WHO DAT SAY THEY GONNA BEAT THEM SAINTS?

Honestly, do the Saints stand a chance of ever even getting to the NFC Championship game?

Do they even stand a chance of staying in New Orleans?

If they move, will they keep being the "Saints" or will they change their name to the "beavers" or the "coattails"?

Will Benson FINALLY fire Haslett and Brooks at the end of this season?

If they play in the Superdome next season, will the bad karma of the stadium make for a bad Stephen King TV movie?

gimme some opinions.

The Saints logo and name will stay in N.O., but I think Benson and his team is gone for either San Antonio or L.A. in the long run.

The NFL hasn't had a team in L.A. for ten years, but I tell you if I am a NFL owner, I don't want Benson to be the one with that market. Benson is a bonehead owner nearly on the incompetence level of Bidwell in AZ.

I would be really bummed if the Saints org ended up in LA.

My first reaction was disbelief. But then I thought some more. For years, I have been against New York and New Jersey providing public money to build stadiums, citing studies (studies that I can be no more specific about than I just have been, but they’re out there, you know they’re out there) that prove that a sports franchise does little or nothing to improve the economic quality of life of those in its vicinity. And although it’s never appeared that any sports franchise was willing to take those studies seriously, perhaps at long last we’ve found the team that will. Ownership of the New Orleans Saints, cognizant of the fact that returning to New Orleans will only hinder the recovery of the city, is prepared to take the colossal public relations hit and move away. I don’t know about you, but I have a new favorite team. --Ira Kaplan (via CSTB)

I would be perfectly happy to see benson move his team away and leave the saints name and logo here if i could be assured that someone would bring another team here in a couple years, but as a lifelong saints fan the idea of new orleans without the saints scares me. the devotion of this city to such a continuously disappointing team is a significant point of pride for a lot of new orleans residents, if a fairly masochistic one. just driving around the city you see graffitti everywhere, particularly on abandoned refrigerators on the curbs, cursing benson and demanding that he return the Saints to New Orleans. the last thing new orleans needs right now is to be abandoned by such an important icon in the city. i totally understand that we also dont need any more blows to our already fucked economy. i don't know, maybe it's just a lose/lose situation.

How do you feel about New Orleans without the Jazz?

rogermexico (rogermexico), Saturday, 5 November 2005 22:07 (twenty years ago)

the who?

Fetchboy (Felcher), Saturday, 5 November 2005 22:11 (twenty years ago)

im not really much of a basketball fan, but if you're referring to the Hornets, they've only been in town a few years and the city has nowhere near of an emotional stake in them than it does in the Saints. I mean, the Saints have been around for almost 40 years and we've only had one playoff victory but every year when football season starts to fire up you hear predictions that "this is the year" all over town.

I'm just teasing, though the Utah Jazz have always seemed like a very strange joke. The 'Aints indeed have a long and proud relationship with the community.

My god there is no one less competant than Bidwell, not even on a "nearly as incompetant" level!

on the bright side, i went to that last preseason game in the Superdome and i still have the ticket stub. that could be worth something in the future.

I don't know how to feel about the Saints possibly relocating to San Antonio. On the one hand, I've always wanted an NFL team, but under these less than favorable circumstances, damn. The name and logo change are a must if it happens. My only hope is that Benson sells the team or dies because I don't know how much more of the guy I can take (he owns a series of car dealerships in town).

That Saints owner dude is slim shady...he seems to be handling this whole thing with zero class....it's like Xmas for him, he's probably been waiting for those levees to bust.
