I miss football. :(

horseshoe (horseshoe), Monday, 5 February 2007 20:41 (nineteen years ago)

Me too. Fuck-a-probowl.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Monday, 5 February 2007 20:42 (nineteen years ago)

However, I'm already starting to put together my fantasy draft wishlist.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Monday, 5 February 2007 20:42 (nineteen years ago)

yeah :'( I always take the last month of football for granted, only to be all bummed when it's over.

aidsy (PUNXSUTAWNEY PENIS), Monday, 5 February 2007 20:57 (nineteen years ago)

i start feeling this way BEFORE the super bowl.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 5 February 2007 21:26 (nineteen years ago)

Me too, as soon as the Saints lost.

Tuesdays With Morimoto (Rock Hardy), Monday, 5 February 2007 21:31 (nineteen years ago)

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Monday, 5 February 2007 21:36 (nineteen years ago)

Any other year all of New Orleans would have been freaking the fuck out about hometown boy Peyton and LSU star Addai in the Super Bowl. This year, no one really cared. I went to a sports bar and half-paid attention, I'm pleased the Colts won but right now all I can think is if this was a rebuilding year, what's going to happen next season? 2006 was pretty much hands down my favorite football season ever.

adam (adam), Monday, 5 February 2007 22:26 (nineteen years ago)

Isn't arena ball coming soon?

Why don't you guys talk about baseball in a stat-free way so I can get high-quality photoshop-based humor to go with my Dr. Morbius fix?

polyphonic (polyphonic), Monday, 5 February 2007 22:43 (nineteen years ago)

I'm sure I will watch at least a little bit of the Pro Bowl... It's not over until I decide it is!

Stormy Davis (diamond), Tuesday, 6 February 2007 07:55 (nineteen years ago)

I bought Strat-o-matic PC football to ward off the off season blahs.

lk (lawrence kansas), Tuesday, 6 February 2007 14:05 (nineteen years ago)

i have madden 2007 to keep me company.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Tuesday, 6 February 2007 14:31 (nineteen years ago)

TOMBO7 (TOMBOT), Tuesday, 6 February 2007 15:17 (nineteen years ago)

This WAS the best football season ever, guys. Let's be ok!

Allyzay doesnt get into the monkeys or vindications (allyzay), Tuesday, 6 February 2007 15:56 (nineteen years ago)

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Friday, 9 February 2007 16:56 (nineteen years ago)

guys I'M REALLY DEPRESSED

Allyzay rankin u boobage...!! (allyzay), Friday, 9 February 2007 16:57 (nineteen years ago)

can we all pick arena teams or nfl europe ones or something?

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Friday, 9 February 2007 17:00 (nineteen years ago)

we should perhaps consider this. Arena is kind of lame though.

Allyzay rankin u boobage...!! (allyzay), Friday, 9 February 2007 17:09 (nineteen years ago)

i used to root for the barcelona dragons because having the nickname "the dragons" is so retarded i felt obligated. i have a passing interest in the hamburg sea devils because jack bicknell coaches them.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Friday, 9 February 2007 17:11 (nineteen years ago)

lk, is that strat-O-matic game any good?

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Friday, 9 February 2007 17:15 (nineteen years ago)

Isn't NFL Europe just a bunch of German teams now? ja/nein?

I have been replaying the 1967 season on Strat-o-matic but I need a Manning in my life. IF anyone wants to live dangerous I can POST THE RESULTS of the season on the INTERNET.

Anyway ALLYZAY, how was the sparkling sake? ja/nein?

xpost!!!!

lk (lawrence kansas), Friday, 9 February 2007 17:20 (nineteen years ago)

Stratomatic is, if you're a stats geek, pretty darn entertaining. I like it because all the old seasons are available. You basically just call the plays and watch the triangles and circles move around.

It's not cheap tho.

lk (lawrence kansas), Friday, 9 February 2007 17:23 (nineteen years ago)

the sake is pretty good actually, would buy again.

Allyzay rankin u boobage...!! (allyzay), Friday, 9 February 2007 17:23 (nineteen years ago)

chicago k, the 1964 combination of Babe Parilli to Gino Capelleti is HOTT

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Friday, 9 February 2007 17:37 (nineteen years ago)

everyplace that sells it is blocked for me at work. god damn the effective web filters they use here.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Friday, 9 February 2007 17:45 (nineteen years ago)

whoa, they block stratomatic.com? ;_;

lk (lawrence kansas), Friday, 9 February 2007 17:51 (nineteen years ago)

I have received my 1990 Bills highlights DVD from NFL Films, but it's only an hour long. I don't think it's going to last me till preseason. furthermore, I've been watching NFL Network all the time. and the pro bowl coverage is really boring, but I've been watching it anyway.

xpost: Kevin's job blocks EVERYTHING.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Friday, 9 February 2007 17:52 (nineteen years ago)

actually it's strat-o-matic.com

can you defeat it by going through unipeak.com?

the pro bowl makes even sadder than no football

lk (lawrence kansas), Friday, 9 February 2007 18:02 (nineteen years ago)

So far, the Chargers have lost their offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator, top defensive coordinator prospect (who is now the d coordinator of the 49ers), top offensive coordinator prospect (who is now the o coordinator for the browns).

Also, the head coach and the newly minted o coordinator are both on one year contracts. I am very nervous. :/

polyphonic (polyphonic), Friday, 9 February 2007 18:07 (nineteen years ago)

yeah the Browns got C.H.U.D.zinski who was, I think, the tight ends coach. The Browns are constantly the source of on-the-job training for coaches (Schottenheimer, Belichick etc). I'll give him a pass tho cuz chud actually wanted to be in cleveland which I think is cute.

lk (lawrence kansas), Friday, 9 February 2007 18:23 (nineteen years ago)

I might even resort to Arena fantasy if such a thing exists. I don't like watching it, though, because the field is so tiny. I feel like I'm looking at an NFL diorama.

upside to post-season coaching shenanigans: Wade Phillips' daughter is hotttt. She runs a burlesque show in LA or something.

milo z (mlp), Saturday, 10 February 2007 19:53 (nineteen years ago)

My wife recently got way into football. This was the first season she ever actively watched. When she told me to not make any plans today so we could watch the Pro Bowl together, I felt really sorry for her. I gave her a look, and, trying to conceal my embarrassment for her, had to quote Homer's response to Marge in the "Hank Scorio" episode when she doesn't understand why he's bummed about getting the Denver Broncos as a gift.

I said "Marge, you just don't understand football."

Only I didn't call her Marge, I called her Jessica, you know, because that's her name.

But really - who the fuck watches the pro bowl?? If I wanted to see defensive players act like they're afraid to break a nail, I'd go watch a pickup game of two hand touch at the local girls Catholic high school.

Actually, that sounds pretty alright...where does one buy tickets for something like that?

Great Scott (Roger Fidelity), Saturday, 10 February 2007 22:45 (nineteen years ago)

Can anyone even explain WHY there are no replay challenges or blitzes? Like, are they trying to make this the most unfun thing ever?

Peyton ManBoyLoveAssociation (Roger Fidelity), Saturday, 10 February 2007 23:08 (nineteen years ago)

it's an exhibition.

If I wanted to see defensive players act like they're afraid to break a nail

uhhh.. did you see Sean Taylor DEMOLISH that Bills punter? lol

Stormy Davis (diamond), Sunday, 11 February 2007 01:57 (nineteen years ago)

last night the 1973 dolphins were on, it was okay until the end when they decided to explain all Mercury Morris' depressing life lessons about not having his name read at the 10th anniv. of the undefeated season bcz he was in prison for dealing cocaine right across the street from the stadium, wtf football you are sad.

TOMBOT, Friday, 2 March 2007 15:45 (nineteen years ago)

Guys the schefterblog is totally the solution to all these offseason depression faces

TOMBOT, Friday, 2 March 2007 16:27 (nineteen years ago)

guys we haven't discussed the fact that ladainian's father died!

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Friday, 2 March 2007 16:49 (nineteen years ago)

that will help with the postseason depression

brownie, Friday, 2 March 2007 17:04 (nineteen years ago)

Mercury Morris' depressing life lessons about not having his name read at the 10th anniv. of the undefeated season bcz he was in prison for dealing cocaine

did anyone see the cocaine cowboys documentary? the dude tells of selling to mercury morris and that the steelers offensive line were all on blow the night before they beat the cowboys in the superbowl in miami.

chicago kevin, Friday, 2 March 2007 17:06 (nineteen years ago)

That's the answer right there. Cocaine will beat post season depression- thank you Steel Curtain.

cankles, Saturday, 24 May 2008 03:33 (seventeen years ago)

it makes me shaky-sad in a way i don't fully understand and should maybe get therapy for? i can't see any way around it, though.

i guess it's good that it might help the "buffalo-rochester region," but it's going to finish off the city more quickly than it otherwise would have died.

also, i hate to question mr. sunshine and roses developer that they quote in that article, but it seems kind of crazy to bet that Buffalo fans will just transfer their loyalties to a fucking CANADIAN football team?

horseshoe, Saturday, 24 May 2008 22:42 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, from what i understand this is basically the only shot they have at keeping the bills IN buffalo - the wilson family can't afford to keep the team after ralph dies (something to do with the estate tax?), and the lack of luxury box revenue is one of the major things hurting the team financially rn. so the hope is that attracting toronto fans = attracting canadian corporate sponsors, which would make it a much easier decision to keep the team in buffz.

does ur fam still live in buffalo? do u still have ties there and whatnot?

cankles, Sunday, 25 May 2008 06:36 (seventeen years ago)

i don't think there's any way the team will stay in Buffalo down the line, though. that article suggests that post-2012 the team will move permanently to Toronto, which is what i've been assuming this means.

buffalo is a decimated city; i think a significant proportion of the people filling ralph wilson stadium already are from Toronto and Rochester.

yeah, my mom and dad are still there and my sister just remarked to me the other day that if there were jobs in Buffalo she'd move back in a heartbeat. it's a little surreal to face the death of the place you grew up. i'd imagine people who grew up in detroit or baltimore or gary, indiana but were lucky enough to have the mobility to leave feel similarly.

this post might not make sense because i'm drunk!

horseshoe, Sunday, 25 May 2008 08:08 (seventeen years ago)

If I was the Bills, I'd hope for the big player. If you remember in the days before Favre, the Packers were splitting some home games between Green Bay and Milwaukee. I also have no doubt that the Colts would now be in Los Angeles if they had not gotten Peyton Manning.

earlnash, Tuesday, 27 May 2008 00:54 (seventeen years ago)

i'd hope the owner can be convinced to sell. the pats were gone to st. louis when former season tickets holder bob kraft leveraged his business, personal wealth, and family's future on the red-headed step child of boston's professional sports teams.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 19:46 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, for a while my sister and i were trying to brainstorm coalitions of rich Buffalonians to take the Bills off of Ralph Wilson's hands, but i think all the rich Buffalonians might have fled?

horseshoe, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 19:58 (seventeen years ago)

"...when former season tickets holder bob kraft leveraged his business, personal wealth, and family's future on the red-headed step child of boston's professional sports teams"

Let's not give him the Nobel Prize on this issue, CK. The whole reason he got that new stadium built was his shameless flirtation with Hartford, who had already been stung by the loss of the Whalers. (Don't laugh, they still mourn the loss of the whale)

Bill Magill, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 20:35 (seventeen years ago)

who's giving him the nobel prize? but don't forget when he bought the team they were perennial losers. they were a distant fourth behind the red sox, bruins, and celtics. and during the flutie years bc was was a bigger draw than the pats.

and one other important note regarding this: The whole reason he got that new stadium built HE paid for the stadium to be built. no taxpayer money went into razor blade field. the two main stumbling blocks were the town of foxboro not wanting to approve the construction and the state not wanting to do anything to the two lane road outside the stadium. i don't know if you ever went to the old schaefer/sullivan/foxboro stadium but it was obsolete almost from the time it opened and the town HAD to approve construction. the state did eventually improve route 1 which they should have done in the early 80s anyway.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 21:11 (seventeen years ago)

but anyway, the fact remains, james busch orthwein had a deal in place to move the pats to st. louis until bob kraft overpaid to keep the team local. that won't win him a "nobel prize" but it did ingratiate him to sports fans in new england.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 21:13 (seventeen years ago)

damn, the Bills leaving Buffalo would suck! I was surprised to learn that they don't sellout every home game. Hey just like the Jaguars.

Their minor league baseball team will be done as the Indians affiliate after Columbus builds a new stadium :( Bison stadium is pretty sweet- time to move the Devil Rays.

brownie, Thursday, 29 May 2008 00:31 (seventeen years ago)

Did Orthwein own the team when Rod Rust was the coach? god did they suck back then

Giants got their rings last night. I'm sure youre happy for them, CK.

i don't bedgrudge them, they won, congratulations. i wish the pats won obviously but it's not like i hate the giants because of it.

i don't think orthwein owned the team when rust was the coach, i think he was the product of victor kiam. i believe former syracuse coach dick "there's no fear in (or fearing, depending who you ask)" macpherson was orthwein's coach. to this day you can not convince my dad that machpherson wasn't brought in to tank the squad because it would be easier to move a perennial loser. it was like having coach from cheers as a head coach.

chicago kevin, Friday, 30 May 2008 20:06 (seventeen years ago)

I went to college in NH during the Mc Pherson era. All my buddies from Boston were Cowboys, Steelers or Giants fans. Nobody liked the Pats.

"When a Detroit reporter suggested to Lions COO Tom Lewand that the e-mail incident was an example of the franchise’s general lack of quality, Lewand provided a typically mature, rational Lions response. “If you write that, it will be factually incorrect and bordering on slander. And I will come after you.” "

The Lions are still in the NFL?

Bill Magill, Friday, 30 May 2008 21:07 (seventeen years ago)

where in cow hampshire did you go to school? i grew up on the border, just across the line from Salem, NH. i paid money to sit on the aluminum bleachers at sullivan stadium and watch the tommy hodsons, marc wilsons, and hugh millens qb the pats.
