chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Monday, 22 January 2007 22:12 (eighteen years ago)

Ha - that SB happened during my "2 cool 4 sports" phase. I spent our SB party chatting w/ then-gf & friends, none of whom I speak to anymore. Should've watched the game.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 22 January 2007 22:14 (eighteen years ago)

Super Bowls XXV-XXVIII

For the first time, I'm glad that douchenozzle Time Warner won't cough up NFLN.

hearditonthexico (rogermexico), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 08:15 (eighteen years ago)

After watching XIII and XXII I'm convinced that this country really has gone down the tubes and it mostly has to do with two things:

1. Computers
2. Cable

TOMBO7 (TOMBOT), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 14:47 (eighteen years ago)

Madden games should have an option where you can choose to simulate your games in grainy-ass Chuck Noll™ Color Broadcasting Super-View.

TOMBO7 (TOMBOT), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 14:52 (eighteen years ago)

i was blown the fuck away by the XIII broadcast. seeing it in video was like a weird revelation.

aidsy (PUNXSUTAWNEY PENIS), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 16:00 (eighteen years ago)

The interstitial music on all these old super bowls is hilarious.

Allyzay doesnt get into the monkeys or vindications (allyzay), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 16:05 (eighteen years ago)

I loved the team pictures!

horseshoe (horseshoe), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 16:50 (eighteen years ago)

January 25 at 8:00 PM ET
Super Bowl XXXIV
St. Louis Rams vs. Tennessee Titans
Announcers: Al Michaels and Boomer Esiason (ABC)

This is one of the most boring "classic" games in all of sports. The first half was soul-suckingly dull (3-0 Rams) and the Titans were completely asleep until late in the 3rd quarter. For 45 minutes, this game was uglier than Kurt Warner's wife (who, via crowdshots, was given more airtime during the TV broadcast than most of the players). The 4th quarter was fantastic but overall this game was hard on the eyes. Most of the other games on the list were interesting from start to finish.

"February 3 at 4:00 PM ET

I keep waiting for Dan Marino to totally pwnn Boomer Esiason for every time he seems to get a dig at him via Peyton Manning on not winning the big one and bring up how shitty Boomer played in this game. Freakin' Esiason completes a couple of passes and they win this game.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 01:33 (eighteen years ago)

I don't understand who Boomer thinks he is to keep ragging on Marino anyway.

Allyzay doesnt get into the monkeys or vindications (allyzay), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 18:10 (eighteen years ago)

i'm guessing marino tagged boomer's woman 15 or 20 years ago or something because easiason just REFUSES to let it go.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 18:15 (eighteen years ago)

Boomer was wearing a Patriots hoodie with the sleeves cut off last weekend. Nothing further needs to be said.

lk (lawrence kansas), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 18:34 (eighteen years ago)

I really fucking hate Boomer Esiason and I always have. I thought I couldn't hate him anymore until I saw him in the Belichick hoodie. Marino always looks so forlorn when Esiason pulls that shit, too. it's sad.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 20:02 (eighteen years ago)

I don't care. I love Marino's look at the end of that clip.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 20:29 (eighteen years ago)

I'm hoping Brady invites him over for dinner. The crawl space can handle one more.

lk (lawrence kansas), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 20:30 (eighteen years ago)

haha i was hoping someone would post that. boomer is a pimp imo

aidsy (PUNXSUTAWNEY PENIS), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 20:38 (eighteen years ago)

god he's such an asshole! I hope Marino punches him in the head one of these days. I don't even particularly like Marino, but god.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 20:40 (eighteen years ago)

ade you like all of the worst people, wtf is that about.

That was a lot easier to watch knowing the ending ahead of time. Although the advances in broadcast computer stats display technology from 1988 to 1991 were apparently RIDICULOUS, more ridiculous than even Devin Hester, in fact.

It makes me very sad, the fact that Dan Dierdorf and Frank Gifford are no longer announcing games.

At one point it sounded like one of them said "Bruce Smith is fucking Jim Finn" but that was not what they were actually saying.

TOMBO7 (TOMBOT), Friday, 26 January 2007 04:53 (eighteen years ago)

Also: LOL @ young, healthy, glowing, handsome Belichick and Parcells, before their own bitter, dark souls started eating their earthly flesh, transforming them into Vader and the Emperor. It's easy to forget, what they once looked like.

Allyzay doesnt get into the monkeys or vindications (allyzay), Friday, 26 January 2007 04:55 (eighteen years ago)

okay, I'm watching this right now, feeling masochistic. I can't quite convey how deeply defensive is the default stance of a Buffalo Bills fan. I basically picked up the game at the beginning of the second half, so had to be subjected to the Giants' ridiculous time-eating drive that ended in an Anderson TD, on which the Bills D couldn't seem to do a fucking thing. and everything Dierdorf and Gifford say stings! even when they're complimenting the Bills! like, Cornelius Bennet (aw, Cornelius Bennet!) makes a play and they're talking about how great he is and they're all, "that is not the product of great coaching" and I'm all, what are you trying to say about Marv?

and then they're all anointing the Giants for it being a "championship drive" and I'm like they're still DOWN BY TWO, assholes, even though, of course, they're right. I'm going to give myself a heart attack.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Friday, 26 January 2007 07:52 (eighteen years ago)

at least Thurman Thomas is still awesome even though it all end in tears.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Friday, 26 January 2007 08:12 (eighteen years ago)

Cornelius Bennet (aw, Cornelius Bennet!)

this dude was money and single handedly tore the patriots apart for years.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Friday, 26 January 2007 14:21 (eighteen years ago)

bennet and shane conlon. and bruce smith. bryce paup. i hated those bills teams.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Friday, 26 January 2007 14:42 (eighteen years ago)

Haha I think blaming Cornelius Bennet for the Patriots of the late 80s and early 90s is...ambitious.

There was one great line during the Super Bowl, Gifford suddenly announced "If you don't like Thurman Thomas, then you hate EVERYTHING about football and don't understand football at all." I was like, whoa.

Allyzay doesnt get into the monkeys or vindications (allyzay), Friday, 26 January 2007 15:28 (eighteen years ago)

no, no, not blaming, shuddering at the memory of. he was a guy who, in particular, used to shred the pats. like more than most. it's like in baseball where a particular player seems to perform much better against one franchise than another. just as, until recently, p. manning didn't have great games against the pats, corney bennet would play like some comination of dick butkus, bronko nagurski, and captain america against the pats.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Friday, 26 January 2007 15:33 (eighteen years ago)

But, in fairness, so did pretty much everyone on the Bills, the Pats didn't put up much of a defense, in fact I'd say it looked almost consentual.

Allyzay doesnt get into the monkeys or vindications (allyzay), Friday, 26 January 2007 15:43 (eighteen years ago)

actually, the pats could handle bruce smith smith and bryce paup ok (the pats had arguably their best left tackle ever, bruce armstrong, during most of smith's time in buffalo) but god damn, they had no answer for bennet and conlon.

on the offensive side of the ball the bills may just have well been playing against retarded 9 year olds for all the resistance the pats gave them.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Friday, 26 January 2007 15:47 (eighteen years ago)

seriously though AFC, what were you thinking in the 80s? Fuck, in the 90s? What up, AFC? What's the deal?

TOMBO7 (TOMBOT), Friday, 26 January 2007 15:51 (eighteen years ago)

Oh right, Chuck Noll retired.

TOMBO7 (TOMBOT), Friday, 26 January 2007 15:51 (eighteen years ago)

There was one great line during the Super Bowl, Gifford suddenly announced "If you don't like Thurman Thomas, then you hate EVERYTHING about football and don't understand football at all." I was like, whoa.

aw, I missed that. I forgive you, Frank Gifford.

Cornelius Bennet was one of the Bills' roster of hotties, also. even though they didn't play their best in Super Bowl XXV, it was nice to see all those guys playing again. sniff.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Friday, 26 January 2007 18:47 (eighteen years ago)

BOT TOM, I can't believe you repped Dierdorf. T_T
