reading that as saying "BEER!"

AllyzayEisenschefterBDawkinsFlyingSquirrelRomoCrying.jpg (allyzay), Monday, 22 January 2007 05:42 (eighteen years ago)

Most importantly, teh Pats LOST!!!

greenie (Sans Sushi), Monday, 22 January 2007 10:02 (eighteen years ago)

I think gear is OTM upthread. I would have predicted a relatively easy Patriots win over the Bears, unfortunately, but now, as something of a Bears fan, I'm pretty psyched because I think they can actually beat the Colts. Maybe Peyton's finger will start acting up again!

But yeah, a definite AFC upset as far as I'm concerned.

And I thought Lovie deflected that preposterous question with grace and dignity.

Spine Swine (Roger Fidelity), Monday, 22 January 2007 12:53 (eighteen years ago)

describe in n-words how it feels to be the first African-American coach in the Super Bowl"? She couldn't phrase that better?

how did he answer that? "NIGGAS BE GOIN' TO THE SUPERBOWL!!!!"?

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Monday, 22 January 2007 14:20 (eighteen years ago)

the Pats' running game looked like it might be the one to finally break the postseason Colts D, but then they held them to 93 yards after all. This still isn't making a lot of sense to me! If the Bears' backs are magically unable to get any more yards on the ground after the Prince Extravaganza I will strongly suspect that Dungy has rediscovered the Gaulish magic potion.

TOMBO7 (TOMBOT), Monday, 22 January 2007 15:17 (eighteen years ago)

wtf does that mean?

AllyzayEisenschefterBDawkinsFlyingSquirrelRomoCrying.jpg (allyzay), Monday, 22 January 2007 15:25 (eighteen years ago)

wtf

TOMBO7 (TOMBOT), Monday, 22 January 2007 15:27 (eighteen years ago)

anyway that was supposed to be Asterix = Dallas Clark, Obelix = Jeff Saturday, Getafix = Tony Dungy, and Vitalstatistix = Peyton Manning, but it failed, miserably, I think I give up on this today

TOMBO7 (TOMBOT), Monday, 22 January 2007 15:28 (eighteen years ago)

ah the super bowl, how lovely: i will recline upon the couch of my gracious host, i will chew on some snacks, i'll get a little drunk, i'll make some jokes, i'll get psyched for prince, i'll place some small bets, and i won't really care.

jhoshea (scoopsnoodle), Monday, 22 January 2007 15:28 (eighteen years ago)

The explanation doesn't help me understand your metaphor in the least.

AllyzayEisenschefterBDawkinsFlyingSquirrelRomoCrying.jpg (allyzay), Monday, 22 January 2007 15:37 (eighteen years ago)

i would be totally down with cancelling the game and giving to either the bears or the colts and have prince play for four hours instead.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Monday, 22 January 2007 15:57 (eighteen years ago)

1. lovie smith and tony dungy emerge from a giant inflatable half bears / half colts helmet holding hands and declare the super bowl to be a tie.

2. the players wander onto the field and all sit down together on a huge heart shaped picnic blanket.

3. prince plays for 4 hours.

jhoshea (scoopsnoodle), Monday, 22 January 2007 16:21 (eighteen years ago)

I think you guys are overrating how much you like Prince.

AllyzayEisenschefterBDawkinsFlyingSquirrelRomoCrying.jpg (allyzay), Monday, 22 January 2007 16:25 (eighteen years ago)

4. ricky manning jr. beats up matt fink and steals his laptop

Haikunym (Haikunym), Monday, 22 January 2007 16:25 (eighteen years ago)

hi people I'm still really happy about this.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Monday, 22 January 2007 16:30 (eighteen years ago)

no, i genuinely like prince more than i like the bears and colts combined. and i would rather watch the patron saint of strip clubs play for four hours than i would that game.

if nothing else i can root for the bears which won't be as much fun as rooting for the pats but the bears are the team i'm most familiar with after the pmen anyway.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Monday, 22 January 2007 16:33 (eighteen years ago)

Prince has kind of sucked for quite a few years now, is the point I'm making.

AllyzayEisenschefterBDawkinsFlyingSquirrelRomoCrying.jpg (allyzay), Monday, 22 January 2007 16:37 (eighteen years ago)

so have the bears and colts yet all 3 will be playing on super bowl sunday.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Monday, 22 January 2007 16:39 (eighteen years ago)

Someone is a sore loser, oh surprise it's a patriots fan. :P

AllyzayEisenschefterBDawkinsFlyingSquirrelRomoCrying.jpg (allyzay), Monday, 22 January 2007 16:41 (eighteen years ago)

Prince has kind of sucked for quite a few years now, is the point I'm making.

yeah but there could be lots of surprise cameo guest stars and stunts and stuff - i remember one super bowl in the 80s a dude flew around in a jet pack @ half time during a tableau describing the greatness of america - stuff like that.

jhoshea (scoopsnoodle), Monday, 22 January 2007 16:45 (eighteen years ago)

Whoa I don't remember that at all. Combine that + Janet Jackson's booby somehow and we've got a four hour show. Prince, not so much :\

AllyzayEisenschefterBDawkinsFlyingSquirrelRomoCrying.jpg (allyzay), Monday, 22 January 2007 16:51 (eighteen years ago)

prince and justin timberlake could fite since they've got beef now

jhoshea (scoopsnoodle), Monday, 22 January 2007 16:58 (eighteen years ago)

i'd take prince and a telecaster and a stack of marshall's halfway to heaven for four hours. hell, have him play in the parking lot during the game and broadcast it on the SAP feed, i'll listen to that over joe buck or whomever.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Monday, 22 January 2007 16:58 (eighteen years ago)

OK Prince v Joe Buck is fair enough.

AllyzayEisenschefterBDawkinsFlyingSquirrelRomoCrying.jpg (allyzay), Monday, 22 January 2007 16:59 (eighteen years ago)

Prince is fine and all, but I'm keeping with tradition and will be out in the garage fixing something that doesn't need to be fixed, or reading the new Onion book while taking a shit, or making a sandwich, or basically doing anything to avoid sitting through halftime, which is always the most depressing TV this side of a Carson Daly Times Sqaure New Years Eve for some reason

Roger Fidelity (Roger Fidelity), Monday, 22 January 2007 17:05 (eighteen years ago)

i'll be watching puppy bowl.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 22 January 2007 17:08 (eighteen years ago)

god, i just realized i DO NOT WANT to be in this town if the bears win. i can't bring myself to root for the colts. i'm pretty much f'ed either way.

say it with blood diamonds (a_p), Monday, 5 February 2007 16:26 (eighteen years ago)

prince's halftime show >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> the actual super bowl

i think that might be the first time in the history of the game that this has been true.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 5 February 2007 16:27 (eighteen years ago)

i didnt think it was so great - but then neither was the game.

jhoshea (scoopsnoodle), Monday, 5 February 2007 16:33 (eighteen years ago)

i thought it was a fun game to watch. at least exciting for most of it, if very sloppy cuz of the rain etc.

weird things:

1) against all conventional "wisdom" the rain actually hurts the smashmouth bears more than the "flashy" colts

2) i still don't understand why the bears pretty much abandoned the run? strange, and it's not like it didn't work when they did run, odd choice, it's like they forced the game to be about peyton vs. grossman

3) peyton played great, but maybe rhodes shoulda been the mvp?

M@tt He1g3s0n: oh u mad cuz im stylin on u (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 5 February 2007 17:04 (eighteen years ago)

i don't understand why it took the bears 54 minutes to figure out how to defend the pass to back in the flat.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Monday, 5 February 2007 17:15 (eighteen years ago)

bears' running attack didn't really work that well though! their line had no explosiveness, colts pretty much shut 'em down. but i thought they passed too much too, and poorly.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Monday, 5 February 2007 17:26 (eighteen years ago)

3) peyton played great, but maybe rhodes shoulda been the mvp?

YES

Tuesdays With Morimoto (Rock Hardy), Monday, 5 February 2007 17:26 (eighteen years ago)

If you think Prince's halftime show was better than the game you are either
A) very, very sad
B) a person who missed the first half

Also I've been saying Peyton is cuety all season long, kevin!

Allyzay doesnt get into the monkeys or vindications (allyzay), Monday, 5 February 2007 17:48 (eighteen years ago)

those two teams were pretty evenly matched except for the fact that peyton manning is awesome and rex grossman is the worst quarterback in the history of the nfl. i wonder what free agent qb the bears will go after?

i am neither!

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 5 February 2007 18:01 (eighteen years ago)

I'm sorry, but a third option wasn't given!

(I appreciated his halftime show for the fact that it was very lo-key and there were no surprise guests or nonsense, but it was hardly the best performance I've seen Prince give, he had a stupid thing on his head, and also playing Purple Rain in the rain is retarded. However, it was definitely the best halftime show in Super Bowl history.)

Allyzay doesnt get into the monkeys or vindications (allyzay), Monday, 5 February 2007 18:11 (eighteen years ago)

jhoshea (scoopsnoodle), Monday, 5 February 2007 18:15 (eighteen years ago)

i actually don't think bledsoe would be that bad in chicago. the line gives decent enough protection and they're a run first team who could win with both REX GROSSMAN AND KYLE ORTON AS THEIR STARTERS. so obviously qb isn't THE most important position on the field for them.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Monday, 5 February 2007 18:27 (eighteen years ago)

it wasn't low-key! it was the best sb halftime show ever!

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 5 February 2007 18:34 (eighteen years ago)

ok everyone who's saying prince was the best eva is forgetting michael jackson w/the stadium turning into children of the world holding hands. and i just dont see how you can crown something that has a foo fighters cover that makes you think hmm he's not really matching the energy of the original. the it's about the music maaan lack of spectacle/guests attitude was kinda annoying too. everyone's giving him a pass cause he's, you know, prince,

however... purple rain in the rain was glorious.

Me too! Imagine what that closing singalong must've sounded like down there where Prince was! I am convinced he only ever plays guitar anymore to hide the boners he gets when 50 bajillion people sing along with his songs.

blotter Budweiser Hackeysadk (nickalicious), Monday, 5 February 2007 19:24 (eighteen years ago)

ONE GOOD HALF DOES NOT MAKE A GAEM

it was more like one good quarter anyway.

aidsy (PUNXSUTAWNEY PENIS), Monday, 5 February 2007 19:41 (eighteen years ago)

Did the 3rd quarter of this game seem to go on FOOORREEEEVVE#EEER to anyone else? It was longer than the whole rest of the game. It seemed like every single play was CHALLENGED.

blotter Budweiser Hackeysadk (nickalicious), Monday, 5 February 2007 19:46 (eighteen years ago)

I think if the coaches really get to challenge they should have to do a little tap-dance and then at the end say "CHALLENGE!" to the ref.

I'm not sure Peyton can win the big one.

lk (lawrence kansas), Tuesday, 6 February 2007 14:20 (eighteen years ago)

cosign with whoever said it should rain on every superbowl, that was totally sweet

TOMBO7 (TOMBOT), Tuesday, 6 February 2007 15:32 (eighteen years ago)

also this game was totally nfl history dork smorgasbord

TOMBO7 (TOMBOT), Tuesday, 6 February 2007 15:33 (eighteen years ago)

ade I'm sorry that you and joel don't actually like sports and complain constantly about how "boring" every game is and only seem interested in fantasy sports but please don't ruin them for the rest of us ;_;

Seriously, the game was, at the very least, pretty hilarious--rain on super bowl is sweet! It was also decently tight before Grossman just completely lost his shit, at which point everything he did was hilarious so win-win!

Allyzay doesnt get into the monkeys or vindications (allyzay), Tuesday, 6 February 2007 15:58 (eighteen years ago)

M@tt He1g3s0n: oh u mad cuz im stylin on u (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 6 February 2007 16:04 (eighteen years ago)

I lost 4 dollars on the game so the Bears losing wasn't a big deal and the rain was great but there was no mud :-/ that must have been some tough turf.

Grossman winging hail marys down the field was emabarrassing but the KEY TO GAME was the Colts 34 minute drive to start the 3rd quarter. I swear the Colts pull a drive like that every game.

Allyzay, how'd the squares go?

lk (lawrence kansas), Tuesday, 6 February 2007 16:06 (eighteen years ago)

I liked how everytime an RB would go down, it'd look like the little girl in Poltergeist being pulled across the kitchen floor.

And here's some more rain on Pettyon's parade, [/gabbneb]
